Abdul Karim Kamara is making a difference! And we're not just talking minor differences. He is the tireless community driver in Sierra Leone, where he is improving the lives of people with bicycles. He delivers learn-to-ride classes for girls who otherwise wouldn't know  how to ride, because of cultural perceptions about women on bicycles.  He’s the country manager for Village Bicycle Project in Sierra Leone, distributing donated bikes to kids who live far from a school and would otherwise walk 3 hours there and 3 hours back, missing half the school day in the process. He is running the biggest cycling team in the country. And he is organising Tour de Lunsar - the biggest race in West Africa. Nothing can stop Karim and if you think it can be difficult to get things organised, you probably haven't even been up against what Karim has been to make all this happen!Read more, get involved and donate to Village Bicycle Project today: https://www.villagebicycleproject.org/get-involved/donate/Support Lunsar Cycling Team: https://www.lunsarcycling.com/new-folderFollow Abdul Karim Kamara on Instagram (@stylishmankarim)Follow Lunsar Cycling Team on Instagram (@lunsarcycling)Get in touch with your host, Hans Flensted-Jensen, on Instagram (@hans.flensted), Twitter (@hansflensted) or via e-mail: hello@hansflensted.cc.This podcast is proudly part of the Oslo Dawn Patrol community: @OsloDawnPatrol

Was he doped or not? Well... he was. One of the most dramatic events in the history of Tour de France, was when Michael Rasmussen was pulled out of the race by his own team (Rabobank) in 2007 after he had just won the queen stage, was in yellow and the path to the overall victory was clear! Hear Michael tell about why it then took six years to come clean. Not just clean, but breaking any code of silence (omerta) that might exist in the professional peloton. Today he is a full time teacher at a Danish boarding school, where he - among other subjects - is coaching 15-16 year olds in mountain biking. He tells us the story about his career, the exit and the work he is doing today to make a difference for young people.Follow Michael on Twitter (@MRasmussen1974) and Instagram (@michaelrasmussen1974).Read more about the mountain bike line at Hald Ege Efterskole, where Michael is teaching today: https://www.hald-ege-efterskole.dk/linjer/mountainbike.Get in touch with your host, Hans Flensted-Jensen, on Instagram (@hans.flensted), Twitter (@hansflensted) or via e-mail: hello@hansflensted.cc.This podcast is proudly part of the Oslo Dawn Patrol community: @OsloDawnPatrol
In cycling the men's races are (almost) always  being prioritized over the women's race. Why is that? Two of the Norwegian pro-riders -  Line Marie Gulliksen and Emilie Moberg - are now openly speaking up against the cycling federation and race organizers in Norway (and abroad).  And things are moving in the right direction, but there's still a long way to go and it's taking too long. Listen to Line and Emilie tell about their own experience and what they've been doing and how things are developing. And in case you didn't know: women's races are generally much more worth watching. The War on Cars!

The War on Cars!

2021-01-2630:51

Meet Doug Gourdon who is hosting The War on Cars podcast. Why does the car have such a dominant position in our society? Are we in a war? Doug is a safe street advocate in New York and talks about why we are so dependent on the car - especially in the US - and what we should do about it. Cars divide communities, makes lives more difficult for low income families and are even being used as weapons - not just for terrorist attacks but just as much for everyday road rage. But equally so the bicycle has proven very effective as a tool for protest, which has most recently been seen with Black Lives Matter protests in the US.Learn more about The War on Cars podcast on their website: https://thewaroncars.org/. Cycling infrastructure is a hot topic in many cities around the world these days. But why should city councils spend their money on getting more people out on the bike?
