Description

Medistate is a new word that I created. It refers to taking action and pursuing the life you want to live. Medistating means living your life on purpose. Who are we? Why are we here? How do we take what we want to be and make it real? The idea behind the creation of, not only the word Medistate, but this podcast is to share peoples stories, new ideas and perspectives in a variety of ways so that we can all work towards becoming more of who we really want to be.

Dr. Erin shares her story about how she came to choose to do what she loves and love what she does.   Erin has been my Doc for over a decade and has helped realign my body and my mind.  We talk about some very practical ways to reconnect with our bodies to lighten the load on our minds and bring about balance and a sense of peace.
This week it is simple.  I am asking for your help and a bit of grace.I share my thoughts and ideas about an idea I heard on a podcast called Man Enough.  Compassion without Comprehension.   Their guest was a person named Alok.  Alok's idea about compassion without comprehension is simple and at the same time difficult.  You do not have to like someone or agree with someone or even respect them.  However, you do need to want them to be able to live a life free from violence and hate.Help comes from you taking the time to listen to and then unlearn the biases and prejudices that you hold onto.  The grace I am asking for is about me stumbling through uncomfortable feelings, confusing thoughts and language that I am still striving to understand.Look up Alok and the Man Enough podcast if you want to hear a conversation that goes deeper into the ideas around living in a world where we can have compassion without comprehension.Check out this short video about the tree that I mention in podcast!https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yhj8Tm0Te50
I met Annalisa through an online writing course that I was part of this past spring.  I am involved with writing a book and reached out to her to do a 1 hour consultation about what it takes to actually finish a book.    I will admit.... well I don't know what I will admit except that when I am ready to get serious and get my book finished and published, I will work with Annalisa.Check her out at www.datewiththemuse.com if you have a book inside you that needs to be written.Be well, be kind and remember to smile:)ME
I have been contemplating Thanksgiving for over a week now.  This episode is about that contemplation and the thoughts and feelings I have uncovered.  I share a little bit more of my story and how I am choosing to lead with the more intuitive heart centered part of myself.   One of my goals is to feel more and think less and when I do it leads me to a different place.  The place can be uncomfortable at first because I am not used to it but I know intuitively that it is better for me and will help me to live a life more in line with the one that I want.Be well, be kind and remember to smile:)ME
Many of us feel like we could do more to help the people that are closest to us not to mention the community at large.  Gary is no different.  However, he is doing more regardless of his underlying belief that it isn't enough.Gary's desire to be helpful was inspirational to me and that is why I reached out to him to share some of his story.  Gary reaches many people through his knowledge of solar power, however his big heart and focus on helping people live better lives is what they remember. You can find Gary at solarbus.org and at longtrailsolar.com and on FB at solar seed project where he shares his work in Haiti!
The dawn of a new day brings change with it each time.  Season 2 of Medistating: Living Life on Purpose brings growth and change as well.  As this podcast develops so does the feel of it and its direction.  There will still be some of the same aspects such as interviewing people that have great stories, sharing ideas and thoughts, humor and original music by ME.   Medistating will also include more episodes that question the words or phrases we use and how they may affect our goals of living the life we really want as well as interviews with individuals that have something to offer us.  My hope is that you will not only listen to find out what my next song will be but to gain information, skills and confidence to step into the world with more authenticity, peace and light.Be well, be kind and remember to smile:)ME

