Description

Former MLB Pitcher and investor Christian Bergman interviews various guests from both the professional baseball industry and real estate world. Christian formed his multifamily real estate company Mulligan Valley Capital in 2020 after wrapping up a 10-year professional career between the Rockies and Mariners. Since he has the unique distinction of actually having been in their shoes, he decided to make it his mission to provide both current and former players with the education and awareness of different investing strategies.

2021 World Series Champion Tyler Matzek (IG: @tamatzek , Twitter: @TylerMatzek) and I spent a couple weeks in the Virgin Islands recently and sat down to talk a little bit about his journey. We played together from 2012 to 2016 with the Colorado Rockies. We made our MLB debuts within 2 days of each other in 2014, and the future was bright. However, the next season he developed the "yips" and was almost completely unable to throw a baseball. He contemplated retiring from the game, but his...
Geoff and I talk about all the positive things that have happened since he started working with me in my multifamily operation. Entrepreneurs often want to do everything themselves, but eventually they need help if they want to grow.
I sat down with another former teammate of mine, Charlie Ruiz, to talk about his career path and how he transitioned out of baseball after an abbreviated minor league career. It certainly wasn't a straight line for him and was difficult, but he has found his calling and passion in teaching others how to become the best version of themselves in business and life. You can check out his website at https://www.clrconnection.com/ and connect on LinkedIn at https://www.linkedin.com/in/charles-ruiz/
In this episode I sit down with one of my favorite teammates, former MLB outfielder Ian Miller. He and I played together in Tacoma in 2017 and 2018, and we spent a lot of our downtime talking about some basic financial concepts like how to build your credit score up. The interest he took way back then eventually led him into his post playing career in wealth management services, and he also just achieved a major milestone by buying his first house!
Today I talk with a new Clubhouse member Garrett Frechette - he was the Giants 5th round draft pick in 2019 and has already navigated an interesting start to his career by having a season interrupted by the pandemic. He and I talk about his experience being drafted out of high school and what it's been like so far making his way through the minor leagues. He's also very interested in real estate and has already done a good amount in his young career, so I'm excited to see where he is in anoth...
In this episode I chat with my old teammate Dallas Tarleton about his journey from getting drafted out of college, to playing 6 years in the minor leagues, and making the transition out of the game and into the mortgage industry. Dallas was a catcher who was used to be the captain on the field, and now uses the same mentality to run a mortgage team. He's also getting started in the real estate investing space and has lots of tips for those who are just getting started!
In this episode, my good friend and former teammate Brandon Barnes talk about his journey up through the minor leagues, getting to the big leagues, and even playing overseas in Korea! If there's one word I'd use to describe Brandon, it's grinder! He was always a hard-nosed player and is now applying those skills to his new career as a real estate agent in Idaho. This episode is full of great nuggets about dealing with adversity and transitioning to a new career.
On this episode, I chat with my buddy and former teammate Justin Miller, who just wrapped up a 13 year career that saw him spend time with the Rangers, Tigers, Rockies, Angels, Nationals, Blue Jays, Reds, and Cardinals. He and I played together from 2014 - 2016 with the Rockies, and we talk a lot about his career path and how it pretty much never goes like you think it will. If you want to hear some good stories about life behind the scenes of a pro baseball player, this is the ep...
In this episode I'm joined by my friend and former teammate Ryon Healy. Ryon is a veteran of 9 professional seasons with parts of 5 years in the Major Leagues between the A's, Mariners, and Brewers. He has followed a very similar path as I did in real estate so far, and actually has done some things better than I did. We talk about how some of his single family investments as well as a limited partnership (passive investor) deal he did on an Amazon warehouse where he made 60...
Jesse Quidachay is a homebuilder and developer based in my old stomping grounds of Tacoma, Washington. Jesse and I got connected through Ryan Pineda's Future Flipper mastermind group, and I had a great time talking with him about how he is providing affordable housing to the working class community in that area. He drops a lot of good nuggets about how to optimize your business by forming strategic relationships with other companies in the area. You can check him out on Instagram at @jessthabu...
Tony and Dakota and I were in Las Vegas for the Future Flipper real estate mastermind event and decided to sit down and talk about their success in 2021 and their goals moving forward. Tony and Dakota formed LTD Property group about 3 years ago, and now that they're both working full time in the business, they did 56 wholesales and flips in 2021! We talk about how they scaled up their business and why their partnership works so well. They also talk about how they were buying...
Max Gonzales is a former VP of Acquisitions for a large commercial real estate company and has over 17 years of experience in the industry. After realizing that he wasn't learning any new skills on the corporate side, Max decided to start his own company and do his own deals. He and I have been working together for about a year and he is a seemingly endless source of knowledge and experience! You can check out his company at www.geometricre.com.Music from Uppbeat (free ...
Pat Light and I were teammates from 2017-2018 when we were with the Tacoma Rainiers. The initial thing that brought us together was a shared love of utilizing the airport lounges every chance we got - an extreme luxury in the life of a minor league player. We rarely discussed baseball in the lounge, and it turned out that he and I both had some very entrepreneurial ideas about what we wanted to do after baseball. We cover a lot of the similarities between buying restaurants and apartment buil...
In this episode, Alex Camacho and I talk about how he went from living in his parents' basement after making some poor financial decisions to building a seven figure flipping business while living the lifestyle of his dreams in Hawaii. Alex and I have very different backgrounds but he and I could go on for hours (and we did!) about the power of mindset, clarity, and taking consistent action.
In this episode, I talk with my partner Geoff Yazzetta about our busy weekend at Ryan Pineda's mastermind event, what we learned, and why they are so important to grow your business.I have been a member of Ryan's All-Star coaching program for a year and a half now. It was originally intended for people who want to flip houses. Even though I flipped one house and decided to never do it again, I am very active in the group and still continue to get value from others each and every w...
In this episode, my good friend Geoff Yazzetta and I talk about the glaring failures of the current education system. We talk about how it doesn't teach you the information you'll really need as an adult, such as: - Credit cards- Buy vs. rent- Compound Interest- Mortgages- Income taxesGeoff and I have been friends since high school. He has experienced firsthand the effects of following the traditional life path: go to school, get a job, and contribute to your retirement accou...
Gordon Beckham and I were teammates in 2017 and 2018 with the Tacoma Rainiers and Seattle Mariners. He and I had very different backgrounds - Gordon was drafted in the 1st round and was in the big leagues within a year, while I was a late-round pick and spent time at every minor league level. While we were rooming together on the road in AAA, I was trying to figure out my scalability problem with my single-family rentals. Little did I know that Gordon was already invested in...
Ryan Bolanos and I met at Ryan Pineda's Future Flipper Mastermind event. We talk about his decision to invest in himself and join a mastermind group, and how his goal is to help his dad transition out of the day to day responsibilities of his auto parts business while he scales up his own flipping and wholesaling business. For those of you just getting started in investing, this is a great episode to hear the perspective of someone who is newer in the business, and I learned a lot talking to ...
