Description

Hello Friends! We are Ashley & Josh. Just two parents raising a little weirdo, out here just doing our dang best. We created this podcast as a way to be that "village" that everyone talks about. We are by no means experts, and we don't have much advice. Our goal is to create a judgement free community that understands that kids are weird, and parenting is hard. We offer a raw view of Parenthood, and not gonna lie, we're funny af. We hope to make you laugh along with us, cry along with us, and make you feel like you're not alone in this crazy roller coaster ride called parenting.

A lighter episode topics after a few heavier episodes. Every trip to Disney comes with crazy stories to tell and our latest trip was no exception. Laugh and maybe cry along with us as Ashley retells all about the shenanigans she faced going to Disney without Josh.Stay Sane Out There.www.kidsareweirdpodcast.com
We've talked a lot about maternal mental health on this podcast. But for the first time ever, we're talking about paternal mental health. A topic that is vastly overlooked. Join us for Josh's first time taking the lead as we have an open and honest conversation about Father's and their mental health. Stay Sane Out There.www.kidsareweirdpodcast.com
A heavier episode topic for us this week, but unfortunately something we just went through. In this week's episode we tackle (IMO) the hardest part of parenting- parenting through really tragic & traumatic shit. Stay Sane Out There.www.kidsareweirdpodcast.com

Burnout is Weird

Burnout is Weird

2021-11-1530:06

As caregivers, we're no strangers to burnout. It's estimated that over 90% of Moms feel burned out. On top of all we do all day every day, and now throw in trying to navigate a global pandemic, it's no wonder that this is where we are right now. All we know is, we need to do better for Moms. Stop telling Moms that they're superheros who can do it all, and start taking things off their plate and showing up to help them. Join us as we talk about burn out!Stay Sane Out There.www.kidsareweirdpodcast.com
Decision fatigue is when the mind becomes fatigued after a sustained period of decision making. Making decisions is a cognitively taxing process, and decision making ability declines after long sequences of decisions. After making approximately 45782478234782 decisions before it's even noon most days, it's no wonder that we completely lose our s*** when our sweet and innocent husbands ask us "What show do you want to watch tonight?" I never knew what decision fatigue was, until I became responsible for keeping another human being alive. Join us as we break down what decision fatigue is, how it affects us and how to prevent it. JK we have no freaking clue how to prevent it but at least you can cry right along with us. Stay Sane Out There.www.kidsareweirdpodcast.com
Kids Shows are Weird

Kids Shows are Weird

2021-11-0139:32

We've done kids music, and now we're doing kids shows! Take a stroll down memory lane with us as we reminisce about the shows we grew up with as kids versus the shows our kids force us to watch now.  If there's one thing we can all agree on, it's that there's definitely TOO MUCH TV out there now. From Daniel Tiger conspiracy theories, to Becca punching herself in the face from getting too into singing the "Rocket Power" theme song--this episode has it all! So join us as we dive into this very large and often overwhelming world of kids TV! And tell us, what is your favorite kids show and why is it Bluey? Stay Sane Out There.www.kidsareweirdpodcast.com
Halloween is Weird

Halloween is Weird

2021-10-2537:37

With Halloween less than a week away, we figured we should talk about it! The entire holiday of Halloween itself is extremely weird when you stop to think about it. We literally spend an enormous amount of time teaching our children to never take candy from strangers, only to dress them up and force them to go door to door to literally take candy from strangers??!?!?!???? Is Halloween the weirdest holiday of them all? Join us as we talk all things Halloween!Stay Sane Out There.www.kidsareweirdpodcast.com
Bath Time is Weird

Bath Time is Weird

2021-10-1831:37

Over the summer, there was a lot of controversy about celebs and how frequently (or rather infrequently) they bathe their children. It sparked a lot of debate in the parenting community about how often you should bathe your children. So naturally, we had to throw our two sense in the ring as well! And of course, there's a story or two about one of our children popping in the bath tub, because of course there is. Stay Sane Out There.www.kidsareweirdpodcast.com

