Dr. Chathan Sarabu is a clinical assistant professor in pediatrics at Stanford School of Medicine. In addition to being a practicing pediatrician, Chathan is also a director of clinical informatics at a healthcare start up called ShareCare. Chathan studied landscape architecture in college and incorporates those skills into his medical career. Join us as Chathan describes the landscape of his own career and the path that got him there.
Dr. Benjamin Schwartz has had an interesting professional journey.  After graduating from med school, Dr. Schwartz realized that his true passion was in the arts and decided to pursue a career in drawing and cartooning. This pivot paid off as he is now a full time cartoonist for the New Yorker. In addition to being a cartoonist, Benjamin is a lecturer at Columbia University’s narrative medicine program, as well as the social media content producer for the medical school’s Department of Surgery. Join us as we reflect on Benjamin’s nontraditional course and how he blends his two worlds together. 
Dr. C. Michael Gibson, is an interventional cardiologist, researcher & educator. He is the CEO of the non-profit Baim and PERFUSE research institutes at Harvard Medical School which have led over 1,000 studies and published 3,000 manuscripts in peer review literature. For many years standing, Dr. Gibson was ranked as one of the world's most highly cited authors in all of science in the past decade by Thomson Reuters. Dr. Gibson invented measures of coronary blood flow that are widely used today, known as the TIMI myocardial perfusion grade.  Dr. Gibson founded WikiDoc.org and WikiPatient.org , which are widely viewed open source textbooks of medicine. Dr. Gibson did his internship, residency and chief residency at the Brigham & Women's Hospital and his cardiology fellowship at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center both at Harvard Medical School.Even though Dr. Gibson's resume is one that seemingly could not be completed in even two lifetimes,  he adds to that a title of an accomplished painter. He was largely influenced by his mother, who was an artist. He has been self taught most of his life, but did attend art school while in Boston. Dr. Gibson had a one man show at University of New Mexico Health Sciences Center where 22 works displayed and he was selected as one of 50 artists in a juried exhibit for the inaugural Monterey Film Festival to name just a few from his long list of accolades. Wole Olosunde was born and raised in Brooklyn to Nigerian immigrant parents. He graduated high school at the young age of 16 and obtained his bachelor’s  degree in nursing at the University of Buffalo. He now practices as an emergency department and trauma nurse. In addition to medicine, Wole has a deep passion for design and fashion. Given his devotion to both fields, it led him to create his fashion brand called Against Medical Advice (AMA)- again early in his career at the ripe age of 21. Join us as Wole tells us how his fascination with the human body contributes to his design style.
Drs. Poorvi and Abe are practicing physicians in Atlanta, Georgia. Poorvi practices internal medicine and Abe is a radiologist. Together they founded their company Herbs and Kettle, where they sell authentic indian tea. Their passion for tea stemmed from their visits to their home country of India. They developed relationships with tea farmers in different regions of India and select single batch, single origin teas. Dr. Rashmi Schramm is a family physician who has been in practice for 23 years. Stemming from her own struggle with health issues, Rashmi turned to meditation for relief. Given the power she saw with self care, Rashmi incorporated this into her medical practice. She eventually founded her company Optimal Wellness, in which she provides meditation and life coaching. Rashmi is certified in Ayurveda, meditation,  yoga, and integrative health and wellness. Join us as she discusses the importance of wellness and her journey of that discovery. 
Dr. Roshan Sethi is a radiation oncologist practicing in Boston, Massachusetts. In addition to medicine, writing has always been a passion for Roshan. He turned that passion into a lucrative position initially as a medical consultant for TV shows then eventually into screenwriting. He co-created the Fox show “The Resident.”  His other writing credits include “Black Box” and “Code Black.” He also recently added director to his resume as he both co-wrote and directed the movie 7 Days, a film about a couple in quarantine during the COVID 19 lockdown. Dr. Chip Thomas, known as jetsonorama in the art world, is a trained family medicine physician. Originally from North Carolina, Chip went to Meharry Medical College in Tennessee. Chip has worked between Monument Valley and the Grand Canyon on the Navajo nation since 1987. He was only supposed to stay for four years, but was drawn to the region and now finds himself still there 30 plus years later. In addition to being a physician, Chip is also a photographer, artist and activist. He coordinates the Painted Desert Project which is a community building project that is a constellation of murals across the Navajo Nation reflecting the rich history of the Navajo people. He was also one of a select number of artists to be chosen by the United Nations to recognize the 75th anniversary of the UN’s founding. And while he’s creating all of this acclaimed art, he continues to practice medicine and takes care of generations of family on the Navajo Nation. Join us in our season 1 finale with Chip and learn how he builds community, trust and wellness through his art and establishes the bond between murals and medicine. 
