JD and I sit down and talk about music, dance, modeling, and even acting. **** JD Reynolds is an artist in the truest sense of the word. The world of country music is paying attention to Australian country music artist JD Reynolds. Her latest release '8 Seconds' hit the highly coveted #1 spot on Australian Country Radio during 2023 Grammy week. For a 100% independent artist, that's truly something. Just wait until the world hears her upcoming release called ‘A Little Piece of Your Heart’.  The incredible singer, songwriter, producer, and award-winning choreographer has achieved international acclaim with her fresh twist on country music. The world of Professional Bull Riding all around the globe from Australia, USA, and Canada to Brazil embraced her powerful song ‘8 Seconds’. So much so, within 24 hours of The Australian PBR announcing JD was performing LIVE at the PBR Monster Energy K Ranch Invitational, the event SOLD OUT with fans clamoring to get a ticket, some fans paid $400 for a scalpers ticket just to see JD Reynolds. It was the only PBR SOLD OUT event in 2022. JD has graced the cover of Nashville Country Music Magazine and the glossy pages of Cowboys & Indians Magazine, being labeled “Country’s new ‘it’ girl”. For a new artist, JD has millions of combined song streams with smash hits such as 'Whatever' and 'Rebound'. JD's girl-power anthem 'WHATEVER' hit #5 on KIX Hottest 20 and #8 on the Australian Country Music Charts AND made the Hottest 50 songs of 2021. ‘Whatever’ caused such a stir that the music video premiered on Country Rebel to over 8 million viewers. JD Reynolds creates a buzz in country music that has the likes of the biggest US media outlets such as NEWSMAX, Country Rebel, and Guitar Girl Magazine all wanting to know who the country’s new ‘it’ girl is and what inspires her fresh twist on the country which already has its own country genre, “The JD Sound”. Speaking with JD LIVE with over 3 million viewers in New York, NEWSMAX told JD she has “a lot of folk’s attention” and congratulated her on being a "major player in terms of music”. And they are spot on.As a trained dancer and award-winning choreographer, JD needs to dance her own moves as well as sing her own words and melodies. “Dance is a part of who I am, for me, dance is an expression of the soul, expressing what words simply cannot”. The three together have been described as “cutting-edge visual poetry.” Captivating those who hear her and mesmerizing those who see her, JD knows how to make Country sound great and look even better. Website: https://www.jdreynoldsofficial.comIf you would like to contact the show about being a guest please email us at Dauna@betertopodcast.comFollow us on Social MediaThis episode is on YouTube: https://youtu.be/tVGIcbz7DXQInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/author_d.m.needom/Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/bettertopodcastwithdmneedomHave a question or want to be a guest on the podcast email: dauna@bettertopodcast.comHave a question for our producer Rich Zei contact him at rich.zei@thirdearaudio.comIntro and Outro music compliments of Fast SuziTo see upcoming guests click here: https://www.dmneedom.com/better-topodcast©2024 Better To...Podcast with D. Edward joins the show to discuss his novel, his experience in the Space Shuttle Simulator, and what would really happen if some of our fears came to light. ****Before taking the plunge in 2004 into full-time writing, technologist turned author Edward M. Lerner spent thirty years in high tech at every level from engineer to senior vice president. Many novels later, he’s glad (and still just slightly surprised) that he leaped. He worked at such techie havens as Bell Labs, Hughes Aircraft, and Northrop Grumman—and at a long-gone start-up of which you’ve likely never heard. He delivered high-tech products and systems to government agencies (including NASA, the FBI, and the Defense Department) and commercial customers as varied as AT&T and McDonald’s. Along the way, he visited a satellite factory, flew the space shuttle training simulator, wandered about the space station trainer, and watched a space shuttle launch. Sooner or later, all that experience shows up in his fiction.Lerner’s novels run the gamut from technothrillers like Energized (solar-power satellites), Small Miracles (medical nanotech), and Fools’ Experiments (AI) to traditional science fiction, like Dark Secret and his InterstellarNet series, to (with NY Times bestselling author Larry Niven) the space epic Fleet of Worlds series. Ed’s fiction has been nominated for Hugo, Prometheus, and Locus awards, and won the inaugural Canopus Award.Ed’s short fiction has appeared in major science fiction magazines, anthologies, and collections. His short story “Grandpa?” became the award-winning short film “The Grandfather