Description

When it comes to race, the legacy of fashion is complicated. Black people have often been the tastemakers and the trendsetters, but never the standard for beauty or class...and we know that’s some bullsh*t. Join AndimaVerde, Isang and Chukwunwike in challenging the status quo, celebrating “The Culture'' within the fashion industry and saying who knew better than to come outside like that.

When we first launched Got This in Black? We stuck it to big brands, like Target and Moschino, for vague, unsubstantial and sometimes nonexistent commitments to Black consumers. Have they made some progress, maybe. But what we really want to get into this episode is the concept of intentionality and care in big brand and Black creative relationships. The bottom line: Team work makes the dream work. But how that dream is curated and executed is another thing. Big brands need dope Black creatives to infuse the sauce into the company that allows them to attract and maintain their customers. But how do you make sure you are properly paid and what rate should you be looking for? We talk about all that and more in our discussion with visual artist, Adrienne Gaither.Brands worn on this episode of Got This In Black? Zella FermaniFarai LondonCoogi Pyer MossFollow us: @GotThisInBlack on Instagram and Tiktok Email us: gothisinblack@gmail.com

Episode 8 - "Got Chic?"

As the great poet Radric Delantic Davis once said, “See when I ain't have no money I still had sauce. See….. if you don't got no sauce, then you lost. But you can also get lost in the sauce.” That was a whole word. From sauce, to drip, to being flat, style can be described using different lingo. What has not changed is that style is a foundational cornerstone of the fashion industry. In this episode we discuss fashion from the eye of a stylist with our guests Dejeuné and Kemi. We debunk the stereotype of what a stylist actually does, discuss dealing with delusional clients and speak to much more.
