Description

A look back at the movies from our youth. The movies from the 80s and early 90s that defined a generation. Are they still awesome? Do they hold up for modern audiences? Was there a video game? Does the movies' legacy live on? All these questions will be answered and much more.

Romancing the Stone

Romancing the Stone

2024-04-3001:14:06

Episode 161 is ready to download, and this week, Liam and Rod disagree on just about everything. Whether it be Michael Douglas' status as a movie star, his chemistry with Kathleen Turner and, well, just about everything else that we discuss as we look back at Robert Zemeckis' 1984, romantic adventure movie, Romancing the Stone. Link in bio.
Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior

Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior

2024-04-2301:35:26

Episode 160 is here, and this week, Liam, Rob and special guest, Dave, look back at George Miller's, 1981 dystopian 'future' classic, Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior....or is that just Mad Max 2? Or just The Road Warrior. Perhaps you don't like the '2' and it's simply, Mad Max: The Road Warrior. Whatever your title of choice might be, join us as we discuss Mel Gibson vs Tom Hardy, the fact that Australia went to pot in double quick time and, while I always thought those feathery haircuts at the compound were slightly daft looking, turn out that they were in fact time appropriate. Link in bio.
The Abyss

The Abyss

2024-04-1601:22:17

Episode 159 of the Hey You Guys Podcast is ready to download, and this week, Liam and Rob looked back at James Cameron's, 1989 technical masterpiece, The Abyss. Now, it might not be his most beloved movie, and it's far from his most successful, but one could argue that, in many respects, it's the ultimate James Cameron movie. Does it hold up though? One of the earlier adopters of CG, a shoot that pushed the cast a crew to their limits, and a premise that is far from traditional popcorn fare, The Abyss was always something of a cinematic long shot, so please join us (link in bio) as we discuss this most interesting of 80s movies.
Blind Fury

Blind Fury

2024-04-0901:14:32

Episode 158 of the Hey You Guys Podcast is ready to download, and this week, we look back at Rutger Hauer's rarely talked about, Blind Fury. A reinterpretation of the long running Zatoichi series, Blind Fury, while tonally inconsistent, manages to deliver action, laughs an emotion in equal measure, and for all its faults, it's ultimately held together by a fantastic leading performance from Hauer. Link in Bio.
Arachnophobia

Arachnophobia

2024-04-0201:29:15

Episode 157 is here, and this week, Liam and Rob look back at 1990's Amblin classic, Arachnophobia. Are spiders still scary? Does John Goodman steal the show. Was Frank Marshall trying to give a generation of kids a genuine phobia? More importantly, does the movie hold up nearly 35 years after its initial release? We discuss.
The Mummy (1999)

The Mummy (1999)

2024-03-2501:16:21

The latest Hey You Guys Podcast is here, and this week we revisit 1999's, The Mummy. Do the once cutting edge effects still hold up? Is Brendan Fraser as dashing as you remember? Is this the best Indian Jones movie not called Indiana Jones? We discuss.
Predator 2

Predator 2

2024-03-1901:22:48

Does Predator 2 hold up? We discuss on this week's, Hey You Guys Podcast. Is Danny Glover a decent lead? Is the movie too sweaty? Is the Predator kind of an idiot? Is this the 2nd best Predator movie? Find out via the links below.
Bubba Ho-Tep

Bubba Ho-Tep

2024-03-1201:10:20

Episode 154 of the Hey You Guys Podcast is here and this week, Liam, Rob and special guest, Dave look back at Bruce Campbell's magnificent cult classic, Bubba Ho-Tep. With one of the the strangest movie premises of all time and a genuinely fantastic portrayal of the King of Rock and Roll, this 2002 curio remains as ludicrous, strangely poignant and, above all else, as watchable as ever.
Street Fighter

Street Fighter

2024-03-0501:16:07

This week on they Hey You Guys Podcast, Liam and Rob look back at 1994 disasterpiece, Jean-Claude Van Damme's, Street Fighter. A movie that many have suggested is the worst video game movie ever made, but one that we would argue isn't even the worst Street Fighter movie. Still, whatever way you look at it, 1994's Street Fighter remains a stinker - the question remains though; is Street Fighter so good that it's bad or is it simply so bad that it's bad? We discuss via the links below.
Gladiator (1992)

Gladiator (1992)

