The current economic environment has many people worried. Interest rates are up, the stock market is volatile, bitcoin has lost tremendous value, and inflation seems to keep growing. So on today’s episode, we want to sit down and discuss the economy and the future trends we should expect to see with two economic experts, Mike Jacobson and Marc Werkmeister. Mike is the CEO of NerbaskaLand Bank and the Senator for District 42 and Marc is a Certified Financial Planner with PFA. Inflation is when too much money is chasing too few goods and services. Looking at where we were with supply chain issues and the influx of money into the economy with stimulus checks, inflation was bound to happen. To combat inflation, the Federal Reserve raises interest rates, promoting people to stop buying and start borrowing. We are seeing this impact the housing market already with higher-interest loans.  By a strict definition, we are not technically in a recession yet. However, we are experiencing some signs of an upcoming recession. Whether we will end up in a full-blown recession isn’t known yet. We’ll explore some scenarios and what you should be doing to protect your wallet. Join us today as we get into these topics: ·       What causes inflation and what can be done to fix it? ·       Why stocks and bonds are both experiencing volatility. ·       What we should be doing to protect our financial plans ·       How the housing market is responding to the economyTimestamps:0:37 – Sorry to keep you waiting! 1:14 – We love Nebraska Day2:56 – Welcome to our guests3:28 – What is the overlook on the economy? 9:44 – Getting back to ordinary 12:58 – Are we in a recession?15:00 – How would you protect your 401(k)?18:38 – Bond-ladder investing and CD letters19:40 – What is your advice to a hopeful homebuyer? 21:44 – What are we looking at with home lending? 25:59 – Making compromises with homes 27:31 – Figuring out what your long-term and short-term goals are 29:35 – What are some of the positives? 32:59 – Trivia: Current Events!Follow us on Social:Facebook: facebook.com/NebraskaLandBankPodcastYouTube: youtube.com/NebraskaLandBankInstagram: instagram.com/NebraskaLandBankThis episode is brought to you by NebraskaLand Bank. A new community space may be on the horizon! On today’s episode, Megan McGown and Leland Poppe, co-chairs of the Wellness and Recreation Alliance join us to discuss the new recreation center project. This project has been in the works for over 20 years and their vision for the new recreation center is coming straight from the community: a larger building, a walking track, a larger swimming pool, and much more. The current multi-use gym will stay but they hope to adjust the swimming pool, with an added addition above for a figure 8 track on the second floor. They are also aware of the sentimental value of the current building, including its dome feature. In creating the new recreation center, they hope to incorporate the natural light and some similar features in the new building and its additions. The Wellness and Recreation Alliance hopes we’ll see funding for the new recreation improvements on our November ballots. In the meantime, you can get involved in this project when the mayor calls a work session in July. The city council will discuss ideas and implementations for this project and then they will decide whether it goes to the ballots in November. If you’re excited about this project, now is the time to contact your city council representatives and let them know you want to see this project on your ballots!Join us today as we get into these topics: ·       How the Alliance is implementing public opinion into the new recreation center ·       Proposed sales tax increase to pay for the improvements·       What happens if the initiative doesn’t pass in November? ·       Updates on banking apps and more banking informationLearn more about the project and keep up with updates here: https://www.facebook.com/NPParksRecWellness Timestamps:0:47 – It’s a busy time of the year! 2:10 - Welcome Megan and Leland 3:08 – What’s the vision for the rec center?6:06 – A part of a growing North Platte 7:44 – Displacing skate park 8:55 – Upgrading the facility now 10:20 – How much of the current building will still?11:24 – Elevation in the figure 8 track 12:05 – Incorporating the dome in the new building13:10 – What are the next steps?14:33 – Voting for funding in November 15:33 – Start getting involved! 16:10 – Watch the city council meeting 17:51 – How we manage the facility 19:52 – Donations compared to YMCA 22:02 – Why did you pick this size?24:21 – What happens if it doesn’t pass?26:12 – What does the ½ cent sales increase mean?28:10 – Changes in our bank app 31:57 – This is a community effort 33:52 – It’s time for something different  35:32 – Trivia: Baseball trivia! Follow us on Social:Facebook: facebook.com/NebraskaLandBankPodcastYouTube: youtube.com/NebraskaLandBankInstagram: For more, visit us online: https://nebraskalandbank.com/podcastIf you enjoyed the episode, please rate, review & subscribe!Follow us on Social:Facebook: facebook.com/NebraskaLandBankPodcastYouTube: youtube.com/NebraskaLandBankInstagram: instagram.com/NebraskaLandBankThis episode is brought to you by NebraskaLand Bank. Do you watch Grey’s Anatomy? While the real-life medical world probably isn’t so dramatic, there are things about our own medical system we should stay in tune with. The pandemic has been especially difficult for hospitals, but Great Plains Health was able to become a leader in the state when it came to addressing COVID-19. He is excited about many new projects he sees on the horizon.
