As believers, we need to recognize a broader application of our sin nature beyond the physical realm.When we look at our Biblical Christian systematic theology as presented on Sunday mornings and discipleship classes, what is typically emphasized is our need to focus on the nature of God and Christ as presented in and through the Holy Spirit. In a constant battle with our personal sin nature, we are reminded to pray, read our Bibles, and fellowship with other believers as we repent of our sins and grow towards the Lord (sanctification). These are the most important aspects of the Christian life. However, this is not a complete picture of the obstacles to our spiritual walk. What is missing is a recognition of the influence and the need for protection from the evil side of the supernatural or Spiritual Realm. ConclusionThe six points below should always be part of our awareness of the potential for evil that exists all around us. We have an internal sin nature waging war against the Holy Spirit.There is external spiritual warfare, between angels, demons, and man.We need to be confident that the Bible confirms God wins the war between good and evil.To remain balanced, we need to be careful not to see demons under every rock but accept responsibility for our own actions.We can impact spiritual warfare within and outside of us through prayer, fellowship with believers, and the study of God’s word.We know God will win the war, but we need to be on guard that Satan can win many battles as we move through our lives. 1 Peter 5:8 – Be sober-minded; be watchful. God wants our attention, not our activity. He desires for us to focus on His presence more than our Christian projects. Take time out of your busy lives to seek the Lord for wisdom and communication, even if it means declining a potluck dinner, a nursery assignment, a finance committee meeting, or even a discipleship class.

If the antichrist was actually in the world today, his personality would be somewhat hidden and obscured by the need to gain power and influence at this stage in his ascendency. Once obtained, his real personality, as presented in the Bible, would then surface. However, systematically working through the verses from Scripture that refer to the coming antichrist, one can get a good sense of what to expect. The question to reflect on at this point in time is…Is there perhaps someone currently on Earth who most fits the attributes of the antichrist? ConclusionAs you skim back over the verses above and reflect on someone whom Christians applaud as a leader and even savior of America, is it possible that an individual appearing to fulfill these lofty goals is only supporting his own, private agenda? If there was such a man, should Christians rally around him, even at the risk of hurting our own testimony due to his hypocrisy? And finally, if there was such a man that begins to perform “great signs and wonders so as to lead astray… even the elect” (Matt. 24:24), should we really be offering our support under the “lesser of evils” dogma?Though much of this material would seem to be slanted toward a specific individual (details), sadly, many world political and industrial leaders would fit comfortably within these prophetic verses of Scripture. Consequently, the Bible makes it clear that as Christians we need to be watchful toward our surroundings and our worldly support (1 Thes. 5:4). For the Lord will ultimately come "like a thief in the night" (1 Thes. 5:2) and we need to be prepared (Matt. 25).So then let us not sleep, as others do, but let us keep awake and be sober. - 1 Thessalonians 5:6

I recently responded to a reader who stated that Christian preachers were calling for the execution of gay people.I am sure one can find extreme views such as this if we look hard enough. However, in most cases, the extremes on both sides of an issue are in the minority. But they do garner media attention and gaslight viewers into believing extreme positions are mainstream. It is important to look to the middle of the bell curve, rather than the vocal extremes when evaluating the popular direction on an issue, especially a divisive one. From the center of the bell curve, Christians don’t hate gay people, they don’t want to turn America into a Christofascist state, and most realize there are times when abortion is an appropriate medical need.

That is because so many Christians have lost their way theologically. Many who associated themselves within the boundaries of Christianity did so, not because of a love for God, but because it was where the “good” people hung out. Many are now disassociating themselves from true Biblical Christians as we have come under more social scrutiny for our unchanging beliefs. There is a set of core theological beliefs (here) that are both clear from Scripture, and necessary for salvation. They hinge around Rom 10:9 and Eph 2:8–9. As harsh as it may sound, Christians, or those who used to consider themselves Christians, who believe they are earning their way to Heaven by being good people, are sadly heading in the opposite direction… they are not Christians rooted in God’s word. Instead, they have been inoculated with dead Christianity.

Serving our Lord results from our salvation rather than an attempt to gain salvation.

For what partnership has righteousness with lawlessness? Or what fellowship has light with darkness?

