The Gibraltar Heritage Trust is excited to launch the first in a new product range of Placemats and Coasters focusing on elements of Gibraltar’s architectural heritage. Working with local artist Beatrice Garcia, the project has focused on the tiles typically found within Gibraltar’s entrance doorways, or portónes. This year marks the 40th anniversary of the Falklands War and three of our podcasts look at the 65 hour conversion of the SS Uganda into a hospital ship and the work carried out at HM Dockyard. Throughout the war a young Gibraltarian Michael Sanchez decided he would keep a diary of the events. His first entry was the day of the invasion 2nd April 1982. The S.S. Uganda sailed from no. 2 dock at 9 a.m. on Monday 19th April 1982. A special plaque paying tribute to the dockyard workers involved in the task has been organised by the Gibraltar Heritage Trust and the Friends of Gibraltar Heritage.
