Do you ever feel stagnant and unfulfilled, like you aren't using all the gifts and talents God has given you? There was a time when today's guest Carrie Baker felt the same way. With the all-encompassing tasks of a working mom, she felt too busy managing to her primary responsibilities to tune in with herself and develop the skills to cultivate more for God.   Sometimes, we shy away from using our God-given talents because we are believing the enemy's lies about us. When we get to the place of searching and seeking, God calls us back to Himself and to our purpose. We must resist, however, the temptation to falsely conflate sewing the seeds of talent with striving. God desires for us to sew what He has entrusted us with. So whatever season of life you are in, whether you have been entrusted with much or with little, say YES to maximizing all you have for God's glory.  At the end of the day, we all desire to hear the words, "Well done, my good and faithful servant," from our Heavenly Father at the end of this life. Read the Parable of the Talents in Matthew 25:14-30. Marriage isn't just for mere companionship; God intends our marriages to thrive! However in the daily mundane, working on your marriage can be the last thing on your mind. This lack of intention can cause couples to slowly drift apart. Leslie and her husband have a marriage ministry called Heart Call, where they encourage couples to reconnect in God-honoring ways. Leslie strongly believes that as long as the Holy Spirit dwells within us, we will be consistently sanctified by the Holy Spirit to dissolve habits that may be harmful to our marriage. Since the sanctification process lasts a lifetime, it is simultaneously necessary to be understanding toward our spouse's weaknesses. Remember, the beauty of marriage is that our spouse may possess qualities that we do not, and vice versa. Our differences sharpen one another.   No task is more important than protecting your marriage. Tune in to hear more of Leslie's story and process! Why does it seem like when one thing goes wrong in our life, it creates a domino effect? In seasons of chaos and heartache, we often feel uprooted and confused. Jennie Denney went through such a season of pain in her life where isolation fostered the lie that she was alone and not good enough. She asserts that it is vital to allow God to sit with us in our pain to keep the lies of the enemy at bay, as well as to find one person--a spouse, a counselor, a friend--who will come alongside us to help process tumultuous emotions. Jennie asserts that often disappointment and discouragement go hand in hand in our lives. Psalm 121:1-2 was a source of encouragement for her as she leaned into the grief of derailed expectations, comforted that even if her circumstances were difficult, the God of the universe was with her. See 1 Kings 19:4, where the prophet Elijah found himself in a season of depression. Alone in the desert, the Lord rejuvenated Elijah with rest, spoke life into him, and sent him a companion in Elisha so Elijah would no longer be alone.  SUPPORT His Heartbeat through Crown of Beauty Internationalhttps://www.crownofbeautyinternational.com/donateCONNECT with His Heartbeat and Crown of Beauty InternationalWebsite// Facebook//InstagramEmail: crownofbeautyinternational@gmail.comConnect with Sue Corl's Instagram//Facebook// WebsitePurchase Sue's Transformational Bible Studies and Devotionals on Amazon!Sue Corl's best-selling books: Crown of Beauty Bible Study, Broken But Undefeated  Crown of Beauty International: EMPOWERING WOMEN AROUND THE WORLD WITH GOD'S TRUTH!