Identity is Weird

Identity is Weird

2021-10-0442:38

The huge internal struggle to find your identity once you've had a kid, is a big one. You go from being pregnant with absolutely everyone doting on you, not letting you pick up so much as a plastic trash bag, to having the baby and basically no one giving a s*** about you. Or at least it feels that way. It's so easy to lose yourself in Motherhood, and people don't make that any easier on you. Ever walk into a room and have absolutely everyone say hi to your kid and not a single person says hi to you? I have. Let's talk about identity. Stay Sane Out There.www.kidsareweirdpodcast.com
The concept of sharing is something that strikes us as an unexpectedly difficult thing to navigate. Half of our play dates are trying to teach our kids to "take turns" which is actually not how the world works. Like, some things I'm cool with my daughter not sharing. I can also empathize with how difficult it must be to have another kids come into your space and want to touch and play with all your sh**. But, society tells us kids must share. And, we're really just trying not to raise selfish a**holes. But like part of me is like, I feel bad forcing you to give up the toy your so lovingly playing with for another kid? SO WEIRD. Listen to us vent about our trials and tribulations when it comes to teaching our kids how to share!Stay Sane Out There.www.kidsareweirdpodcast.com
*DISCLAIMER* We experienced some v minor technical issues for a few minutes in the beginning of this episode. Ashley's mic switched off and we had no idea until we were done recording. To save the integrity of the episode, we decided to leave it in, versus trying to re-record and have it be disingenuous. Anyways! Steve Burns  (the original host of Blue's Clues) made his grand re-entrance into our lives last week and we have some FEELINGS about it that NEED to be discussed. If you're a geriatric millennial like we are, this episode is for you! Or, if you're just a human who appreciates one-of-a-kind humor, it's also for you. Basically, if you're a human who loves podcasts, this episode is for you!Stay Sane Out There.www.kidsareweirdpodcast.com
Neighbors are Weird

Neighbors are Weird

Neighbors. We've all got 'em in some way, shape or form. Some are certainly weirder than others. Has anyone else ever been CONVINCED that their next door neighbor was a serial killer? No? Just me? Cool cool cool cool cool. Join this very fun and rather outrageous episode as we talk about all the v weird neighbors we've had over the years! Stay Sane Out There.www.kidsareweirdpodcast.com
Part 2 of our latest mini series about expectations! This week, we're diving into the expectations society places on Mothers & parents. From needing to "bounce back" after having a baby, to being that "Pinterest Mom" there's a lot to unpack here. Join us as we break down these expectations and how it's no wonder that Moms out there feel like they're failing. Stay Sane Out There.www.kidsareweirdpodcast.com
Expectations are Weird

Expectations are Weird

2021-08-3044:45

When it comes to expectations, the only advice we can give is: go ahead and chuck those right out the window. Kids have a funny way of truly humbling you when it comes to how you think a situation will go. And while it's not their job to adhere to our standards, it still really f***ing sucks when things don't quite go the way you had hoped they would. Come listen in as we talk about how weird expectations are!Stay Sane Out There.www.kidsareweirdpodcast.com
Mom Rage is Weird

Mom Rage is Weird

2021-08-2337:11

One thing neither of us were prepared for is the absolute rage that seems to go hand in hand with Motherhood. And it's never rage about anything that makes any sense. For example, I flew off the handle when my husband asked me about buying Hawaiian rolls once. Or just being full of rage at the rate at which he breathes, or enters a room. Take a dive into the very, very weird world of "Mom Rage" with us. Stay Sane Out There.www.kidsareweirdpodcast.com
Kids Music is Weird

Kids Music is Weird

2021-08-1640:09

Where do we even begin when it comes to kids music? Is it a requirement of whoever writes kids songs that they must drive parents to the absolute brink of insanity? And don't even get us started on Kidz Bop trying to cover today's songs by Cardi B and Lizzo. Lucky for you, we read and listen to some of these "hits" live on the episode so you don't have to. If you need a good laugh, and even a teeny tiny history lesson on the f***ed up history of some of our most beloved nursery rhymes, then this episode is for you, my friend!Stay Sane Out There.www.kidsareweirdpodcast.com
