* * RECORD STORE DAY | APRIL 20 | 8 AM * * Today on the show I’m sitting down with three legendary Harford County rock n’ rollers; Mr. Scott Lester, Benny Clough and John Amoriello. They are all accomplished singer-songwriters who have multiple successful albums under their belt and know how to entertain a room. From winning Maryland Music Awards to opening for national acts and festivals and everything in between, Scott, Benny and John have proven that becoming a professional musician is a long game, but an easy one to play when driven by an unquenchable passion to create.  I’m proud to call all these gentleman friends as much as peers and I couldn’t be happier to have them on the show. Join me in welcoming Scott Lester, Benny Clough and John Amoriello onto the Mouthful of Graffiti Podcast *LIVE* at Reb Records. Special thanks to: Double Groove Brewing, Vagabond Sandwich Company, Music Land Store, Heather Sipes - Baltimore Decal Gal, Black Eyed Suzie's, REB Records-MD & Caprichos Books
Today on the show I’m sitting down with a man who is the alleged son of none other than the King of Rock and Roll, Mr. Elvis Presley. From an early age he knew where his rhythm, blues and soul came from and on April 11th he’s bringing his high energy Elvis Presley tribute show, ‘For the Love of Elvis,’ to Havre de Grace’s own The STAR Centre. He’s on the brink of a musical renaissance, ready to release some new original music and he’s here today to talk about how his love of Elvis came to be, forging his own path in the footsteps of his legendary father and how he knows he’s none other than the son of Elvis Presley himself. I’m excited to have him on the show. Join me in welcoming Kenny Presley to the Mouthful of Graffiti Podcast.Special thanks to: Double Groove Brewing, Vagabond Sandwich Company, Music Land Store, Heather Sipes - Baltimore Decal Gal, Black Eyed Suzie's, REB Records-MD & Caprichos Books
Today on the show I’m sitting down with three of the Mid-Atlantic’s most soulful and talented, original singer-songwriters. All of these fine gentlemen have been on the show and bared their soul, but on this show, they’ve agreed to do it LIVE at Reb Records for the very first Mouthful of Graffiti LIVE. They are here to leave it all on the table. They are the next generation of visionary lads, longing for authenticity and heart over digital validation – each one of them reminding me of what I love about original music. I couldn’t be happier to be kicking it off with the stories behind the songs and their live performances. Join me in welcoming Ryan Betts, Ian McDermott & Matthew Battaglia to the Mouthful of Graffiti podcast LIVE at Reb Records.Special thanks to: Double Groove Brewing, Vagabond Sandwich Company, Music Land Store, Heather Sipes - Baltimore Decal Gal, Black Eyed Suzie's, REB Records-MD & Caprichos Books
Today on the show I’m sitting down with a man with a decorated Mid-Atlantic resume who has seemingly played with every local musician that has ever considered becoming a professional musician. He’s played in bands like Rosabella, Carbonstone, Lockemy and a lot more and is accepting now jobs. One thing that can’t be overstated is that when he’s involved, success follows.  When’s not hitting the skins, he’s hunting, spending time with his son and wife Jessica or finding other ways to make the world a better place. From what I’ve read and seen, he’s the “Salt of the Earth” that the Rolling Stones once sang about, so ‘Let’s drink [coffee] to the hardworking people.’ I’m excited to have him on the show. Today on the show I’m sitting down with two very talented cast members from Phoenix Festival Theater’s The SpongeBob Musical, Eric Bray and Lindsey Galicki. Both have an unquenchable passion for live theater and a resume a mile long. They can morph into their roles as if they were born to be the characters they embody. Seamlessly tackling role after role, sometimes juggling multiple productions at once, they’re always up for the challenge and able leave it all on the stage. In the case of Eric, I’ve watched his tireless dedication and growth over the years and know when he’s involved it’s going to be a performance to remember. And, from Bombalurina, to the ‘Quintet’ in Sweeney Todd, to Tarzan, Lindsey Galicki is diverse and versed in her theater background and has proven she can tackle it all.  I’m excited to have them both on the show. Join me in welcoming, Eric Bray and Lindsey Galicki to the Mouthful of Graffiti Podcast.
