Description

The Give Back Pod is here to help bridge the gap between 'wanting to help' and 'knowing how to help'. Co-hosts Ben Oliver and Harvey Broadbent speak to founders and mentors from youth organisations across the UK about their journey to date, discuss the challenges and stereotypes faced by their members and chat 1-2-1 with the inspiring young people they work with. Sometimes trying to do the right thing can be easier said than done. Who can I help? How do I help? Is what I'm doing really helping? THE GIVE BACK POD will guide you in the right direction and provide 'positive practices' we can all make on a day-to-day basis to make the world a better place. Sponsored by purpose-driven ethical and sustainable clothing brand, Positive Outlook Clothing, this podcast is an extension of our company's heart. This is how we're giving back... how will you?

In this episode we talk to Lianne and Sue from a local support charity in our home town of Leamington Spa, Helping Hands Community Project. Along with a thought-provoking insight into stigmas and challenges surrounding vulnerable people within homelessness, we are dealt with some pretty hard-hitting truths and powerful anecdotes of their own personal stories. We are then joined by Maggie, a former member and now volunteer with the charity, that shares what it is really like living among those often forgotten sectors of society.+We discover just how close we all may be from homelessness, learn why we should be asking 'what's happened' rather than 'what's wrong', and how a compassionate ear and a nudge in the right direction may do much more than a sandwich and some loose change. If you have ever stopped and wondered how you could help those without a place to call home, you may find some answers you weren't expecting in this moving and meaningful episode of the Give Back Pod! *Disclaimer: This episode contains topics of a sensitive nature including substance abuse, criminality and bereavement.
In this episode we talk to Jordan Letts, the man at the helm of NSF, a charity pioneering support, development and inclusion projects for troubled youths across Northamptonshire. We dive into the wide range of programs provided by the foundation in the hope of inspiring, guiding and mentoring young members towards a more positive route in life. We are then joined by one of their apprentices, Tyrell - a 19 year old who’s  life has truly gone full circle; from suffering and struggling to fit in, to giving back to young members that now look up to him, both as a role model and a friend. +We discuss the negative side effects a ‘one box fits all’ approach to young people can cause and hear first-hand how a little extra time and care, can transform a troubled teen into an inspiring young adult. If you’re an educator or motivator and dare to do things differently, you will gain real insight and inspiration from an organisation breaking the mould and changing lives, in this episode of The Give Back Pod.
In this episode we speak to club co-ordinator Hannah and lead youth worker Leah from the Coventry Girls and Boys Club a new-age youth centre located in the heart of Coventry City. We delve deep into the modern-day challenges of misunderstood youths, city borough conflicts and the refreshing approach they take to empowering their members. Later we go on to speak 1-2-1 with 18 yr older Team Lead Hollie about growing up as a young woman in the 21st century. +Whether you’re a parent, youth worker, teacher or teen this episode gives an honest and eye-opening insight into the cares and concerns of young people we all could benefit from hearing. We truly believe by listening to this episode, it will bring you closer to the young people in your lives. So get ready to open your minds and fill up your hearts with this thought-provoking episode  of The Give Back Pod!
