At age twelve, the same year his pitching lost his team the opportunity at the world series, Justin Schenk's hip shattered into five pieces.Soon after, his other hip needed surgery. Over the next four years he was in and out of hospitals for surgeries spending half that time on crutches or in a wheelchair. Those years sucked. But they were the training ground that would ultimately turn Justin into the man he is today. Years ago Luke DePron, a Weight Loss and Transformation Coach, took transformation photos of himself for a Huffington Post article. Since then, supplement companies have stolen and recycled his photos as "proof" of their product.But there's one itsy bitsy little problem: the photos were fake!For the article, Luke took a photo of himself looking scruffy, sad, and out of shape. Three hours later after hitting the gym and getting ready for some glam shots, he took his "after" photos. Balance in your life is an overhyped myth.If you're chasing perfect balance, you've found the fast track to the hamster wheel of disappointment. You'll be working on that mission the rest of your life.If, however, you're looking for more work life harmony, you'll find it when you pay attention to your investments. When I say investments, I'm talking about time, money, relationship capital etc. All those things that continually put effort into and have the opportunity to grow and thrive over time.If you're choosing to invest heavily in a business venture, and neglect to invest in family, health, your spiritual life, and your finances, you may wake up one day to find many of those areas bankrupt. Choosing a timeframe of intense investment in certain areas might be a better strategy.If you're launching a business, taking some of your time you may have allocated towards family might be a smart play in the short term.