Dr. Kandice Marchant is a hematopathologist and the former Chair of the Pathology and Laboratory Medicine Institute at Cleveland Clinic. She earned her masters and PhD degrees in macromolecular science and her MD degree from Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio. Beyond the microscope, Kandice’s other passion is cheese-making. Kandice was always a lover of cheese and that love was further cultivated when she met her husband, originally from England. Through their travels in the UK and abroad she was introduced to different artisanal cheeses. She completed a course in artisan cheesemaking in Sterling College Vermont. She was inspired by traditional European approaches to cheese making and due to her background developed scientific techniques to put her own spin on the process. She now has grown her passion to a busy cheesemaking and retail business called Marchant Manor Cheese. Join us as Kandice tells us her journey from physician to fromager.
Dr. Vanesa Karamanian is the Senior Director of Program Strategy and Integration at Health Promotion Council in Philadelphia. Her professional background includes more than 20 years of national and international experience in public health, health care and research across multiple disciplines including health behaviors, access and utilization of clinical care, and the influence of socioeconomic and environmental conditions.Vanesa received her Medical Degree in Buenos Aires, Argentina and a Master in Public Health with Global Health focus from the University of Pennsylvania. She is also an Adjunct Faculty at Thomas Jefferson University where she teaches in the Master in Public Health program.When Vanesa is not working to promote health for the wellbeing of the public she’s promoting food in a sleek way. She works as a food stylist and food photographer. She photographs foods for restaurants, magazines and food companies, and posts her photographs on her Instagram page to reach a wider audience. Join us as she tells us how she empowers her voice through photography and food and learn her recipe for success.
Dr. Matthew Wetscler wears many hats. Not only is he a board certified emergency medicine physician but also an artist, a former professional athlete, and most recently a CEO and co-founder of Plume. Plume is a virtual trans-healthcare service program in which patients can obtain gender-affirming care directly from their smartphones. But Matthew has lived more than one life. Prior to co-founding this innovative company, Matthew was involved in a harrowing accident in 2017 where he broke his neck while surfing and was paralyzed from the neck down. His recovery included painting in which he was able to retrain his body and thankfully recover much of his mobility. As an undergrad, Matthew studied fine arts, and as soon as Matthew could hold a brush during his rehabilitation he started painting again. Matthew has had exhibitions throughout San Francisco, including at Stanford University, Mcloughlin Gallery, and the Great Highway Gallery, as well as exhibitions in Boston and Seattle.Matthew also works as a motivational speaker where he talks about his remarkable recovery and the resilience of the human spirit. His paintings have been described as “strength and energy pushing forward.” Join us as we discuss Matthew’s artistic endeavors and his current venture and learn about that awe-inspiring strength that propelled him beyond physical limits.
Dr. Mike Natter is a native of New York City.  Mike grew up on the Upper West Side in Manhattan and was surrounded by all things cultural, which he ascribes his initial creative influences to. Though Mike is dedicated to the medical field, he has always been drawn to that creative world.  He studied both studio art as well as neuropsychology at Skidmore College. It was there where he began to recognize overlapping themes between art and science. Mike continued his medical career and graduated from Sidney Kimmel Medical College in Philadelphia and is currently an Endocrinology fellow in New York City. Diagnosed as a Type I Diabetic at the age of 9, Mike also has the unique perspective of both patient and physician and has dedicated his training to the care of those who share his disease. But when he's not running around the hospital, his tools switch from stethoscope to stencil. Mike is an accomplished illustrator and artist.  His work has been featured in the Philadelphia Inquirer Newspaper as well as the Annals of Internal Medicine, amongst other publications. Mike continues to draw and publish. He shares his work on social media, reaching a vast audience- both medical and non.  Listen in as we flip through Mike's sketchbook with him.
