Ryan grew up in western Wi and is from a family of cops on his mother’s side, farmers, trades people and laborers on his fathers side. Ryan initially followed in his father’s footsteps in the trades as an electrician, but while working on new home construction of sever police officers, he did some ride a longs and was hooked. Ryan worked as an electrician at night so he could attend Wisconsin’s Police Recruit academy during the day to become a licensed peace officer in WI. In the late fall of 2005 Ryan graduated and was hired as a Deputy at a small rural Sheriff’s Office in Western WI where his grandfather and uncle had spent their entire careers, although Ryan’s career would only be 11 short years. During his career Ryan worked in Corrections at the County Jail, eventually taking a promotion to patrol, and then worked as a dual certified K9 handler doing narcotics detection and criminal apprehension receiving his K9 training and certifications through St Paul MN PD’s elite K9 training program, one of the best in the world.Wisconsin has unique and unhealthy relationship with alcohol. Ryan came into law enforcement already addicted to alcohol but was consuming what was considered acceptable by his local standards. During his career Ryan found easy access to other prescription medications through his doctor while trying to cope with PTS and pain management. The combination alcoholism and endless pills would eventually lead to his downfall in October of 2016 in very public and embarrassing way.Ryan got sober, but struggled with his mental health until he eventually took a giant leap of faith and tried a psychedelic healing retreat through a non-profit called The Siren Project, who specializes in sending first responders to Mexico where they can legally partake in “sacred medicine” ceremonies. It was there that Ryan finally found relief from his demons and his healing journey began.Find Ryan FowlerWebsiteInstagramThe Siren ProjectFind The Suffering PodcastThe Suffering Podcast InstagramKevin Donaldson InstagramMike Failace InstagramBuzzsproutApple PodcastSpotifyFacebookTikTokYouTubeThe Suffering Podcast FamilySherri AllsupToyota of HackensackPoPl Discount code TSP20The Oakley KitchenSupport the showThe Suffering Podcast Instagram Kevin Donaldson Instagram TikTok YouTube

Sherrie Allsup is an international speaker, educator, and subject matter expert with lived experience. She speaks on topics such as sexual assault, sexual abuse, trauma, and suicide. Sherrie is a survivor of long-term sexual abuse, trauma, and suicide attempts. After much hard work and healing she became the founder and CEO of Courage Starts With You. For victims, Courage means telling someone and reaching out for help. For law enforcement, Courage means looking beyond the traditional victim interview technique to recognize how and why victims of assault may act differently than victims of crimes.  She purchased a cemetery plot, purchased the outfit she wanted to be buried in, and made the decision that morning was going to be the day Sherrie Allsup no longer lived to endure the pain she lived daily throughout her life. Yet, those were not the cards that she was dealt. That was the moment that she began to take her power back. Sherrie Allsup’s journey took a profound turn when faced with the contemplation of ending her life, she instead chose to reclaim her power. She now travels and shares her story to shine a light on the lifelong challenges that sexual abuse and trauma leave behind. Her pieces of training are centered around shining a light on the dark epidemic of sexual abuse and assault. She is also a member of RAINN (Rape, Abuse, Incest, and Neglect Network). She says, “Trauma victims almost live plan to plan or we wouldn’t survive.” Embracing Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) psychotherapy, Sherrie embarked on a new chapter. In her own words, “This sentiment encapsulates her life, where she navigated each moment with a flickering flashlight, battling the pain that haunted her daily. Determined to break free from the past, she decided that the grip of her father’s years of abuse is not going to define her”.Find SherrieWebsiteFacebookLinkedinFind The Suffering PodcastThe Suffering Podcast InstagramKevin Donaldson InstagramMike Failace InstagramBuzzsproutApple PodcastSpotifyFacebookTikTokYouTubeThe Suffering Podcast FamilyToyota of HackensackPoPl Discount code TSP20The Oakley KitchenCubita CafeSupport the showThe Suffering Podcast Instagram Kevin Donaldson Instagram TikTok YouTube