Paradox.”He also writes nonfiction, most notably Trope-ing the Light Fantastic: The Science Behind the Fiction. He also teaches the occasional writing class, blogs regularly on the state of science and SF. He has spoken at, among venues, the Library of Congress and the US Naval Academy. His fiction has been translated into ten languages. The varied career(s) didn’t just happen: Ed’s education is almost as eclectic, with degrees in physics, computer science, and business.Lerner is a member of the Science-fiction and Fantasy Writers of America (SFWA), the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), and  SIGMA (not an acronym, and sometimes known as “The Science Fiction Think Tank”).Lerner was born in Chicago and has lived in Illinois, New Jersey, and New York. He now resides in Virginia. On this episode, I sat down with Phyllis Leavitt to discuss America's Mental Health this week. We dig deep into why her new book America in Therapy is so timely.**** When I became a psychotherapist, I never imagined I would one day be entering a “political” arena. But the more I worked with widespread family dysfunction and its horrifying legacy of pain and violence, the more I realized that the greatest threat to our survival as a country and as a species is our declining mental health.I knew what we learned about healing family violence can and must be applied to healing America. I felt compelled to leave the confines of my office and speak to a broader audience. I wanted to share my message of urgency to get ourselves on a path of healing, and I wanted to share a message of Hope that we can restore ourselves to Safety, Peace, and Love by healing the wounds we have suffered and the wounds we have inflicted that keep a cycle of violence going. I wrote America in Therapy for all those hungry for this message.I graduated from Antioch University with a Master’s in Psychology and Counseling in 1989. I co-directed a family-based sexual abuse treatment program called Parents United in Santa Fe, New Mexico, until 1991 and then went into private practice full-time for the next 30-plus years.I have worked extensively with abuse and dysfunctional family dynamics, their aftermath, and some of the most important elements for healing. My focus today is on my latest book, America in Therapy: A New Approach to Hope and Healing for a Nation in Crisis.I have also published two other books, A Light in the Darkness and Into the Fire, which chronicle my personal healing journey. I live with my husband in Taos, NM, and I am retired from my psychotherapy practice, focusing on writing and speaking.******If you would like to contact the show about being a guest please email us at Dauna@betertopodcast.comFollow us on Social MediaThis episode on YouTube: https://youtu.be/X5bcTBEY49AInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/author_d.m.needom/Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/bettertopodcastwithdmneedomHave a question or want to be a guest on the podcast email: dauna@bettertopodcast.comTo see upcoming guests click here: https://www.dmneedom.com/better-topodcast©2023 Better To...Podcast with D. Texting has certainly become an easy way to communicate. However, what happens when a mother saves the texts to her sons? The result, “Text Messages To My Sons” by author Tammy J. Cohen.According to Cohen, “Have you ever struggled to communicate with your children? If you know kids, in-person conversations are just not happening. It can seem like we have so many more options available to us than any other time in history, yet we also feel more disconnected than ever. Just because technology has provided us more immediate access to our loved ones than ever before does not mean we are using the luxury wisely. And there is no better feeling than to let those we love know just how much we think of them and value their presence in our life. There is no greater power than being able to find a direct and simple way to communicate knowledge, inspiration, gratitude, and love; using technology may be the key.  “Over the past few years, I wanted to not only evolve but also change the way I interact with my sons. I wanted to be someone they wanted to hear from, that they would look forward to my messages. So, to find a more meaningful relationship with my sons, I reached out to them in a language they understand – texting! It is my true hope for anyone reading this book to become inspired with new ways to connect with your loved ones, whether it is children, siblings, extended family, or spouses. The evidence is undeniable. Ever since I started this journey, my relationship with my sons is enriched and those friends who I have shared this passion project with reacted with encouragement and the desire to do this with their loved ones. For those who started doing this, the results