Dr. Dustin Cummings is originally from Michigan. He did his undergrad and medical school at the University of Michigan. He currently is a bariatric and acute care surgeon practicing in New York City. When he’s not in the operating room, he trades his scalpel for a script. Dustin is talented science fiction novelist. He published the first book in his trilogy called Exiles of a Gilded Moon Volume One: Empire’s Wake published by Shadow Spark Publishing in November 2020. His second book is due in September 2021. Join us as Dustin guides us through the fantastical world he created. 
Dr. Cecilia Crisanti is originally from Argentina. She graduated from Medical School at the University of Buenos Aires in 2002. She then moved to the US in 2003 where she completed surgical residency training in Pittsburgh and clinical research fellowship in Pittsburgh. She then switched gears into the Basic Science Research world at the University of Pennsylvania. Influenced by her exposure to community outreach, she completed family medicine training in Erie, Pennsylvania. Currently, Dr. Crisanti is a faculty member at Bellevue Hospital Center. In 2018, Dr. Crisanti started Soto- a line of skin care products. Dr. Crisanti is dedicated to clean beauty as all her products are organic, non hormone disruptor ingredients and no preservatives. Listen in as we go through her journey from clinic to cleansers. 
In this episode, we interview artist and nurse Nate Lewis. Nate was born and raised in Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania. He earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing from Virginia Commonwealth University, and practiced critical-care nursing in DC-area hospitals for nine years. Nate first started drawing in 2010 during his critical care orientation training. His artistry has only grown since then. His work has been exhibited in  The California African American Museum,  The Yale Center for British Art, The Armory Show, and the Smithsonian Institution Traveling Exhibition Services just to name a few. Nate’s work is in the public collections of the Baltimore Museum of Art, The Blanton Museum, the Studio Museum in Harlem, Grinnell College Museum of Art and 21c Museum Hotels. Much of Nate’s work stems from his medical training as he was influenced, as he says, by the rhythms of people’s lives. Nate lives in New York City, where he continues to explore that rhythm through his art. In this episode we talk to Dr. John Sconzo. John is an  Italian American originally from New York city.  He grew up in Brooklyn, attended Columbia University medical school, and then completed his anesthesiology residency at The University of Virginia Medical Center in Charlottesville. His medical career spans over 20 years. John now lives in  the southern Adirondacks in upstate New York with his family.  John has traveled all over the world - Spain to Japan, South Africa, Italy, India, Ireland, Mexico, Chile — he loves nothing more than to criss-cross the globe in search of great culinary and cultural experiences. That eventually led him to meet his friend and business partner Charles Grabitzky, with whom he founded Rascal and Thorn  in 2015.Rascal and Thorn is a global travel company that specializes in custom gastronomic and beverage tours.  Their amazing portfolio includes, to name a few, a week-long trip to Barcelona exploring the legacy of  elBulli culinary scene, a maple distillery & brewery tour of Ireland, a whiskey tours of Scotland and Japan, and a full culinary and gastronomy trip to Oaxaca in Mexico where the group dives head first into Oaxaca’s traditional and fine dining cuisine, its celebrated Mezcal, and the arts and crafts of that fascinating region.John defines taking a passion project and making it into a fruitful and successful side career while still maintaining balance and success in medicine. Dr. Michelle Quirk is a board certified pediatrician in Philadelphia. Michelle completed her medical school training at Penn state and her pediatric residency at Georgetown. Off duty, Michelle trades her white coat for running gear and sneakers. Michelle is a passionate and dedicated running coach and the founder of the company Mindful Marathon. She started Mindful Marathon after developing a deep passion for running as a form of improving her mental and physical health. Her mission includes helping her clients prioritize their well-being through fitness and embrace the pursuit whether through a 5K run or a full marathon. Join us as we learn about  Michelle’s journey and go around the track with her.