George T. Drost, a distinguished attorney and curator of art, has a life story that mirrors the resilience and triumph of the human spirit. Born in former Czechoslovakia during one of the darkest periods in history, George's early years were marred by the harsh realities of World War II. His parents were compelled to divorce, and his father faced the brutal fate of being forced into a work camp under the Gestapo. In a heartbreaking decision to protect their family, George's parents chose to leave him in the Czech and sought refuge for his brother in Austria to escape the clutches of the Gestapo. It was not until George turned four that the family was joyfully reunited in Austria. The journey to the United States followed a time when anti-European sentiments were prevalent. In the face of adversity, George was instilled with the importance of assimilation, a lesson that would shape his future. Assimilate at all costs.Despite the distance from his homeland, George never forgot his roots. His connection to Czech heritage became even more evident when he assumed the role of honorary consulate to The Czech Republic. This position allowed him to bridge the gap between his adopted home and the land of his birth.Realizing the significance of the narrative, George enlisted the help of Nicki Pascarella to bring his father's story to life in a modern context. The collaboration resulted in "THE QUIET HERO," a best-selling book that not only chronicles the personal struggles of George's family but serves as a testament to the resilience of the human spirit in the face of adversity. Through his legal career, diplomatic role, and curatorship, George T. Drost has become a living example of turning personal history into a source of inspiration for generations to come. The Quiet HeroWebsiteOrder HereFind The Suffering PodcastThe Suffering Podcast InstagramKevin Donaldson InstagramMike Failace InstagramBuzzsproutApple PodcastSpotifyFacebookTikTokYouTubeThe Suffering Podcast FamilyToyota of HackensackPoPl Discount code TSP20The Oakley KitchenCubita CafeSupport the showThe Suffering Podcast Instagram Kevin Donaldson Instagram TikTok YouTube
Michael Martyn can be summed up in a handful of words. He is a father, a husband, a veteran, a brother to 5, and a former foster child. While these words may be accurate, they give no justice to the many difficult situations and circumstances that Mike had faced throughout his life. At four years old, Mike lost his father to a car accident and continued living with his mother, who by most accounts, wasn’t the tender, caring, loving mother that most moms are. Mike suffered abuse after abuse at the hands of his mother, and multiple stepfathers and boyfriends of his mother. He watched and did his best to defend and protect his 5 younger siblings. Mike had been placed in institutions over a dozen times. He stayed at shelters, group homes, foster homes, couch surfed, and slept on park benches. Mike is now 38 years old and with the help of his last foster father, managed to graduate high school and enter the workforce. Mike successfully completed multiple professional clown training programs where he learned the skills to work as a birthday party clown and found the time to visit sick children at hospitals and was praised by the staff and family as a delight, and a wonderful change for the families and children facing the end of their life. Mike is a graduate of EMT school where he took that training to Lodi, NJ as a volunteer and paid EMT. At the age of 20, Mike joined the NJ Army National Guard. While in the Army, in the summer of 2008, Mike deployed to Camp Bucca Iraq where he served with pride alongside some of the most incredible men and women the United States Army has ever seen. Mike completed his term in the NJ Army Nation Guard in 2012 with the rank of Sergeant. This would prove to be one of the proudest accomplishments according to Mike, but not the most helpful. Mike began attending counseling sessions at the VA hospital in East Orange where he received a diagnosis for PTSD. Mike began a new chapter in his life in 2014 when he met his current wife, Katie. (some apparently call her Lauren (yes they do Mike)) Mike and Katie share 3 beautiful children together, Nora, Hope, and Mikey. Mike now spends his free time with his children.Find The Suffering PodcastThe Suffering Podcast InstagramKevin Donaldson InstagramMike Failace InstagramBuzzsproutApple PodcastSpotifyFacebookTikTokYouTubeThe Suffering Podcast FamilyToyota of HackensackPoPl Discount code TSP20The Oakley KitchenBella Dama CigarsSupport the showThe Suffering Podcast Instagram Kevin Donaldson Instagram TikTok YouTube

Nancy Nugent (no, she’s not related to Ted), was born and raised in Northern NJ and still finds herself here despite the many, many thoughts she’s had about living out of state. She’s found it’s truly hard to give up the Jersey card, but she did at least move to a different county when she left home. Growing up, the only law enforcement knowledge Nancy had was because of her grandfather, who had retired as a police sergeant long before she was born. Nancy had absolutely no intention, desires, or even thoughts about getting into anything related to law enforcement, public service, etc. but many years ago in college, when picking the mandatory elective courses, Nancy chose what she figured to be the least sleep inducing class, Intro to Criminal Justice. As a result of that one class, Nancy ended up adding a Criminal Justice major to her Communications degree and, after realizing going the actual police officer route wasn’t a desire, has now had a career path which started in police dispatch, detoured to fraud and federal background investigations, and then came back to dispatch, where she has spent the last 9 years in two departments growing from dispatch trainee to her current title of supervisory dispatcher. She has heard things ranging from super sweet to absolutely heartbreaking, has acted as an unintentional therapist, and has been screamed at and called every name in the book by complete strangers, all while keeping track of various rules, regulations, people, their personalities, and their preferences. When not at work, Nancy gets out of dispatch mode the best she can and tries to spend time with her significant other, friends, and family, but mostly gets ordered around by a 12 year old, 30 pound pit bull mix named Trooper (who is absolutely NOT named after the state police). She’s found exploring various hiking trails and other outdoor spots to be the best mind clearing activity ever. Nancy also lives to be the fun aunt to her two most awesome nephews. Find Nancy NugentInstagramFind The Suffering PodcastThe Suffering Podcast InstagramKevin Donaldson InstagramMike Failace InstagramBuzzsproutApple PodcastSpotifyFacebookTikTokYouTubeThe Suffering Podcast FamilyToyota of HackensackSupport the showThe Suffering Podcast Instagram Kevin Donaldson Instagram TikTok YouTube
For Three full years Kevin Donaldson and Mike Failace have explored tales of extreme Suffering and overcoming of adversity from either survivors, loved ones, or the professionals that care for those in need.  The Suffering Podcast has built a mission around assisting those in need to assist in overcoming of trauma and pain by highlighting individuals or topics that may give better coping skills or tools to succeed.  Don’t be mistaken to think that hearing all the stories don’t come without a price.  Either the suffering brought on by the production of the show or the stories behind the subject, Kevin and Mike need moments to step back and reflect on their journey in shows like this.Find Kevin P. Multiple concussive blasts, while overseas in the army coupled with on the job injuries as a police officer have left Mike with a diagnosed traumatic brain injury. Bobby has served honorably as a Sergeant in the North Arlington Police department and will finish his career with distinction this year.   His deep love of sports rose out of I growing up on the playground, spending most of his entire youth playing some sport every day continuing into adulthood.  A man whom we admire, Bobby has one of the most warped senses of humor and quickest of wits.  Strap in for a wild ride when Bobby comes to town.Find Bobby CrudeleWebsiteInstagramFacebookTwitterFind The Suffering PodcastThe Suffering Podcast InstagramKevin Donaldson InstagramMike Failace InstagramBuzzsproutApple PodcastSpotifyFacebookTikTokYouTubeThe Suffering Podcast FamilyDented Development ProjectToyota of HackensackBetterHelp Discount Code SufferingBella Dama CigarsSupport the showThe Suffering Podcast Instagram Kevin Donaldson Instagram TikTok YouTube