have been wonderful.”https://www.amazon.com/Text-Messages-My-Sons-Connecting/dp/B0CK3QDHTM***If you would like to contact the show about being a guest please email us at Dauna@betertopodcast.comFollow us on Social MediaThis episode on YouTube: https://youtu.be/G304GcNF6XcInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/author_d.m.needom/Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/bettertopodcastwithdmneedomHave a question or want to be a guest on the podcast email: dauna@bettertopodcast.comTo see upcoming guests click here: https://www.dmneedom.com/better-topodcast©2023 Better To...Podcast with D. Audrey and I discuss her book, American Wolf: From Nazi Refugee to American Spy as well as how time off forced her to look at life in a different way.*****Growing up in New York in the late 1960s, Audrey Birnbaum assumed that watching Holocaust documentaries was a perfectly normal family activity. On her first day of elementary school, Audrey sat in the cafeteria, unwrapped her liverwurst sandwich, and excitedly told her new classmates about her public television proclivities. Her Brady Bunch-watching peers had never heard of PBS, but they had heard of PB&J (and they weren't too keen on liverwurst either). They made it abundantly clear: Audrey's childhood was, in fact, not normal at all. We will never know whether it was schoolyard bullying or watching tragic Shoah documentaries that was responsible for Audrey's acute sensitivity to others; but that empathy may have helped pave the way for her choice of medicine as a career. Audrey chose to specialize in Pediatric Gastroenterology - for who needed more help than children; and where could anyone feel more suffering than in one's gut? Day in and day out, she watched intricate family dynamics play out in the context of fragile health. Audrey listened to each patient's story until she could retell it with clarity and give it meaning. Through witnessing and recording these tender dramas, the seeds of writing had been planted. Shortly after her father's death in 2018, Audrey stumbled upon his extensive notes detailing his childhood escape from Nazi Germany. Audrey felt compelled to start writing his riveting story - a story addressing themes that are pressingly relevant today. While "American Wolf" deals with tragedy and loss, it punctuates the triumph of the human spirit. It is a memoir of Holocaust survival, a family drama, an immigration tale, and an often funny coming-of-age story that is sure to have an impact on anyone who has experienced prejudice, displacement, or questions about their identity. With her cherished medical career in the rear-view mirror, Audrey now enjoys singing, writing, reading, and being with friends who also had quirky childhoods. She lives with her husband in Westchester County, New York, and has three marvelous grown children. Audrey is currently working on her second book.  ****"American Wolf: From Nazi Refugee to American Spy" is a riveting and inspiring book.It is a deeply personal story that is a true story of author Audrey Birnbaum's father, Jack Wolf Schwersenz, his family's nail-biting escape from Germany, and his subsequent adventure-filled efforts to embrace his adopted home. Peter is back and we discuss his upcoming music fest. The ever-changing music business, before we dive into the world at large. *****Peter is a meditation coach, Ki Gong instructor, Sound Healer, and musician. He was a professional musician for about ten years, but the money was drying up as the opportunities started to disappear because of the changing face of the music industry. He then went on to become a Ki Gong instructor and a meditation coach. This was a hard decision and made him realize why he had experienced the kind of life he had. It was the right decision but it felt wrong at the time. It has been an interesting conundrum for him.  Website: https://www.peterpaulparker.co.uk/YouTube:  https://www.youtube.com/c/peterpaulparker Conscious Music For The People Event: https://consciousmusecollective.com/conscious-music-for-the-people*******If you would like to contact the show about being a guest please email us at Dauna@bettertopodcast.comFollow us on Social MediaYouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCX0ETs2wpOHbCuhUNr0XFTw?view_as=subscriberInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/author_d.m.needom/Twitter: https://twitter.com/DaunaD1Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/bettertopodcastwithdmneedomVideo of the interview is available here:https://youtu.be/om4DvdemDKkSupport the show