Today on the show I’m sitting down with BJ Kerwin. He’s a craftsman, maker of ‘Awesome handmade furniture for awesomer people,’ with Industrial Imperfections, a talented drummer, for local greats, The Last Year and 90’s alternative rock heroes, Candlebox, a coffee enthusiast and enough personality to make the seaport sailor blush.  Through the lens of social media, I’ve always felt an unspoken kinship with BJ and think I know enough about him to know that we’re going to have a lot of fun today and would likely be kicked off a terrestrial radio station in about 20 seconds. He’s got a musical resume a mile long. Join me in welcoming, mad man, rock n’ roller, lover of all the good things in life and birthday boy, Mr. BJ Kerwin to the Mouthful of Graffiti Podcast!Candlebox Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/album/5tUJZ21PJj3SinhyroHCsG?si=KkyWyz74R9CJWkThjAjDJwSpecial thanks to: Double Groove Brewing, Vagabond Sandwich Company, Music Land Store, Heather Sipes - Baltimore Decal Gal, Black Eyed Suzie's, REB Records-MD & Caprichos Books
Today on the show I’m sitting down with a Harford County folk rock Americana legend, Mr. Shane Grimm. From founding member of the wildly successful 90’s alternative cover act Everwatt to original band, The Country Devils, to his ambitious new amalgamation project, First Lights, Shane has proven time and time again why art will live on long after the body is gone. With an active schedule and immense catalog, you’ve probably heard and seen Shane, his beard and Tom Stoessel playing the bars, breweries and theaters from Baltimore through the Appalachian Mountain region.   That last part I ripped straight from the First Lights website, but needless to say, Shane’s a seasoned player with a lot of soul and talent. Without further ado, join me in welcoming singing-songwriter, guitarist, vocalist and all-around good dude, Shane Grimm, to the Mouthful of Graffiti podcast. First Lights: https://open.spotify.com/artist/67CsxeV0G9nWeh3yA7O64v?si=Wcvw8feLQl-iSG0MPbLfKASpecial thanks to: Double Groove Brewing, Vagabond Sandwich Company, Music Land Store, Heather Sipes - Baltimore Decal Gal, Black Eyed Suzie's, REB Records-MD & Caprichos Books
Today on the show I’m sitting down with the mastermind behind the viral sensation, “Taste the Biscuit” and the producer, writer and creator of the movie that spawned it all, Chickens in the Shadow. Also in the shadows, Vincent Gargiulo is somewhat of a dreamer whose brand of music is comedic, theatrical, zany and fitting for a Broadway spectacle. I was introduced to Vincent by way of my previous guests, Tom Shaw and Estelle Piper of “Taste the Biscuit” fame and quickly realized the extent of the mad mind behind it all. He’s a master of short films and has covered everything from the journey of a hopeless local band to writing a loose parody of Disney’s Fantasia, called ‘Fantastic.’ His other works include ‘Deluth is Horrible,’ ‘KNFR From 7:00 – 7:30,’ ‘The Muppetless Movie,’ ‘I Am Jesus Christ,’ and more. Vincent is a cornucopia of creative content and I’m thrilled to have him on the show. Today on the show I’m sitting down with the viral sensation best known for their hit song, “Taste the Biscuit”. What you may not know about Toasters ‘n’ Moose is the story behind this quirky thrift shop jam and just how much really went into making this tasty pastry. From acting instructor at the Synergy Theater in Berkely, California to carving out a living as a professional musician for 40 years, this dynamic duo knows how to put on a show and, just as Toasters so eloquently put in the movie, Chickens in the Shadows, ‘It’s funny because it’s unexpected and doesn’t make any sense.’ That’s exactly what got them here today. Join me in welcoming my newest Facebook friends and all-around great entertainers, Toasters and Moose to the Mouthful of Graffiti podcast!Toasters 'n' Moose: https://open.spotify.com/artist/2Rs1fUrki8kq5UlpTtspK3?si=uG0_tH0LRq6BEt3bWF2bIgSpecial thanks to: Double Groove Brewing, Vagabond Sandwich Company, Music Land Store, Heather Sipes - Baltimore Decal Gal, Black Eyed Suzie's, REB Records-MD & Caprichos Books