When we think of self-care, vacation and a day at the spa may come to mind. While these activities certainly soothe our bodies, what can we do to soothe the mind and soul? Do you struggle to take the time to process difficult emotions? In the hustle and bustle of daily life, it's easy to allow our inner thought life to fall to the wayside, eventually leading to burnout and despair.  Janice McWilliams is a therapist, spiritual director, writer and speaker. As a ministry leader with InterVarsity Christian Fellowship, she taught ministry skills addressing the value of life-balance. As she moved into spiritual direction and therapy, she began to consider the critical aspects of self-care so people in ministry can maintain their mental health and thrive. She shares how taking control of her thoughts and emotions has substantially improved her quality of life.  Janice's book, Restore My Soul, explores the four critical areas of self-care to help us bring our full emotional self to our relationship with God. This authenticity and mindfulness helps us to mitigate stress and establish a healthy, fulfilling rhythm.    Go to www.hormonesoupresource.com to download Janice's 50 Self-Care Ideas. Do you ever feel like you don't know how to help those who are brokenhearted? What should I say? Is there anything I can do to take away their pain? At times we may want to run away because we don't know what to do or say. Other times, we dive in with the person but feel overwhelmed by their pain.  After years of being a youth pastor, Brenda Seefeldt started Larger Story Virtual Church. She is a pastor, writer, wife, speaker, and mentor. Her book, I Wish I Could Take Away Your Pain: How to Be That Compassionate Friend, came out of her own story. She knew from an early age that she would not be able to have children. However, God has blessed her with four young boys to mentor. They came to her from troubled families when they were pre-teens. Sadly, two ended up in prison. This has been a growing experience for Brenda as many responded to her in hurtful ways. Brenda shares that quick responses of "I will pray for you"  or a short platitude without being more engaged in the person's story does not help. She shares what it means to healthily carry someone's pain.Brenda's life lessons of what she learned through painful seasons give us great enlightenment on how to walk through suffering and how to embrace others as they are in pain. What is one of the hardest transitions you have ever had? These can be challenging times. Loneliness. Feeling lost and insecure. Not having roots. Feeling stupid because you can't do things and get places. These are just some of the feelings we can have during times of transition. Our guest, Wendy Zahorjanski understands our struggles. As a missionary, she has had many transitions. She currently is a church planter in Serbia. At age 19, she moved to Kryzkstan, then to Hungary, and then to Serbia. Wendy shares many interesting stories of her experiences overseas. There are many transitions in our lives besides moving. Going to college, getting a job, getting married, having kids, empty nesting, new jobs, retiring, and other things. For Wendy, her most difficult time was when she moved to Serbia. It was a very lonely and insecure time. Here are some wise words from Wendy:During transitions, be kind to yourself. Let go of guilt and shame. It is common to be exhausted amid so many changes, so try to get more rest. Give yourself grace and tell yourself it is normal to go through the emotions and struggles you are having. Rely on God as He never changes. He is your rock and your anchor. Remind yourself that the Lord knows and understands you, even though others may not. Changes can help you let go of control and put God more in control. Wendy said, "Part of my personality was lost for a season. I normally am funny, but in another culture and language, I didn't have the language or cultural cues to be funny." Expect that it takes time to adjust to changes, so give yourself grace. It can take a long time to build a community, but push yourself to get out there. Don't compare your new friends with friends you used to have, or your old community with your new community. Friends in a new culture can be very different and it can take time to bond. Find a cultural insider with whom you can ask questions. Never criticize the culture with someone from that culture. Don't just hang out with friends from your own culture, but get to know the local culture. However, having a few friends who are from your background can be a place of safety, support, and comfort. Too bad there is not a spray we can use to make us divorce-proof! Marriage is not easy and requires a lot of work. However, by God's grace and following some practical counsel, we can have a more joyful, harmonious, and joyful marriage. Veronica Sutherland calls herself the divorce-proof coach from Jamaica. Listen to today's podcast to hear five of her practical strategies to have a healthy and happy marriage.  Veronica's marriage started out quite difficult. She realized that couples should NEVER think about or ponder divorce, but resolve to work through things and stay together. Veronica's Five Principles of Marriage:1. Put God first! Spend time with the Lord first. Make decisions, pray, and study the Word individually and with your spouse. 2. Forgive all hurts between each other. Also forgive all individuals, even from your past.  3. See marriage as a lifelong covenant. Expect hills and valleys but persevere through them.  Don't rush into marriage. Give it time to see if you are compatible and how you do in different situations.  4. Be comfortable with yourself. Do not go into a marriage with a false self. This is not your best. Be your authentic self. Get healing and freedom from lies. This will have a direct positive impact on your spouse and kids. Accept yourself and your spouse. Don't compare your spouse to others. 