The Net Zero Technology Centre’s Hydrogen Backbone Link project explores the critical hydrogen transport infrastructure which has the potential to unlock Scotland’s hydrogen economy by providing 10% of Europe’s projected hydrogen demand by the mid-2030s and support 300,000 green jobs by 2045. In this episode, NZTC’s Head of Marketing and Communications Katie Begg interviews Innovation Manager Jason Paterson, as they explore everything from the infrastructure and routing required, the investment needed for a new pipeline, to the benefits and opportunities Scotland would gain as a hydrogen exporter, and what phase two of the project is going to look like
Shared data platforms will be crucial in improving efficiency, innovation and ultimately, in accelerating the energy transition. Our latest Transition Talks episode explores two key projects that are making significant advancements in this area: NZTC’s Offshore Energy Data Architecture (OEDA), and the Open Surface Data Universe (OSDU).   Together Blair O’Connor, Project Manager at NZTC, Stephen Roebuck, Co-Founder at InDHu, Silas O’Dea, Partner at Baringa Partners and Tim Hunter-Rowe, Head of Knowledge & Data Stores at bp, discuss the projects’ shared challenges and opportunities, and the future of facilitating and enabling data sharing across the sector.
In our latest episode of Transition Talks, we’re joined by Sian Lloyd Rees, UK MD for Mainstream Offshore and Aker Horizon. Sian provides us with insights on how industry can enable the oil and gas supply chain to transition, the ins and outs of working with government as well as her own experience with diversity and inclusion within the energy sector.
During Offshore Europe 2023, NZTC’s Stephen Sheal caught up with a range of industry experts to discuss all things tech and energy transition.
In the latest episode of Transition Talks Stephen Sheal is joined by David Whitehouse, Chief Executive Officer at OEUK. David provides an insightful look into his views on the polarising debate surrounding the role of oil and gas within the energy transition, why we should be speeding up the pace and provides a deep dive into the North Sea Transition Deal.
Stephen Flynn, SNP’s Westminster Leader, joins Stephen Sheal to look at  the impact the energy sector has on Aberdeen and the wider Northeast area, the future role of the North Sea, the importance of government support for industry and the realities of achieving a just transition within Scotland.
In the latest episode of our podcast, Stephen Sheal is joined by former NZTC CEO Colette Cohen OBE. Reflecting on her journey with the Centre, from humble beginnings to a leading technology development and innovation facility, Colette discusses the highlights of her time as CEO, the establishment of the acclaimed TechX Start-up Accelerator and the pivotal need to prioritise diversity and inclusion initiatives.
In the latest episode of our podcast, we dive deep into the world of Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) with field expert Suzanne Ferguson, Carbon Capture Technical Lead at Wood. Join us as Suzanne explains the fundamentals of CCS technologies and their applications across various industries. We discuss how carbon capture technology has progressed in the last few years and the game-changing impact it could have on the future of the energy industry.
In the latest episode of our Transition Talks podcast, we are joined by Liam Kerr, MSP for North East Scotland and Shadow Cabinet Secretary for Net Zero, Energy and Transport, to discuss the findings of the Net Zero, Energy and Transport Committee’s report on the role of local government and its partners in financing and delivering a net-zero Scotland. Liam delves into the main barriers hindering local net zero delivery progress and points out effective solutions. He emphasises the need for best practices and knowledge sharing across local authorities and the imperative for cross-party collaboration in addressing the climate emergency.
This episode of TransitionTalks features Marc Fontaine, founder and CEO of InDHu, and Stephen Ashley, former Head of Offshore Energy 4.0 at NZTC. Together we discuss the Offshore Energy Digital Architecture (OEDA) project, which will enable controlled sharing and analysis of data across the offshore energy sector.    As a Chief Digital Officer at Airbus, Marc was responsible for the company’s digital transformation. He created and implemented Skywise, the first and most advanced to date industrial data sharing platform bringing together 140 aerospace companies. Marc shares with us his wealth of experience and lessons learned while leading digital transformation in the aviation industry. We also explore the coming impact of artificial intelligence tools in the industry.
In our latest TransitionTalks podcast episode, we’re joined by Shiladitya Ghosh, PhD, Co-founder of Mission Zero Technologies, a start-up which graduated from the TechX Clean Energy Accelerator.  Driving the fight against climate change, the company is developing innovative direct air capture (DAC) technology. Shil takes us through his start-up journey and shares his experiences and insights on what it takes to develop a game-changing technology. We dive into the potential impact of DAC technology, exploring its current stage of development, energy requirements, and challenges for scaling up.
In this episode we are joined by Elva Bannon, Research and Engineering Manager at Wave Energy Scotland, to discuss the potential of harnessing the power of waves to generate energy. We will hear about the current state of technology development and explore the key challenges faced by the industry.
In this episode of Transition Talks, Andy Samuel PhD CBE reflects on his eight-year tenure as the North Sea Transition Authority’s Chief Executive.  Tune in as we discuss how the energy landscape has changed in recent years, the regulator’s evolving role in the energy transition, and the vision for an integrated energy basin that could make a significant contribution toward the net zero targets through a mix of emissions-reducing technologies.
In this episode, we talk to Professor John Underhill, Interdisciplinary Director for Energy Transition at the University of Aberdeen (UoA), about how universities’ expertise and resources can help industry and policymakers take informed decisions concerning our energy future. John shares his aspirations for the UoA’s Centre for Energy Transition and discusses how higher education institutions and research organisations can help maximise the benefits of the energy transition for the community and the region.
