7 Reasons Not To Marry

7 Reasons Not To Marry

Marry! Marry!! Marry!!! Yes please but definitely not for the seven reasons on this week’s episode. I have found from marriage counselling that a lot of the issues that pop up later in marriages stem from foundational challenges that should have been addressed before proceeding into the marriage. I hope this episode helps singles have a good think about the reason for which they are getting married and retrace their steps if it’s for any of the reasons on this episode. And if you are married already? There’s always room for reflection, review and growth. That’s why it’s a lifetime relationship.Don't forget to rate, review and subscribe to this podcast.Connect with us on Instagram (https://www.instagram.com/nkmaduforo/?hl=en ) and YouTube (https://www.youtube.com/c/NKMaduforo) . Darling; whose fault is it? That’s the question we are dissecting on Episode 5 of the ‘How to Get Married and Stay Married’ podcast. Have you ever been blamed? How did it make you feel? Are you constantly blaming everyone else? It does not feel good to be blamed. Most people will fight back and this leads to a cycle of conversation that leaves both people frustrated. Why do we blame the other person and how can we stop playing the blame game? We see blame played out in the Garden of Eden; Adam blamed Eve; Eve blamed the serpent. Who did the serpent blame? My guest, Chindah Chindah and I have an eye-opening conversation on the topic and how blame sabotages marriages. We conclude with how to break the blame cycle.  Other highlights from this episode are♟️ Why blame is employed as a natural defence (4:15)♟️ Blame’s effect on marriage (6:12)♟️ ‘Blamer’ and ‘Blamee’ (6:55)♟️ Blame in the Garden of Eden (9:36)♟️ The genesis of blame (11:12)♟️ Christ did not play the blame game (14:15)♟️ Approaching issues from a place of love and empathy (18:44)♟️ The way you respond is more vital than what you say (21:17)♟️ How can the blame cycle be broken? About 10-15 percent of couples who undertake premarital counselling decide not to get married after getting some marriage education. Starting out right tremendously increases your chances of staying married for the long haul. In this episode, we go back in time to the very beginning of marriage. My guest, Mrs. Bola Fawole, does a great job of setting out the biblical principles and foundation on which a marriage relationship should be founded.  As a highly experienced pre-marital counsellor and marriage coach, there are no holds barred in this episode. On Episode 3, I am considering ‘How Boundaries Can Help You Stay Married’ with my guest Bralade Koroye-Emenanjo. In her own words, “You and your spouse most likely started your marriage as deep in love as possible never intending to do each other harm and seeking to do right by each other. However, we all have different perspectives in life, our values and culture and personalities inform those preferences of what we believe and how we want to be treated. It goes even further to determine how we treat others. That is why you may mean well but end up doing something that offends your partner and vice versa till you wonder how you can keep the peace and love without compromising your values (excerpt from ‘A line in the sand’ by Bralade Koroye-Emenanjo) Key highlights from this episode are♟️ Drawing a line in the sand in your relationships (3:31)♟️ How ‘boundaries’ are a key part of marriage (6:32)♟️ Definition of boundaries (9:37)♟️ The unity candle (12:29)♟️ A union is not an excuse to control your spouse (16:38)♟️ Boundaries and in-laws (23:44)♟️ Using ‘I’ to express boundaries (29:17)♟️ How boundaries can help singles (30:18)♟️ Money philosophy (51:27) Bralade Koroye-Emenanjo is the founder of Preach What You Practice Media, home of the PWYP Book Series, Podcast and Institute. Why Did I Marry You?

Why Did I Marry You?

Why Did I Marry You?’... the question of the millennium. In this week's episode, we tackle the question 'Why Did I Marry You?'. For the singles, you can revise the question to read, ‘Why Should I Marry You?’. This episode requires a lot of introspection and reflection and I start by asking you to muster up an image of your spouse in your mind and ask this very pertinent question, ‘Why Did I Marry You?’. ‘Why?’ is a very important question as it helps you know the cause, reason, or purpose for something. I take us back to the garden of Eden and use Adam and Eve’s marriage to explore different reasons why people get married but, I am more interested in your own ‘why?’. This is because knowing your ‘Why?’ helps when the rainy day comes and trust me, every marriage will experience rainy days.I make the connection between the reason or reasons for getting married and your marriage staying the course or not when the going gets tough! For example, what happens when the table turns if you only married your spouse for the following reasons  ·       Looks·       Economic stabilityOther highlights from this episode are♟️ Adam and Eve’s rainy day (6:05) ♟️ Know your ‘Why?’ (7:25) ♟️ 5 examples of long haul ‘Whys’ (7:55) ♟️ My own ‘Why?’ (8:12) ♟️ A word for the Singles (15:02) Final point... I hope your 'whys' are the types that help you stay married. Don't forget to rate, review and subscribe to this podcast.Connect with us on Instagram and YouTube @nkmaduforo.  ‘Who stole my dream marriage?’ is the title of today’s solo episode. Many of us wake up to the reality that the marriage we have may not exactly match the marriage of our dreams. I start this episode by taking us back to the ‘Happily ever after’ dream that has been sold to us over the years by books, movies, and tv shows. From our childhood days, we all conjured up images of marriage some of which form part of the template for our dream marriages. For others, these images translate to expectations and the foundation on which the marriage is built. I paint the picture of this dream wedding in detail and elaborate on how we have been sold the concept of a problem-free marriage as these programmes focus more on the perfect wedding day as opposed to the ‘perfect’ marriage. The reality of marriage, however, is far away from these fantasies and can be jolting, to say the least. I acknowledge the impact this has had on some people and their reason for giving up on marriage which is one of my motivations for starting ‘How To Get Married And Stay Married’.I ask pertinent questions such as ·       Should we stop dreaming?·       Is marriage just a myth?Other highlights from this episode are♟️ The Lion King illustration (4:46)♟️ Picture perfect wedding day (5:47)♟️ Why I started ‘How To Get Married And Stay Married’ (6:09)♟️ My shattered dream (6:34)♟️ Adam and Eve’s dream marriage (7:00)♟️ Bridging the gap between fantasy and reality (11:00)On a final note... a marriage has two people in it so you can’t just dream alone.Don't forget to rate, review and subscribe to this podcast.Connect with us on Instagram and YouTube @nkmaduforo.