5. Love and respect each other. Are you needing some helpful counsel regarding your marriage? Veronica Williams is a Certified Life Coach who helps couples, churches, and organizations to have healthy relationships. In this episode, we talk about the differences between men and women and how to strengthen our marriages.  Veronica points out that men and women see things from different perspectives which can cause conflict. Good communication will help couples understand each other's perspectives. Typically, if a woman does not receive love from her husband, she will have trouble showing him respect. If a man does not receive respect from his wife, he often will not feel loved. This leads to a "crazy cycle" in their marriage. Couples need to learn to ask clarifying questions to be better listeners. Men usually want to fix the problem, but women often just want to be listened to and understood. The primary need of a woman is to feel beautiful and loved. The primary need of a man is to feel he is good enough. Couples need to spend time with each other so they can be emotionally connected and know each other's needs. This will also enhance the couple's intimate/sex life. Marriage requires vulnerability, but this can be harder for men. It is important to remove unrealistic expectations. This can be done if you more often communicate your needs to each other. It is vital to find things in common to help you enjoy each other. Veronica has several other great suggestions to help us have healthy marriages. What challenges do you face during your stage of life? Our guest this week, Lisa Anderson is the director of Boundless, a ministry of Focus on the Family. Boundless has a radio show, podcast, blog, and ministry outreach to encourage young adults (those in their 20's and 30's). 50% of the adult population are single adults. There are unique challenges that singles face. Many times singles feel isolated or are treated as second-class citizens. Lisa shares her own stories that help give you excellent tips to thrive as a single. She encourages singles who want to be married to be okay with grieving their singleness, but then take steps to build community. Use your gifts to serve and take initiative to care for others. Creatively find ways to meet other single and married women. Don't hesitate to spend time with older women to learn from them. Be honest with others who may not understand your needs. Millennials and Gen Zs have many unique challenges too: Getting into the housing market, experiencing the highest rate of mental health challenges, burnout, the comparison trap, and feelings of hopelessness. Young adult Christians have the challenge of being a minority in their beliefs and being judged by their peers. This challenge breeds authenticity and dedication in their faith. Lisa encourages those who are listening to lean into their community.  Listen to this podcast and find out ways to face and conquer your unique challenges. #125 Abandonment

#125 Abandonment

2024-01-2538:50

Have you ever felt the pain of rejection or abandonment? Whether from a friend, boyfriend, spouse, or parent, rejection can burn a deep wound in our souls that is hard to recover from. My guest, Kimberly Bell, experienced the trauma of her parents giving her away when she was only five years old. By the grace and mercy of God, He has brought her out of years of barely surviving to become a woman of God who is thriving! She is now an author, speaker, mentor, counselor, mother of five children, and grandmother of six grandchildren. Listen to this week’s podcast and see how God can heal us from our painful past of rejection and abandonment. From her earliest years, though her mother was very unkind to her, she fought to be loved and accepted by her. During an extremely violent altercation between her mother, sister, and father, Kim was sent to her aunt and uncle’s. Much to her sadness, she never returned to her parents. As Kimberly grew up, she always sought validation to be accepted by others. She kept searching for someone to fight for her but never got this. She became exhausted trying to get others’ love and support. After years of struggle, Kim finally began healing when she realized she was “worth it,” and deserving of love. Another part of Kim’s healing came when she accepted what happened to her.  She embraced her past and then surrendered her brokenness to God to rebuild her foundation. She went to the Scripture to let it restore her to walk in truth. God has the best for us, so we need to trust Him - even the painful things done to us. Abandonment leaves us with lies that we are not good enough, not worthy of love, and rejectable. Reject lies and accept the truth that we are worthy of being loved. Abandonment hurts. It is not an easy fix, but nothing is impossible with God. Her final word of encouragement is to tell us that though it is our natural tendency to blame ourselves for the rejection and abandonment of others, it is not our fault. Bible Verses: 2 Corinthians 5:17; Romans 8:28; Psalm 139:14SUPPORT His Heartbeat through Crown of Beauty Internationalhttps://www.crownofbeautyinternational.com/donateCONNECT with His Heartbeat and Crown of Beauty InternationalWebsite// Facebook//InstagramEmail: crownofbeautyinternational@gmail.comConnect with Sue Corl's Instagram//Facebook// WebsitePurchase Sue's Transformational Bible Studies and Devotionals on Amazon!Sue Corl's books: Crown of Beauty Bible Study, Broken But Undefeated,  Kimberly's Book on Amazon link: The Epitome of Kimmy: Accept & Embrace It AllKim’s WebsitePlease take the time to write us a review and share this episode with a friend!Crown of Beauty International: EMPOWERING WOMEN AROUND THE WORLD WITH GOD'S TRUTH!

