Hurricane Katrina caused $125 billion in damages; equivalent to $175 billion today.  There were roughly 50 levee and flood wall failures that were designed to protect the Crescent City from floodwaters. It was reported that tens of billions of gallons of water spilled into the homes and businesses around New Orleans. Some neighborhoods were met with water measuring over 10 feet. But regardless of how much water inundated an area, the city also experienced another kind of damage - one that, much like the floodwaters, would leave its mark for generations to come, referred to by Lissa Muscatine as “blue on black justice.”  Tony's website: http://tony-barthelemy.last-memories.com/lifestoryTo listen to Floodlines: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/floodlines/id1501433969

Corey Williams was murdered in his home November 14, 2020. His family, frustrated with how his small-town police department carried out the initial investigation, has continued to fight for justice. The disabled community experiences violence at 3x the rate of able-bodied individuals. Corey was unfortunately apart of that statistic. If you have any information about the murder of Corey Williams, please call the Simmesport Police Department at (318) 941-2576. Corey's life mattered.

This is the another case from central Louisiana that is considered unsolved but everyone in this small-town believes they know exactly who’s to blame. I want to reiterate that no one has been indicted on charges directly related to Ray's murder. Everyone mentioned in this episode is innocent until proven guilty.
With Mardi Gras being on Tuesday (February 16th) I wanted to bring you a story, or three, straight from the French Quarter.