Meet Lauren:)  She consulted with many doctors, chiropractors, acupuncturists, neurosurgeons and more,  to help with her debilitating lower back pain that landed her in a wheelchair.    When she was out of options and hope she started to look for non medical reasons and cures for her pain.  That search led her down the road of her past and to the answers.   She discovered that her mind and body are intimately connected and that connection had been influencing her reality and therefore her life. Her story is remarkable and universal to us all to some degree.   I have included an excellent list of books below if you would like to learn more. You can also reach out to me at michael@medistate.us if you would like to learn more or if you would like help sifting through your past for clarity.Be well, be kind and remember to smile:) MEHealing Back Pain - Dr. John SarnoThe Body Keeps the Score - Bessel Van Der KolkThe Gifts of Imperfection and The Power of Vulnerability - Brené BrownPermission to Feel - Marc Brackett  (Mood Meter App is great!)Emotional Intelligence - Daniel Goleman How to Do the Work - Dr. Nicole LePera Adult Children of Emotionally Immature Parents - Lindsay GibsonRadical Acceptance - Tara BrachNonviolent Communication - Marshall RosenbergCurable Groups 12 Week BootcampMan's Search For Meaning - Vixtor FrankylMindsight the new science of personal transformation - Daniel SiegelThe Brain that Changes Itself - Norman DoidgeDaring Greatly - Brene BrownBreaking the Habit of Being Yourself - Joe DispenzaEvolve your Brain - Joe Dispenza
This is the audio from one of my YouTube videos ( found here if you are interested https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2OTLTp3h9pA&t=28s ) from a few years back.   I listen to it every once in a while as a reminder that I create so much of my life.    I hope that you find it useful and that my out of the box thinking offers a new perspective  for you to ponder.Once again, thank you for listening and for your support.  Be well, be kind and remember to smile:)ME
I asked Dwyer how old he was when he decided to sail from Washington State to Patagonia and how much sailing experience he had.  He said he was 25 and none.    Dwyer doesn't let what looks like it can't be done get in his way and I am happy he is on the side of sustainability, healing and the planet.  We need people like him to forge new paths and open our eyes and hearts to new possibilities.Check him out at dwyerhaney.com and on instagram  as dwyerhaney as well as bendingbirchhomestead.  You can also check out this link to get a look at the stoves that he makes  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D-k5VLAs82g.Have a great week and enjoy the show:)ME
I have learned a lot from my pets.  Mostly they have taught me and allowed me to be vulnerable and to lead with my heart.   It took a number of years to become aware of the gifts they offered me.  I have a few regrets, guilt and a little shame attached to my behavior toward them in the past.   I don't see them as pets or even  dogs anymore.  They are simply beings that I choose to be with and enjoy and laugh with.  This new perspective wasn't possible for me when I was stuck in my head and hiding from my emotions.    It is painful to say goodbye but if I choose to stay detached and minimize the pain of loss I am also choosing to miss out on the love and laughter.
Joe loves beans.   Not just to eat them but what they can do to save the planet.  At least his little corner of it.  His story is unique in the specifics and universal with the desire to become a better person and more aligned with what he really thinks he's here to do.  Going to college, discovering farming, and then the path to sustainability, healing, nourishing, justice and community brought him to beans.  Enjoy. You can support Joe by buying local through Vermont Bean Crafters https://www.vermontbeancrafters.com , All Souls Tortilleria https://www.allsoulsvt.com  and Taco Gordo https://www.tacogordovt.com .  You can also support his mission by taking care of the earth and helping where you can to create a community that is nurturing and just.

Anger

Anger creeps back into my life now and again, unlike in the past.  In the past, anger was an emotion that was more in control of me than I was of it.  I am much better at recognizing it now and using it for what it is.  Anger offers a jolt of energy and focus.  It helps me to have the courage and focus to either get something done or to set new boundaries or to communicate clearly.    I believe that I have come a long with with my relationship with my anger.  I feel it and see it for what it is, an opportunity for growth!  Yeah ME:)
Words Matter!   I take a look at Self Worth and what it means to me.   I hope it helps in what ever way it is supposed to:)ME
Marie Thomas created Our Community Cares Camp in Richmond Vermont.  She will be the first to tell you that she had no practical experience do this.  She simply saw a need and filled it.  Marie's huge heart, tireless dedication and relentless desire to help those in need was enough to create a lasting program in town that will have a positive affect not only for the children that attend the camp but for the community at large for years to come.Visit Ourcommunitycarescamp.org or email occcvermont@gmail.com if you would like to learn more or if you would like to help   Thank you for listening.  Be well and happy Medistating.
Scott Empie is a friend.  He can be very silly and very focused.  He can be very aloof and grounded.   Thoughtful and vulnerable.  We touch on all of these characteristics and have a great conversation.  I hope you enjoy it.  Thank you for listening and for your support:)MichaelFB Medistating with MichaelMedistate.usNeurohandyman@gmail.com
This week I am sharing a recording that I made a few years ago about how my past selves had been affecting my life in the present moment.  I believe that when we hold on to trauma, shame, guilt, embarrassment and anger for too long it becomes part of us.  When we spend too much time with those feelings that are connected to our past experiences  they begin to become our reality.  Once those feelings become familiar they find a home in our minds and become very difficult not only to shift but to even remember a life when we felt differently. The work is to identify those past selves that are influencing our choices and decisions and then find the courage to face and make the shift that we need.
Dean is "lucky" enough to combine what he loves and is passionate about with his career as a teacher.     Dean is one of those people that leaves you smiling and feeling good after you are around him.   I believe that we all have that potential.  When we are feeling higher vibrational emotions like joy, happiness, gratitude and love then others feel that coming from us.  It seems to be a good goal for us to pursue.  What do you think?Thank you for listening and for supporting the idea of Medistating.  You can find more about this topic at Medistate.us and can join us on Facebook in our Medistating with Michael group.Be well and happy Medistating!!
