Life after losing your Dad

Mike Evenson and I dive into the our journeys of losing our dads.  We visit about what we have learned about grieving and holding the tension of being honest about our relationship with our fathers and honoring them.
In this episode, I sit down with Dalton Darnell in Winnemucca, NV.  We talk through his childhood and what it was like growing up in Alabama with divorced parents.  After his high school baseball career was over, he found a replacement for the competitiveness in competition bass fishing.  After college, he tried his hand at becoming a professional angler.  Through the hardships of that journey, he found himself working with his father.  That was when he fell in love with horses and eventually roping.  Through it all, his fiancé/wife stuck with him through thick and thin.  He shares how 310 Ranch Life came to be.  Find out more about Dalton and the rest of the 310 Ranch Life crew at www.310ranchlife.com

Scott grew up on a farm in Idaho and quickly decided that wasn't the life for him.  He left home at an early age and worked in Idaho and Montana in his teens before heading to Nevada. The buckaroo lifestyle took ahold, but so did the drinking.  Solitude also found its way to him and Scott found that being  alone was the answer to his anxiety that came from being around people.  After a bad horse wreck, that left him in a coma, Scott went on the journey of self discovery.   He realized how his many  injuries had taken their toll.  He openly shares his journey with drinking and his relationship with God and religion.Scott is as honest and hard working as they come.  He is the cowboss at the historic C Punch ranch, which is the largest ranch, in Nevada,  inside one fence, 1,000,000 acres with no cross fences.Scott and his wife, Andrea are the founders of the Buckaroo Traditions Gathering Big loop roping. Their event will be this Nov. 17-19 in Winnemucca, NV.   For more info check www.btgathering.comWild Courage Fall retreat Nov 3-5if interested email info@thewildcourage.lifethis retreat will be held at www.rcretreat.com

In this episode, Jeremy talks with Greg, his friend for almost 30 years.  Greg has cowboyed in Wyoming, Oregon, Idaho, Montana and Utah.  He is as humble and hard working as they come.  He grew up as one of five kids in Star Valley, Wyoming.  He shares his journey of finding self worth after a failed marriage, overcoming guilt and shame from religious institutions and how he has found a personal relationship with the Father. Jane was born and raised in WY,  on a very rural ranch. Her grandfather homesteaded just outside of Jackson Hole near Yellowstone National Park. In this episode, Jane shares the rich history of her family and how she and her sisters worked side by side with their dad on the ranch making ends meet during the hard times and long winters. Jane also shares how she chose to chase healing vs being a victim after 2 failed marriages and being a single mom of two boys. Her wisdom is so pure and powerful and comes from a deep place of humility. Jane is a treasure to all that get the honor of knowing her.www.diamondcrossranch.com
Jay Heck is the founder of Being Sons, he takes fathers and sons and fathers and daughters on adventures in the wilds of Texas and Colorado. In this episode Jay shares where this idea come from and the impact it had on him and his family. Tyler Avent, is a cowboy's cowboy.  He doesn't talk about it yet, he can back it up. If ya know you know. Tyler's story started out like many a young cowboy's story does, moving around from ranch to ranch, just wanting to be a cowboy and make a hand. Somewhere along the line he got off track. This is the incredibly courageous story of how he fought back and found that the narrow path is the way back to his faith, freedom and his family.  Tyler's story is as vulnerable as they come, which makes sense because this is as authentic of a man as I have ever had the pleasure of interviewing. If your interested in more info about the retreat please emailinfo@thewildcourage.life
Britton and I visit about life after divorce, the loss of our fathers and how unprocessed pain can show up. We share from our personal experiences and some of what we have learned along the way. What is the result of unprocessed pain and/or unresolved conflict? Often times it can manifest in this “tool” known as the PVR triangle. A PVR triangle is having a powerless mindset to the circumstance and, in the absence of dealing with that pain or conflict, we will show up as a persecutor victim, or seeking rescue because we don’t believe there’s power to change the situation. Find out more about Britton and how to get in touch with him at4014consulting.comZion61ministries.net
Sathiya Sam, is a pioneer in leading men out of porn addiction. In this episode of The Wild Courage Podcast, he shares what he has learned from his own journey with porn addiction.  He shares the crippling shame and pain that comes with years of being a slave to the fastest growing epidemic in the world.  Sathiya has worked with thousands of men to find healing and redemption from porn in ways that differ from the internet filters and accountability groups that are more of the “white knuckle” approach.  We unpack the shame that comes with being unable to “stop”, how easy it is to get  trapped into this addiction and how different it is from alcohol and drug addiction.  If you or someone you know struggles with this, don’t pass this episode by.Check Sathiya out at www.sathiyasam.com www.thewildcourage.life

With all of the challenges that life throws at us that we discuss on the Wild Courage Podcast, we have decided to add a new segment called, The Wild Courage "Tool Box".  In this series, we will take a closer look at "tools" that can be put to use to help you through whatever it is you may be facing.  If you stay in any relationship long enough, you will evolve, for better or worse.  What do you do when your spouse or friend, isn't growing at the same pace?  Justin and I pull from some our our personal experience to dive into this topic.  Justin is a top tier counselor and the host of the Connected Life Podcast.  He and his wife, Abi have a life consulting business where they offer multiple emotional health courses, some of which have had a great impact on my journey.  Check them out at Justinandabi.com
Gary walks with a limp and smells like smoke because he has been to hell and back. He has traveled the world, and lived in the "palace" as well as the "pit" and has now settled somewhere in the middle.  He has felt the loss of a child and yet, he has learned how to still show up for those around him and face life head on. www.garyandlisablack.comwww.jointhejourneymen.com
John has put to paper what every man has felt inside, but had no idea how to say or express it.  He is the most humble, down to earth, powerful man I have ever met.  In this episode, John openly shares his story of growing up with a mother who gave herself to her job and a dad who gave himself to the bottle.  He was a product of the 60's and 70's, sex, drugs, & rock-n-roll era.  In the midst of that, John had an encounter with God that changed everything.  It was such and honor to get to sit with John and listen to his story.  Enjoy. www.thewildcourage.lifewww.wildatheart.org
Sometimes we need permission to just be sad, to be honest with ourselves and it's ok.
Jason is no stranger to digging into his own story as he has been on the "journey" of self excavation and healing for a decade. Jason shares his story of growing up bouncing around from place to place and how fighting became his way to fit in and make new friends. Like many he found himself at the "bottom" when he was on "top" of the world because of what it cost him and his marriage to get to there. Jason's story is so encouraging because his life is proof that you can find redemption if you’re willing to put in the work and find humility. Jason is a man who is in process and is embracing the journey and leads us all in humility.www.thewildcourage.life
Josh grew up in a very loving, two parent Christian home. Although he struggled through school, he excelled in sports and mostly colored inside the lines. After a brief stint in college, he soon found himself excelling in the corporate world.  To meet Josh, he would seem to be a very buttoned up, fun loving guy with all his ducks in a row.  However, most would never know what was going on on the inside. He gives us some insight to what his self exploration journey has been like.
Bryan joined me as we talked about the past year of fires, retreats and the podcast. We share some insight on where we believe this is all headed. Thank you for going along with us on this journey. We have big plans for 2023 and are excited to see them come to fruition.https://thewildcourage.life/donation/