Join us today to hear my interview with author, DeAnna Sanders. She worked for ten years in Indonesia helping women who have been sex trafficked or abused. With an estimate of 40 million women and children being sex trafficked every year, we ought to begin to take notice. DeAnna has traveled around the world seeing the unseen people. Her goal now is to open our eyes through her writing of her experiences overseas. It is so easy to get caught up in our troubles, but DeAnna challenges us to open our eyes to people all around our neighborhoods and the world with great needs. We can make a difference through prayer, giving, mission trips, and helping people around us with tangible needs. There are people right in our neighborhoods with great needs, but who feel unseen and uncared for. Ask the Lord who He would like you "to see." Pray about how you can help. Small acts of love and giving can change a family's lives.  SUPPORT His Heartbeat through Crown of Beauty Internationalhttps://www.crownofbeautyinternational.com/donateCONNECT with His Heartbeat and Crown of Beauty InternationalWebsite// Facebook//InstagramEmail: crownofbeautyinternational@gmail.comConnect with Sue Corl's Instagram//Facebook// WebsitePurchase Sue's Transformational Bible Studies and Devotionals on Amazon!Sue Corl's books: Crown of Beauty Bible Study, Broken But Undefeated,  DeAnna's Book on Amazon link: Unseen PeoplePlease take the time to write us a review and share this episode with a friend!Crown of Beauty International: EMPOWERING WOMEN AROUND THE WORLD WITH GOD'S TRUTH!
Our guest Rachael Lahela Marie Nayder is an author of the devotional book, Love Notes from Jesus, and a retreat facilitator. Her book can be found on Amazon under the author’s name, Rachael Marie. In a heavy, dark time of transition and isolation during COVID-19, Rachael reconnected with God. She was waking up with anxiety and depression and cried out to God, “If you are real, show yourself.” She already did yoga meditation, but it wasn’t with Jesus. But this time, Jesus flooded her with an overwhelming love and peace. Suddenly, she knew the voice and Presence was Jesus. She began to meditate with Jesus and every time His peace and Presence would fill her heart. For years, Rachael did yoga but that drew her into herself and an energy not from God. The similarity between yoga and meditation in Christ is they both allow stillness, focus, and listening. But rather than listening to only her body, she now listens to the Lord. She invites Jesus in! Now the Lord is the cornerstone of her life. She goes about living her life to help others know Him. Her focus is on loving God first, not self-love or outward things. At her retreats, Rachael takes everyone through the same steps she does in her meditation times. First, she spends time quietly in nature. Then, she gets her excess, “busy” energy out by moving her body. This is followed by sitting quietly and thinking about what is going on in her body and heart. She lets herself feel the emotions completely, even the negative energy, like anger or worry. But then, give all those emotions to God. The next step is to identify where in her body she is feeling the emotion. Oftentimes there is a disease or inflammation in that area. Ask the Lord to bring His energy of His love into the painful areas of your physical body or emotions. Let God fill you with His love and then share this healing energy of love with others. We are vehicles of God’s love on this planet.Soak in Rachael’s meditation method and then go spend time with God discovering His peace that surpasses understanding! Bible Verses: Philippians 4:6-7; Ephesians 3:14-19SUPPORT His Heartbeat through Crown of Beauty Internationalhttps://www.crownofbeautyinternational.com/donateCONNECT with His Heartbeat and Crown of Beauty InternationalWebsite// Facebook//InstagramEmail: crownofbeautyinternational@gmail.comConnect with Sue Corl's Instagram//Facebook// WebsitePurchase Sue's Transformational Bible Studies and Devotionals on Amazon!Sue Corl's books: Crown of Beauty Bible Study, Broken But Undefeated,Rachael’s website: https://rachaellahelamarie.com/ Rachael's Book on Amazon linkCrown of Beauty International: EMPOWERING WOMEN AROUND THE WORLD WITH GOD'S TRUTH!