Starting Season 7 off with a solo podcast. In this podcast I talk about Life, the new pup, becoming a teacher, and being an author. ***D.M. Needom has been creating stories since she was a kid. She started committing them to paper when she was in high school. Starting off as a bassist and television model during her first foray into college, she soon discovered her preferred form of education was working in the music and film industries. Living a fortuitous life, D.M. Needom appreciates the amazing opportunities she’s had in her life. Her first stint as a radio personality came after she won a contest for knowing the song of the day. She was a mere blur in My Best Friend’s Wedding as Julia Roberts ran past while she was an extra. However, the excitement of being on the set made her long to work on other projects. Her longing eventually led her to sign on to a low-budget sitcom, where she was an actress and had many other positions, including line producer.  She’s stated numerous times that it was one of her favorite jobs. Originally from New Orleans, she now calls the North West Burbs of Chicago her home with her three fur babies; Chloe kitty, and Cami and Charlie, pups. While she got to experience motherhood being a stepmother, true love was elusive until she met her second husband, with whom she spent sixteen wonderful years together. Currently, she is working on Two follow-ups to My Daze with the Dark Muse, Is Love Just Another High, and Gotta Get High To Fall So Low. She is also a gifted intuitive Psychic Medium as well as Tarot and Oracle card reader. D. M. Needom has been providing readings at events, parties, privately for over 30 years in the Chicago area. Currently, she is offering Intuitive readings online and at Synergy Collective, where she also teaches.***Website: www.dmneedom.comFind Books, Classes, and more at:  https://linktr.ee/DMNeedomVideo for the episode can be found here. :https://youtu.be/FQ1xSjrne-ASupport the show

Nick and I discuss his book Executive Loneliness*******Executive depression, anxiety, and isolation – and the substance abuse, family breakdowns, poor physical health, self-harm, and suicide that can all too frequently result – were a major issue long before most of us had even heard the word “coronavirus”.I know this for a fact because three years ago, I myself went through a severe breakdown. At the time, I was performing very well in my career and had recently been placed in Singapore by my company.Over the previous decade, however, I’d been unexpectedly laid off from senior roles working in Indonesia and Vietnam.I couldn’t shake the paranoia that no matter how good my performance was, I could be retrenched at any moment. I lived on edge – and drinking took the edge off. When I first moved to Singapore, I was all alone in a foreign country, so I sought solace in alcohol and the superficial social circle of my local bar. I stopped exercising and gained 20kg within a few months of arriving in this country. It wasn’t the wonderful food here that did it – no, it was the booze. Drinking heavily at the end of most days was, to my mind, a reward and a form of therapy, but in fact it only left me feeling more imbalanced, lonely and disconnected.Psychosomatic disorders and my unhealthy lifestyle began to affect me physically.I felt I couldn’t get any more down and even made a will in preparation for my death, which I thought could come at any time, despite being only 43 years of age.I’d hit an all-time low. Finally, I acknowledged that I had to do something.I had to speak to someone. I actually consider myself lucky for having a drinking problem, because that meant I found my way to Alcoholics Anonymous.AA has been an invaluable source of support, helping give me the strength to remain sober these past two-and-a-half years.Getting back into exercise and participating in triathlons, I gradually regained my physical fitness, which in turn led to me achieving better mental balance. But I think the thing that helped me most was “paying it forward” and devoting time to service – giving back. For me, that meant contributing a portion of my time to an organization called SOS, Samaritans of Singapore.SOS provides emotional support to people in crisis, individuals who might be depressed and thinking about suicide, or who have been affected by the suicide of someone close to them. The suicide of a close friend when I was in the early stages of my recovery came as a real shock. No one knew he was feeling such despair. He suffered in silence, as so many high-powered executives do (especially men).He hadn’t told anyone about his depression or dark thoughts – and that was a terrible wake-up call for me.His book, Executive Loneliness,Website********If you would like to contact the show about being a guest please email us at Dauna@bettertopodcast.comYouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCX0ETs2wpOHbCuhUNr0XFTw?view_as=subscriberVideo of the interview is available here: https://youtu.be/P7LnFxk6GKoSound Design and production by Rich Zei at Third Ear Audio ©2022 Better To...Podcast with D.