2024-02-2701:21:23

Episode 152 of the Hey You Guys podcast is here, and this week, Liam and Rob look back at one of the finest movies of the 21st century, one of Russel Cr.....oh, wait, that's not right. No, we didn't watch that Gladiator, we watched the 1992 high school underground boxing, uhhhh, classic? Yeah, we watched that one, and well, it was an experience. With its fantastic soundtrack, bonkers fashion and equally bonkers performances, Gladiator is nothing of not fun to talk about. Listen in via the links below.
Air Force One

Air Force One

2024-02-2001:13:24

Episode 151 of the Hey You Guys Podcast is here, and this week, Liam and Rob look back at 90s political action thriller, Air Force One. It might be elevated by star turns from Harrison Ford and Gary Oldman, but make no mistake, this is still Die Hard on a plane, and dare I say, a tad Team America towards the end. Does it hold up though? Find out via the links below.
Episode 150 of the Hey You Guys Podcast is here, and seeing that it is the 25th anniversary of the Prequel trilogy (and that Rob isn't feeling very well), we thought it a great excuse to take another look back at Liam's favourite of the Prequel trilogy and the one that, well, Rob just about put up with. It might not have been particularly well received by critics back in 2005, but Episode III continues to find new fans, and with the Prequel trilogy now held in higher regard, it seems as good a time as any to see just how well this previously underrated sci-fi classic (Liam's words, not Rob's) has actually held up.
Legend

Legend

2024-02-0601:19:25

Episode 149 of the Hey You Guys Podcast is here, and this week, Liam and Rob look at Ridley Scott's divisive fantasy epic, Legend. With an oddly forgettable performance from Tom Cruise levelled out by one of the biggest ever screen performances from Tim Curry as Darkness, 1985's, Legend is nothing if not a movie of peaks an troughs. Do the effects hold up though? Did the script survive the many rewrites and relentless studio interference? Is Tom Cruise's tunic far too short, and above all else, does the movie simply have too much glitter? We discuss via the links below.
Under Siege

Under Siege

2024-01-3001:19:25

Episode 148 is here, and this week, Liam finally watches his first Steven Seagal movie (Executive Decision doesn't count) and Rob, well, doesn't watch his first Steven Seagal movie. 1992's Under Siege, for better and for worse, certainly delivers plenty to talk about with giant cakes, male ponytails, studded leather jackets and cross dressing all coming under examination on this week's, Hey You Guys Podcast.
Idle Hands

Idle Hands

2024-01-2301:20:42

Episode 147 is here, and this week, Liam and Rob look back at 1999 cult horror comedy, Idle Hands. It might have bombed at the box office, but with its killer soundtrack, great cast and wonderfully kitsch tone, few movies represent their era as successfully.
The NeverEnding Story

The NeverEnding Story

2024-01-1601:12:32

Episode 146 is here, and this week, Liam and Rob look back at 1984's, beloved family fantasy adventure, The NeverEnding Story. With strong opinions on horse deaths, suspect dragon dogs and the utter madness of mixing raw eggs with orange juice, Wolfgang Petersen's, aggressively 80s adventure delivers plenty to talk about.
Dogma

Dogma

2024-01-1001:24:34

Episode 145 of the Hey You Guys podcast is here, and this week, Liam and Rob look back at Kevin Smith's controversial turn of the century religious comedy, Dogma. Arguably one of his best movies, and certainly home to one of the decade's finest casts, Dogma remains a hugely quotable, massively likeable, and yes, narratively messy movie. Oh, and Dogma vs From Dusk 'till Dawn, that's definitely discussed.
Battle Royale

Battle Royale

2024-01-0101:10:08

Episode 144 is here, and this week we look back at one of the most influential and iconic movies of the noughties. It had a massive influence on The Hunger Games franchise, and an even bigger impact on the world of video games. The premise is one of cinema's most compelling, but is the movie as strong as the idea that ultimately drives it? Join us as we discuss turn of the century classic, Kinji Fukasaku's, Battle Royale.
Episode 143 is ready to download, but as you can see, it's not the planned look back at 2022's, Violent Night. Due to technical difficulties, that podcast was lost to the sands of time, so in its place, we are re-releasing a rather drunk look back at Christmas classic (and yes, it's a Christmas movie), Lethal Weapon.
Merry Christmas! The 4th part of our Christmas Season of podcasts is here, and this week we look back at one of the best Christmas movies that might not actually be a Christmas movie. 1993's, The Nightmare Before Christmas is just as magical as you remember....as long as you stop watching after about 40 minutes or so.