Two bills are being discussed in the Canadian Parliament this month. It is important to note that each has a chilling effect on free speech in general and Christian freedoms in specifics. However, looking at them in a more unified way is enlightening, offering insight into both the direction of the country and the synergistic impact they would have if put into law simultaneously.Bill C-63 Civil Penalties for Hate Speech Earlier this week, Bill C-63 was debated in the Canadian Parliament (details here). If enacted, it would outlaw “Hate Speech”, now through civil (financial) penalties.  There already exists hate speech criminal laws on the books in Canada. However, if passed, this bill would add the ability for those who feel injured by the words of others to sue under less stringent civil guidelines. And, the definition of “Hate Speech” covered under the bill is “unavoidably subjective”. Specifically (detail here), C-63 would focus on the news media (both broadcast and social) in seven general areas.Content that sexually victimizes a child or revictimizes a survivor;Intimate content communicated without consent;Content that foments hatred;Content that incites violent extremism or terrorism;Content that incites violence;Content used to bully a child; andContent that induces a child to harm themselves.Civil penalties could be upwards of $50k, of which $20k would be paid directly to the “harmed” individual.  Some of these provisions serve the public interest on their surface. However, those that are not specifically targeted at child protection have an open-ended exposure to individual interpretations on terms such as "foments hatred" and "incites violence"Bill C-367 Removing Religious Text as a Defense This bill would remove specific protections from the Criminal Code of Canada (detail here) for those who are charged with hate speech and use sacred texts as a defense for their views. Of course, as noted above, the definition of “Hate Speech” is “very subjective”.The primary intent of this bill was to prohibit antisemitism by using the Bible. However, the general provisions of the bill could be broadened by the courts to include almost any Biblical theology as grounds for relief from Hate Speech laws. In the view of the author of a Christian Post article (detail here) on the subject of C-367, “Lawmakers in Canada are considering legislation which, if passed, could criminalize the act of quoting Scripture in defense of biblical marriage, sexuality and other Christian views.”ConclusionOne needs only to look to the pandemic to realize the impact of a loss of free speech in America. The definition of Hate speech varies based on the worldview of the individual making the claim. However, when we observe the country to our north adding civil prosecution into the mix and the Bible being potentially removed as a source of protection for those Christians who desire to both love their neighbor and share God’s commands, we are no longer living in a free society. While in the United States...Easter, a time of celebrating the resurrection of Jesus Christ…. Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! Some of us live a largely pain-free life and others, sadly, live in constant pain and suffering. Some have an abundance of resources at their command and others barely have the shirt on their back. Though arguably important during our life, in death, none of the above matters. In fact, because God's ways are above our ways (Isaiah 55:8), often those with less on earth will gain more in the beyond (James 2:5). If one truly believes a personal relationship with Jesus and, subsequently, serving God is more important than longevity in life... it should make a profound difference in our day-to-day priorities. 

Just the Editor's opinion… It’s one thing to be selling golden sneakers for $399 (here) while running for president. It’s another, stratospheric level of audacity to be pandering to cultural Christians by selling KJV Bibles for $60 (here), in the view of some, to help support his (some fair, some unfair) personal legal defense. Trump endorses the Bible by saying its, “The only Bible endorsed by President Trump!” and speaking directly on Truth Social, "I’m proud to endorse and encourage you to get this Bible." My view, respectfully, is that pride is ironically part of the problem with the endorsement.  One could not create a better scenario to build a straw man on the threat of Christian Nationalism than merging Trump selling Bibles. The former president thinks his foray into religious commercialism will ingratiate him with Christians. Believers are all now expected believe he must be born-again… for sure. And non-Christians now have a perfect example to point to in locking all Christians together under the banner of our mascot, Trump. This can’t help Biblical Christianity. One may choose to vote for the lesser of evils, and God can do anything, with anyone. One positive may be more Bibles put in the hands of seekers. However, this tightening of associations between Trump and Biblical Christians only serves to do damage to our attempts at evangelism, just as his reference of “Two” Corinthians 3:17 (here), while standing in front of St. John’s Church, was a warning to all who were listening. Of course the spin on this faux pas was, "that's the way they say it in England".
