In Ep12 Cole and Magnus are starting a month-long exploration of the return to the physical workplace. Something we know is causing quite a lot of head scratching, discussion and anxiety as people try to work out what are the best options for both the organisation and the people who work there.Research in the UK shows 40% of people – and 50% of those under 35 – believe a full-time return to the office would be bad for their mental wellbeingEP12 is the usual mighty mix of data, the science, the personal stories, ideas, optimism, laughter – all exploring kindness in so many ways, designed to inspire thought and instigate action to improve the connections we share and the outcomes we create, together. This is a golden opportunity for us all. An opportunity to cast off the ways of working that didn't serve us well. To get rid of the habits that get in the way. To carry on and amplify the things we started over lockdown that are working well. And to start the things we've meant to but not got round to yet.---About ColeCole is an unconventional blend of a business person, mindfulness practitioner, and yogi. What if we treated ourselves and each other like athletes at work? What would that do for well-being AND performance? What if we looked out for each other as much as we looked for the next sale, or how much profit we are making?Sports teams monitor their performance just as intensely as any CEO looking at spreadsheets, but they also look after the well-being of their players; because they know it's the people on the team that create the outcomes. Let's treat each other at work like athletes; when we look after ourselves and others, we all thrive, we all perform at our best.96% of people surveyed think well-being is the responsibility of organisations, yet 79% think that well-being  is not designed or integrated into the workplace itself. The truth is we're all responsible for well-being at work - for our own wellbeing and supporting that of our colleagues. This episode is a rallying cry to encourage everybody to do everything they can about their own well-being but also about the well being of the people they work with. And, especially if you are a leader, be the example by having good work practices and good self caring self kindness practices for yourself, because it will inspire them and give them permission, in many cases, to follow suit.EP11 is the usual mighty mix of data, the science, the personal stories, ideas, optimism, laughter – all exploring kindness in so many ways, designed to inspire thought and instigate action to improve the connections we share and the outcomes we create, together. ---About ColeCole is an unconventional blend of a business person, mindfulness practitioner, and yogi. Episode 2 of the podcast that's encouraging people to create kinder workplaces, with all the wonderful benefits that brings. In each episode, by Cole and Magnus, we focus on an aspect of kindness in business, we share personal stories, we share data and insights, and we give the listener ideas to act on today. In this episode we talk about why kindness in business is necessary.Cole shares a story of how she encouraged one CEO to understand that it is PEOPLE who create the business outcomes he was looming for. It was, for him as it is for many, a revelation. She shares how he encouraged to get him to focus to create a kinder workplace culture, in order to help them flourish, work well together, and so create the desirable business outcomes everyone wanted.Magnus shares a story of another CEO, looking for growth, who came to realise that growth comes from his people growing. In each podcast we share data and insights. Magnus talks of a study by LinkedIn that reported CEOs saying the pandemic is the toughest challenge they have ever faced in their careers. Meanwhile their majority of their employees are responding by becoming kinder.Cole tells a powerful story of a young manager who, faced with the resignation of one of his rockstar employees, was encouraged by Cole to ask his rockstar a simple question, "Why are you leaving?" A 15-minute exit interview turned into a 90-minute session in which he learnt that she was not valued. This insight allowed the conversation to turn hugely positive, with the employee staying and engage more powerfully, amplifying the desired business outcomes. Cole also advised the manager how to kindly show how much the employee was appreciated and what she contributing.Trust, productivity, engagement, workplace success – these are many of the powerful reasons why kindness is so necessary in business.$1 trillion is lost to businesses every year to businesses according to voluntary turnover, according to Gartner and 52% of that can be avoided. Kindness has the power to chip away that 52% by encouraging people to engage more powerfully with each other. If there's one reason why kindness in business is necessary, that's a pretty strong contender for the best one.In each podcast we share actions you can implement immediately. Today's is that the way we connect with one another matters. Cole talks about the power of saying to the people you work with "I value you, and here's why." Cole also shares shared a powerful follow up to this which makes this action work even harder. Each week we share news and this week Cole introduced her new podcast, Kindness Think Tank, which is a series of conversations with people who share stories of the unexpected ways they're bringing kindness into their lives and businesses. Kindness Think Tank is live on Apple Podcasts and everywhere you listen to your favourite podcasts.Closing up the episode Magnus talks about next week's episode, where we will be focusing on kindness and TRUST.To connect with Cole and learn more about her work, visit her at www.coolaudrey.com or on LinkedIn at https://www.linkedin.com/in/colebakerbagwell/To connect with Magnus, got to www.thekindnessconsultancy.com or https://www.linkedin.com/in/magnuswood/
Welcome to Little Shots of Kindness! The new weekly podcast by Cole Baker Bagwell from the United States and Magnus Wood from the UK. We're two people from across the pond who, quite independently, discovered we are helping business to become kinder. Shortly after we met the idea for this podcast came to life.  "Let's start a weekly podcast that changes the way people think about kindness in business," we both agreed. "Let's share stories, data and tips on actionable kindness you can take into your week to fuel your business and your people."So, here it is – Episode 1.In each episode, by Cole and Magnus, we focus on an aspect of kindness in business, we share personal stories, we share data and insights, and we give the listener ideas to act on today. In this first episode we introduce ourselves and the experiences that led us to focus our work encouraging businesses to power up with kindness. We share our individual definitions of kindness which, for Magnus, is being fully present, putting your ego to one side, seeing the other or others, and then doing the right thing as a result. For Cole kindness means Do No Harm in thought, word, or action. We discuss the reasons why kindness, so far, has not been a priority for many businesses and explore what we both know from our research and our own experience, that kindness actually fuels people and the outcomes. And this is a simple truth that we feel has been missed in business. Magnus shares the power of being kind to yourself as a starting place for creating kinder workplaces and, today's recommended action, is to do something kind to yourself. In each episode we share what we're up to and news. Magnus's news this week is that his new book, THE KINDNESS CODE, has been published and is available on Amazon, iBooks, Google Play and other quality online booksellers. Find out more at www.thekindnesscode.ioIn next week's episode we'll be talking about why kindness is essential in business. To connect with Cole and learn more about her work, visit her at www.coolaudrey.com or on LinkedIn at https://www.linkedin.com/in/colebakerbagwell/To connect with Magnus, got to www.thekindnessconsultancy.com or https://www.linkedin.com/in/magnuswood/