Today on the show I’m sitting down with another powerhouse vocalist from the Mid-Atlantic touring alternative rock group that calls itself Any Given Sin.  His name is Victor Ritchie and he’s here today to talk about their new album ‘War Within.’  Their music takes the inner turmoil and trappings of the human spirit and provides a audio soundtrack to our Earthly years – an escape hatch from madness that we’re forced to traverse on any given day.  They’re hitting the road in February to promote their unique brand of alternative rock n’ roll. Join me in welcoming the frontman of this 4-piece audio assault to the Mouthful of Graffiti podcast. Photo by: Wicked Photography by JessAny Given Sin (on Spotify): https://open.spotify.com/artist/1376cQHGVXyY9lSz0Wf900?si=Mb6aSRWwScyw_7r2pSVhpgSpecial thanks to: Double Groove Brewing, Vagabond Sandwich Company, Music Land Store, Heather Sipes - Baltimore Decal Gal, Black Eyed Suzie's, REB Records-MD & Caprichos Books
Today on the show I’m sitting down with the powerhouse vocalist, singer-songwriter and guitar-enthusiast of the successful alternative rock n’ roll group from Baltimore, Maryland, Rise Among Rivals, Mr. David Gascon. David has been kickin’ the Mid-Atlantic’s ass for decades and is here today to tell us his secret to keeping the fire lit and juices flowing. His catalog of hard rock bangers is extensive and his passion is undeniable. With his trademark laidback temperament, it would be hard to believe that David would have any ‘Rivals,’ but every band has it’s story and has traversed adversity. I’m happy to have the man himself in-studio today. Join me in welcoming Mr. David Gascon to the Mouthful of Graffiti podcast. Rise Among Rivals (on Spotify): https://open.spotify.com/artist/7rvECpJbxYWkELAqGQcpyw?si=pBFRIbzXRdG9PL706d97zQSpecial thanks to: Double Groove Brewing, Vagabond Sandwich Company, Music Land Store, Heather Sipes - Baltimore Decal Gal, Black Eyed Suzie's, REB Records-MD & Caprichos Books
Today on the show I’m sitting down with the eclectic, alternative rock n’ roller who calls himself Johnny Manchild. The Big Takeover magazine puts him somewhere between Billie Joe Armstrong and Frank Sinatra, but that’s only if we’re to forget about Frank Zappa and Mike Patton. Johnny Manchild and The Poor Bastards are a multi-genre ensemble founded by Johnny himself, who handles the compositions, production, vocals and keyboards, while his glorious band of misfits, affectionately known as the “Poor Bastards” provide a backdrop to his zany musical stylings. Simply put, Johnny’s charming presence and infectious songs have made him quite successful, totaling over twenty million streams to date. I have him on the phone, so join me in welcome Johnny Manchild to the Mouthful of Graffiti podcast! Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/artist/5RZXyiWgZrpxbKfxY4MP0w?si=nujnanxUSlu1wLe1qU61jASpecial thanks to: Double Groove Brewing, Vagabond Sandwich Company, Music Land Store, Heather Sipes - Baltimore Decal Gal, Black Eyed Suzie's, REB Records-MD & Caprichos Books