Have you ever wondered why sometimes God heals and sometimes He doesn't? When your friend or family member is sick, do you question if you should ask God to heal them? Or even how to pray for healing? Our Canadian guest, a scholar and author, Dr. David Chotka has a lot to say about the topic of prayer and healing. He will share with us the five pathways to healing. His Doctorate in Spiritual Theology focused on discernment, so David gives us insight into understanding God's will as it pertains to healing. Grieving is such a difficult time, but our guest Darlene Larsen helps us learn how we can turn it from pain to purpose. Darlene is a grief and loss coach. She has personally been through so much grief from an abusive husband, divorce, and the death of several significant family members. Transitions also bring grief. It is so key to learn how to work through the grieving process and not get stuck. Darlene shares her struggles from a toxic relationship of emotional abuse. She gives us insight into how to get freedom from the lies and other bondage that resulted from the abuse. She shares how God's Word has brought freedom into her life.  She helps us to see that grief takes time. But she encourages us to gain a support team to help us through the grief.  We all need people who will speak truth to us. Healing comes as we ask the questions: Why am I alive? What is my purpose? God can redeem our pain to then use it to help others. Merry Christmas everyone! Today I will be giving a special Christmas message. We will dig into the story of Christ's birth in Luke 1-2. In this story, we will look at five of the characters who were waiting for the Messiah to come and their reactions when they were told "He is here!" Mary, Elizabeth, the shepherds, Simeon, and Anna each had different responses: excitement and faith, trust in God, curiosity, praise and worship, and proclamation to others. How about you? We know the Messiah will come again. In this episode, we will think about which character we most resemble. Are we preparing ourselves for the coming of the Lord? We will learn how Jesus tells us to prepare. We will be challenged to wait for the Lord with eagerness, and earnest obedience to live a life pleasing to the Lord - ready for our Bridegroom's arrival! Our Gen Z guest, Morgan McCarver, is an author and gifted ceramic artist. As a child, she suffered from scoliosis which ended her future dreams of being a dancer.  Her mom signed her up for a pottery class which became her love and profession.  Her back surgery moved her to depend on God and grow in her faith. She has written a book relating many aspects of pottery to believers' relationships with God. She went through a season of loneliness during Covid, when she moved to a new State. Once again, this trial drew her closer to the Lord. He used her work with clay to teach her many lessons and help her through the trials. Listen to this week’s podcast to see the many analogies and lessons we can learn from pottery about our walks with God:  Trusting in God’s timing, confidence in the Lord's plan for us, our uniqueness that God wants to use for His glory, and many other lessons.SUPPORT His Heartbeat through Crown of Beauty Internationalhttps://www.crownofbeautyinternational.com/donateCONNECT with His Heartbeat and Crown of Beauty InternationalWebsite// Facebook//InstagramEmail: crownofbeautyinternational@gmail.comConnect with Sue Corl's Instagram//WebsiteMorgan McCarver's  WebsiteMorgan 's Book: God the ArtistMorgan's InstagramPlease submit a Review of our podcast. 2023-12-0737:33

Our guest, Mirella Acebo is an author, actress, producer, storyteller, in the television world,  mother, and life coach. Raised by a single-mom immigrant, she saw a mom who was a godly, hardworking example of how to walk with God. But she never saw an example of a family with a husband, father, and siblings. After getting married, having two young children, and losing her mother to cancer, she struggled emotionally. She began to read books about how to raise children but wasn't finding in them how to deal with her emotions like fear, anxiety, and worry. As she grew emotionally through her study of the women of the Bible, she wanted to write a book to help Moms manage their emotions: feelings of failure, overwhelm, impatience, abandonment, control, loneliness, worry, and suffering. She beautifully integrates these lessons with various stories of women in the Bible. Be encouraged through Mirella and Sue's discussion of various tips to help us navigate our challenging emotions as mothers.  