Description

We love a good story. And who doesn’t? But have you ever thought about how a good story can do the most difficult of things; change a heart? That’s power! Our hypothesis is that a good story gets this power from a mysterious thing called TRUTH. And the reason TRUTH resonates with us is because it’s something that’s literally a part of us; something imbedded deep within us. With each podcast we’ll test this by taking a look at you favorites in cinema, music, television, literature, and wherever story is told. We’ll peel back the layers to get at the heart; Where There’s a Story.

Matthew  9: 9-13, 18-26 - Wow!  What a story!  But do we understand what is really going on?  We're given the key...  "Go and learn (figure out) what this means: I desire mercy, not sacrifice."  Let's figure it out together.
It's Pentecost.  But really, what is Pentecost?  Tim unpacks his Sunday sermon to help us understand more through the lens of other stories.  Prepare to be disoriented.
Did you see the Super Bowl?  How about the commercials?  Tim and Troy take a humorous deep dive into what some of the biggest companies in the world are pitching, and how we might better understand the 'idea' they want us to believe.   It's a strangely familiar sales pitch.
Be a "fly" on the wall with Tim, Troy, and friends Michael, Scott, and Mike as they they discuss U2 frontman Bono's new memoir Surrender.  What is it to be "in the world, but not of it" and how does one of the biggest rock stars in the world show us how?
Tim and Troy highlight the stories of transcendence experienced by extreme adventure sports athletes in the new National Geographic series Edge of the Unknown with Jimmy Chin.  Free Solo and beyond...  "Don't be afraid."
It's almost Halloween.  Whose up for some scary stories?  Tim and Troy aren't exactly experts in horror - but we have a friend who is.  We welcome to the podcast author Jacob Moses to help us better understand, and maybe even better appreciate the genre of horror as a method of story telling.  What truths are conveyed and why does there always seems to be an unrelenting villain who keeps coming back again and again?  There's Truth in it!
Put on your headphones and grab a peanut butter and banana sandwich.  Tim and Troy talk today about the new film Elvis by Bas Luhrmann, revival, and some amazing parallels between Elvis and the biblical story of Samson.  Each teaches us something about the other.  Without a doubt, God chooses to work with some pretty interesting and flawed characters.
Pay attention!  Tim and Troy jump into the realm of multiverse cinema with the latest film by Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert (a.k.a Daniels) Everything Everywhere All At Once.  Laundry, taxes, kung fu, faith, and the trinity...  It's all there in the multiverse.
If you're a golf fan, maybe you caught it?  The number 1 golfer in the world and recent Masters Champion shared some wisdom about identity via his personal story in a post tournament press conference.  Tim and Troy welcome resident rock 'n roll enthusiast and U2 connoisseur Eric to share in the discussion and add further insights found in U2 songs on the same topic.  Understanding our true identity can free us.
Did you miss 2022 Oscars?  Likely you caught at least a portion of it.  There was a very LOUD message that evening.  But there was also a very quiet one as a film highlighting the power of family and community took home the award for Best Picture amidst all of the noise.  What can we learn from Coda and that infamous night at the Oscars.
In this episode Tim and Troy welcome back special guest and "friend of the podcast" Michael to discuss Anthony Doerr's latest novel Cloud Cuckoo Land.  The novel, a story about the power of story, is an illustration of wisdom vs. knowledge, the power of false narratives, and the even greater power of story and the truth within.
Watch out!  It's episode 13...  Unlucky?  Join Tim and Troy to find out as they discuss the latest Netflix hit Don't Look Up.  What do we really mean when we speak of science, data, fact or truth.  What does it take to open our eyes and ears to Truth?  You got this.
All art forms have the ability to convey stories, and comedy is no exception.  Tim and Troy discuss the role of good comedy in society, what offends us, and how we can rise above our sensitivity through greater focus outside ourselves.  What other podcast could combine material from Dave Chappelle, Bishop Barron, Flannery O'Connor, Jesus, and Seinfeld all in one episode?
Join Tim and Troy in the inaugural Where There's a Story... Christmas special.  This episode is chalked full of all the Christmas sentiment you could ever want, and more.  And that's their point.  Why is it that the Christmas season brings out such sentimentality?  They explore the Frank Capra classic "It's a Wonderful Life," the biblical Christmas story, and little story narrated by Tim that will leave you thinking.  Merry Christmas.
Join Tim and Troy as they take a closer look at one of the most popular stories being told in the world today - Squid Game.  What can we learn from the "Alpha and the Omega?"

Tim and Troy dive into the classic tale of Cinderella and Amazon's most recent retelling staring Camila Cabello.  What is it about this classic centuries old tale that resonates and what is the impact of a few seemingly small thematic tweaks?
Tim and Troy explore our human nature to always be searching for more.  This search sometimes takes us to "bad" story - story that might touch something within us, but doesn't quite fulfill.  Why do we sometimes settle?  And what are we looking for?
Tim and Troy dive into the 2019 feature film A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood starring Tom Hanks, the 2018 documentary Won't You Be My Neighbor, and the 2003 book The World According to Mister Rogers - Important Things to Remember.  Our lives tell a story for others to see.  Mr. Rogers story was one NOT about himself, but about loving his neighbor.  And EVERYONE was his neighbor.