Today on the show I’m sitting down with singer-songwriter, pianist and artist, Ainsley Rice McGray. Ainsely is able to communicate deep emotion, by diving right into her soul and pulling out the most uncomfortable feelings, kickin’ or screaming. Her music is as mysterious, heartfelt and powerful as Ainsley herself. As a fellow artist who lives their life on stage, she is her canvas as much as the art itself, just trying to make sense of this thing we call life. Her talent has made her an award winning artist and I couldn’t be happier to have her on the show. Today on the show I’m sitting down with the guitarist and bassist from one of Baltimore’s own pioneering alternative rock n’ roll bands, Bootleggers & Baptists.   John Morgan and Stephen Berchielli have forged a path in the fuzzy-folk genre – a genre I may be just now creating – because it sums of their raw, 90’s, groove-based, jam rock sound to a tee; a kitchen sink of creativity with a bluesy foundation that’s their very own.  They’re here to promote a slice of their new album, Aside and I couldn’t be happier to have them onto the show. Join me in welcoming John Morgan and Stephen Berchielli to the Mouthful of Graffiti podcast. Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/artist/3eFihHi1s4BaxibWmuqzDA?si=y6W_4YuZSJ2xJwfA9ExtmwSpecial thanks to: Double Groove Brewing, Vagabond Sandwich Company, Music Land Store, Heather Sipes - Baltimore Decal Gal, Black Eyed Suzie's, REB Records-MD & Caprichos Books
With projects like E. Joseph and the Phantom Heart, E. Joseph and the Sparrows, The Rescue Party and more, Edward Neenan is a creative and musical lifer – it’s in his heart, his bones and, more importantly, his post-punk and pop soul.Ed has an almost trademark style, like the happy marriage of Elvis Costello and Brian Setzer, and he’s been making a lot of waves in the local cover circuit over the past few years. But, he’s not just a musician, he’s got a background in marketing and broadcasting. Join me in welcoming local good guy, Mr. Edward J. Unless you’ve been living under a ‘3rd Rock From The Sun’-sized heavenly rock, then you’ve probably seen Ian McDermott performing at your local pub, brewery, restaurant or Mid-Atlantic special event.  The aforementioned sitcom was included because it’s an NBC property, much like The Voice, which Ian McDermott will be featured on in their upcoming season. His warm, rich, timber is like organic syrup on your already perfectly spiced flavored pancakes. Ian sings the blues like an old soul and performs with a certain unmistakable star-quality. I recently watched him perform at the Fall Equinox Festival at Alecraft Brewery and immediately wanted to get him on the show. Join me in welcoming Ian McDermott to the Mouthful of Graffiti podcast. Special thanks to: Double Groove Brewing, Vagabond Sandwich Company, Music Land Store, Heather Sipes - Baltimore Decal Gal, Black Eyed Suzie's, REB Records-MD & Caprichos Books
Since 2016, Dan Houtz and Vagabond Sandwich Company have been hosting the annual Sandwich Stock to support Band Together. Dan called in to discuss what we can expect at the event on 10/7/2023. Get out and check out all of the great bands from 12 - 7 PM.
Tory Vasquez is the singer, songwriter and guitarist for the Baltimore-based alternative rock n’ roll outfit, Go On Red. Not to be mistaken for a certain male enhancement product on the market, Go On Red has a homed in grunge and punk thing going on that’s uniquely and authentically their own and it’s getting quite the rise out of the local music scene. They’ve been performing around the Mid-Atlantic for the past decade and makin’ waves everywhere they go. On thing is certain, Go On Red is charting their own course and making sure everyone is takin’ notice. Whether he’s sweetenin’ up the room with his Pineapple Band or jazzin’ things up with The Cardinal Pursuit, one thing is for certain, Cooper Wade has a magnetism that can’t be ignored. He’s young  singer, songwriter and guitarist with a passion for classic rock, smooth rhythms and, apparently, collective fruit. You aren’t likely to find him in the produce aisle of your local grocery store, but you can find him at just about any bar or club in Harford or the surrounding counties [belting it out]. He instantly caught my ear at the Vagabond Sandwich Company Open Mic and I had to get him on.