SUPPORT His Heartbeat through Crown of Beauty Internationalhttps://www.crownofbeautyinternational.com/donateCONNECT with His Heartbeat and Crown of Beauty InternationalWebsite// Facebook//InstagramEmail: crownofbeautyinternational@gmail.comConnect with Sue Corl's Instagram//WebsiteMirella Accebo's  WebsiteMirella 's Book on Amazon: SOS for the MomMirella's InstagramPlease submit a Review of our podcast. This week's guest, Kerry Resch will share with us how to develop leaders and come alongside people to empower them to become all that God designed them to be. Kerry has been a staff worker with Cru for many years, serving in several capacities of leadership, currently as a coaches' coach. She also is a mother of five children. I learned firsthand when she was my supervisor that she not only is a godly woman but also an inspiring and helpful coach who has guided many to have fruitful ministries. Kerry shares some principles of how to empower leaders to lead:1. "People don't care what you know until they know that you care."2. Find out how they are doing personally.3. What do they need in order to reach their goals?4. Listen to them.5. Show them appreciation.6. Be a cheerleader for them. 7. Align those you are leading to the vision and mission while giving them freedom in how to express this. 8. Know your people and adapt your leadership to each person's personality and what environment in which they best thrive; such as, How much structure or freedom do they need? What can you do to help yourself to grow as a leader?1. Dottie Small is a role model to all whom she knows. Her mindset is that you are never too old and it’s never too late to try new things and serve the Lord. In her 80’s, she looks 25 years younger and has the energy of a 50-year-old! At 82, she started a podcast, Thoughts to Ponder. She has been a blogger for years. The Lord spoke to her that there was more for her to do to reach people. Her heart is to advance the Kingdom and to encourage believers to understand what it means to be a new creation. When Dottie began to walk in the power of the Spirit, she saw great change in her life. The Spirit opened her understanding of the Bible. The Holy Spirit leads her as she writes her blogs and teaches on her podcast. Dottie encourages us to “stay in our lane.” Don’t try to do it all! Do one social media platform or one ministry at a time. Once you feel confident in that, then you can add another as God leads. We are never too young and never too old to serve God. Always have room in your life to help others in their faith and serve God no matter what your age. Run the race and throw off everything that hinders you so you can serve God and bring Him glory. Let our life align with the Word of God and hold on to Jesus. This will enable you to serve Him no matter if you are young or old. God enables us to do everything we are asked to do through His Spirit. God will bring people into your life to help you. Remind yourself that it is God who has a race for you, and He has plotted out the course. Thus, seek Him to see what path to take. And then depend on His wisdom and power to lead you. Dottie says, ‘We don’t retire, we just refire!” SUPPORT His Heartbeat through Crown of Beauty Internationalhttps://www.crownofbeautyinternational.com/donateCONNECT with His Heartbeat and Crown of Beauty InternationalWebsite// Facebook//InstagramEmail: crownofbeautyinternational@gmail.comConnect with Sue Corl's Instagram//WebsiteDottie Small's WebsiteDottie's Podcast: Thoughts to PonderBible Verses in the show:2 Timothy 1:6-7; Hebrews 12::1Please submit a Review of our podcast. We know that sex trafficking is a growing problem around the world, but there are so many facets that we don't understand about it. Emily Karc, founder of a non-profit, Learning to Live Beloved gives us deeper insights into the roots behind women who are sex trafficked. She is also the author of Dear Mama, a devotional for the weary mama's heart. Emily struggled with several unhealthy relationships with men, but through this, she began to explore the root of why she kept choosing harmful relationships. God healed the shame in her heart and the feelings of being unloved, not good enough, and unworthy. Through a coach, she was helped to see where her shame began, and how to accept God's forgiveness. Through soul care, inner healing, and speaking the truth to dispel the lies brought her freedom. Bondage and soul ties were broken. She was drawn to reach out to other women who live in bondage to shame. A common thread of women who have been sex trafficked is shame, rejection, and heartbreak, thus, she felt a calling to reach out to these women.Through her ministry, she helps the women see there is hope and forgiveness. She encourages them to let go of the shame and open their hearts to the depth of God's love. Most, if not all women who are sex trafficked did not choose this. Rather, the majority of the time, they have come from a childhood of being sexually abused. They then became very vulnerable and attract more abusive men. The traffickers often give them highly addictive drugs which puts them in a cycle of dependency to give sexual favors to pay for their drugs. Others are kidnapped at an early age and forced into the sex trade. It is hard for them to get free of their captors, and some feel so much shame that they don't feel they can return to their families. Some women get caught in the sex trade through social media.  Emily's nonprofit Provides housing and counseling for the women so they can get out of this lifestyle. Another way to help reduce sex trafficking is by raising awareness in our schools and churches.SUPPORT His Heartbeat through Crown of Beauty Internationalhttps://www.crownofbeautyinternational.com/donateCONNECT with His Heartbeat and Crown of Beauty InternationalWebsite// Facebook//InstagramEmail: crownofbeautyinternational@gmail.comConnect with Sue Corl's Instagram//WebsiteEmily Karc's  WebsiteLive Beloved Website Emily's Book on Amazon: Dear MamaEmily Karc' InstagramPlease submit a Review of our podcast.
