The Sydney Sentinel's Travis de Jonk explores the week's top stories on sydneysentinel.com.au.This week we are examining Sydney's fetish and kink scenes - subcultures as diverse and fascinating as the people who partake in them. Sydney’s fetish and kink scene in the '80s and '90s was a thriving subculture - but it has experienced something of a decline in recent years.  However, a swag of new initiatives are reviving interest in the scene. In this episode, we speak to two groups that are redefining fetish and kink in Sydney in the 2020s, revealing how important and empowering it is, and showing us that fetish and kink is as relevant as ever. OUR SPECIAL GUESTS ON THE SHOW THIS WEEK are Matt Bluf - an instigator of gay pop-up bar The Eagle Bar Sydney, and Thomas Seggie, who is a representative and an organiser of a relatively new fetish and kink social group known as The Hide. FIND OUT MORE & GET INVOLVED:The Eagle Bar Sydney : http://www.eaglesydney.com.au/The Hide : https://www.facebook.com/thehidesydneyFetish Australia : https://www.facebook.com/groups/1600540383571071/LISTEN to all our previous Sentinel Speakeasy episodes, 24/7 here: https://thesentinelspeakeasy.buzzsprout.com or on any of the popular podcast services including Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Deezer, Amazon, Google and more. The Sydney Sentinel is an independent, progressive new voice in Sydney's media landscape, offering a fresh take on Sydney. The Sydney Sentinel's Travis de Jonk explores the week's top stories on sydneysentinel.com.au.OUR SPECIAL GUEST ON THE SHOW THIS WEEK is John Baker - a pioneering trailblazer of gay publishing in Australia. Baker launched his gay lifestyle magazine William & John back in 1972  - just a few years after the Stonewall riots in the US and six years before the first ever Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras protests.Recognised as the first ever commercial lifestyle gay publication in Australia, its format is one that is still largely used today. Featuring full nude male centrefolds as well as articles on politics, arts and health, it connected gay people together like nothing before. However Baker faced fierce opponents both in and out of the gay community over William & John. Some were determined to censor and ultimately close the magazine.
