Description

Unless you’ve had a baby or got married, women in their 30s are often forgotten - or at least, rarely celebrated. The Clock aims to find common ground between women and connect us through honest, relatable conversations. Journalist Charlotte Mortlock chats to women who have taken their lives in all sorts of bold directions in a bid to remind us that while your 30s are nuanced, exciting, humbling and fulfilling, it’s certainly not one size fits all.

Hannah Latham is a woman in her 30s who doesn’t want children, and she doesn’t need anyone to convince her otherwise. She leads a fulfilling and happy life and she thinks she’d be a great mum – but she has no desire to be a parent. In this episode Hannah and I discuss why saying that makes some people so uncomfortable. Hosted by journalist Charlotte Mortlock @larlmortlock
Keira Rumble, or Krumble as you may know her, has 365,000 Instagram followers. She shot to fame as an early day influencer as she shared her pictures of travel abroad and her love for food. But what sets her aside is that she then launched a number of incredible businesses, showing her ability to have her finger on the pulse and fill niches that reflect evolving consumer demand - whether its Beauty Bites collagen bars or Habitual Beauty skincare line. As well as being an influencer, she is also now respected entrepreneur - with one Beauty Bite bar sold every 15 seconds. We’ll talk about her success in this episode, but some years ago, Keira started sharing her very real fertility journey with her followers. Keira is pregnant and has one toddler, but she's had nine pregnancies. In this episode we discuss miscarriage, IVF, endometriosis and hyperemesis gravidarum.
Deciding to end a long term relationship is one of the hardest decisions you’ll ever make. It often feels like you’re too far down the rabbit hole to start again, or, like you’ll be going back to square one. Clare Todhunter and I were both news reporters for Sky when she started to question her long term relationship. I had two big break ups in my late 20s and am a big proponent for starting again. A year on from Clare’s break up, she speaks candidly about how she’s settled in to being single and how she and sees the break up as a huge step forward, not backwards. Host: Charlotte Mortlock @larlmortlock Interviewee: Clare Todhunter @claretodhunter

Author, radio presenter and columnist Sian Prior comes on to The Clock to discuss a life without children. This is episode starts at the end… You know that Sian doesn’t get what she desperately wants, which is a child.  Her latest book Childless: A Story of Freedom and Longing is beautifully written – but it is a confronting read for women in their 30s. Sian has an amazing career and a good life, but speaks openly about still having the void of never being a mother. Sian’s story is an important one to hear, and it's equally important to hear how she reimagined her life and found joy with a different plan.

Today's episode is with Artemis Greenwood. Arty and her partner have been married for seven years and trying for a baby for two. As we both acknowledge during the interview - we were sold a bit of a falsehood during sex ed in high school – that getting pregnant is SO easy it is almost contagious. Many women have realised it's often  incredibly intricate – and hard.  And just a bit of a trigger warning here – we are having a very candid conversation about miscarriage and there are some parts that are really graphic. Clare Stephens is the Executive Editor at Mamamia, a TikTok influencer, one of the quickest brains in the biz and the queen of cancel culture. Not in the way that she loves it, more so in the way that she hates it. She co-hosts a podcast called Cancelled and we speak about that in this episode. We also discuss what it's like being in a 12 year relationship without being engaged or having kids -- and the pressures that come with that.Guest: @Clare.StephenssHost: @LarlmortlockShow: @TheClockPodcastPre show rant: https://www.mamamia.com.au/cancelled-podcast/Get in touch: theclockpodcast@gmail.com

No matter how much we might panic in our 30s, the consensus is undoubtedly that they're better. You're better. In this episode we chat with Melissa Mason who has been a big wig dating and relationships writer for some of Australia's biggest publications. She's also a fantastic and celebrated podcaster. Mel did a post online about turning 36 that encapsulated a lot of the issues we're all struggling with. Mel and Charlotte have wide ranging conversations from the worst relationships we've had, to how who we are attracted to  has changed. We also speak about faux emotions, personal accountability and how it feels when your single friends get into relationships.Get in touch:@theclockpodcasttheclockpodcast@gmail.com@larlmortlock
After watching most of her friends meet their partners and settle down in their 30s, Sophie Bailey began to panic. Despite always wanting the traditional life of having a partner, children and the white picket fence home, Sophie wasn't as close to that dream as she thought she would be at this stage in her life. After suffering from poor mental health Sophie looked at her options pragmatically and decided to look into sperm donors. Sophie's son is now three years old and she's never been happier. In a year Tory Dart went from being heartbroken in Sydney to living out her lifelong dream working for the UN in Laos, in the middle of a pandemic. In this episode Charlotte Mortlock chats to her former roomie about the importance of making bold decisions, even when our brain tells us to play it safe. The pair also discuss how vital it is to surround yourself with likeminded women and to remember that sometimes soul destroying heartbreak is the best thing that will ever happen to you. Host: Charlotte Mortlock @larlmortlockEmail: theclockpodcast@gmail.com
If you’re married or in a relationship, it’s a nice idea to think you’ll be with that person forever. But reality is - half of us won’t. And women over 55 are one of the fastest-growing groups of homeless people. There are things you can be doing right now to add to your financial security which the 50 year-old version of yourself will thank you for.  This episode I speak with money and promotion guru Meggie Palmer, founder of Pep Talk Her, for some very easy tips and ideas on how to save, invest, get promoted, get a payrise - and ultimately close the pay gap. We all form schemas based on our experiences in childhood. Once established, they can be incredibly stubborn, and they’ll often dictate the type of relationships we’ll have in the future. The good news is, you can rewire your brain. This episode I am joined by two fantastic female psychologists. We discuss how schemas impact dating, relationships and parenting.  Host and show instagram: @LarlmortlockGet in touch: TheClockPodcast@gmail.comGuests: Dr Gemma Glastone and Dr Justine Corryhttps://theredflagproject.com/
Every bride will tell you they are well aware their pandemic wedding was nowhere near the worst thing that’s happened in the last two years. But that doesn’t mean it’s any less heartbreaking or insignificant. Emily Herbert was living in Wanaka in New Zealand with her Welsh fiancé, but traveling back to her home town near Tamworth in north west NSW to get married when the pandemic hit Australia. They bizarrely ended up stranded on her families property for the next 18 months and falling pregnant much sooner than they planned.Hosted and produced by Charlotte Mortlock - @LarlMortlockGet in touch: theclockpodcast@gmail.com
Jessie Stephens and I met around five years ago when I slid into her DMs. Since then she has gone on to publish a critically acclaimed first book, Heartsick, which encapsulates the rawness and pain of heartbreak. Jessie speaks candidly about how sometimes there can be a lack of sparkle in the creative process, and that doesn't necessarily mean it's a bad idea. We also discuss what it's like dating a dude seven years her junior (and her boss's son) + and how career success can sometimes be oddly deflating. Hosted by Charlotte Mortlock @larlmortlock

Dating in Your 30s

Dating can feel like a whole new world in your 30s - and that is what we’re exploring in today’s episode. Carrying past baggage into new relationships, cutting the crap and dating with intention, why ghosting is so common on dating apps and why your self esteem may be a huge part of why it hasn’t been working out….This episode I’m joined by dating expert and podcaster Jana Hocking and my best friend Hayely Olsson.
This episode is about starting all over again in yours 30s and discussing why society continues to frame divorce as a failure shrouded in shame, as oppose to an important chapter of our lives that shapes us into being the best version of ourselves. Emily Clark shares her journey.
