This week we're talking about one of Rosey's childhood faves Three Men and a Baby. Spoiler alert, but Avery loved it too. It holds up and we get into why and how. Is it the charming combination of Tom Selleck, Ted Danson, and Michael Guttenberg? Is it the safe fatherly energy? Is it the fact that the woman ask for what they want? All of the above? We also discuss our reactions to Barbie, Avery's enjoyment of the Women's World Cup, and Rosey's new YouTube hole.In two weeks, we'll be back with Sister Act II.Things we talked aboutThree Men and a Baby - Roger Ebert ReviewSomehow, bogus big-screen sitcom Three Men And A Baby became the biggest hit of 1987Dave Portnoy Condemns Roe v. This week we’re revisiting the “ground breaking” Lizzie McGuire (the series, we didn’t get as far as the movie…) It brings up lots of memories of our own middle school shenanigans, as well as an extensive meditations on the post office. Fun times. Next week we’re taking a look at an 80s (cult?) classic Three Men and A Baby. This is another Rosey favorite, but new to Avery! We’re excited to get into it. We're talking about The Devil Wears Prada. And oh, 2006 fashion, why? We dive into workplace politics, clothing we don't understand, and how crazy we'd be if we were as rich as Miranda. Also, Rosey spills some tea from her own crazy assistant days. Meanwhile, Avery watched a bunch of masochistic men and Rosey studied endlessly. What we talked aboutAlexandra AneleWhere to watch Nancy Drew -  HBO Max/CWThe Bear - HuluTour de France Unchained - NetflixBarry - HBO MaxSign up for our newsletter at theriftpod.com. This week we’re covering the Robin Williams vehicle Mrs. Doubtfire. We discuss how to give and take in relationships, the legacy of the film regarding gender, how do films age, and transphobia. In what we’re watching, Rosey is fan-girling over Queer Eye and Avery, surprise surprise, is consuming more WWII content. Where to watch Queer Eye—NetflixWorld War II In Color—NetflixMindhunter—NetflixReality—HBOBased On A True Story—PeacockThe Mindy Project—HuluNever Have I Ever—NetflixTed Lasso—Apple TV+XO Kitty—NetflixGinny and Georgia—NetflixSign up for our newsletter at theriftpod.com. This week we're talking a look at Glow and reveling in all the Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling. It's a really interesting look at gender expression, sexual identity, body image, racial stereotypes, and overall sense of self. We get a bit personal and go on an existential journey, but don't worry, it's not too heavy. Aside from Glow, Avery's been watching YouTube and Rosey has been madly studying Anatomy. In three weeks (we're taking a few breaks this summer), we'll be back and talking about the classic Mrs. Doubtfire.Where to watch/read:Glow - NetflixThe Neighborhood - Paramount+Women of the Otherworld by Kelley ArmstrongThe Outlaws of Sherwood by Robin McKinleySign up for our newsletter at theriftpod.com. This week we're taking a SECOND look (because there's two of them!! get it) at the absolute classic that introduced one of our favorite actors to the world: The Parent Trap! This is Rosey's all-time childhood favorite, so you know we've got lots to say! Next week we're reviewing GLOW season one. If you haven't seen it, it's well worth the watch. It's time for our final week of month of Sandra! We are sad to see her go. We went out with a bang, with two real downers, but fun to talk about movies: Premonition and Bird Box. Premonition has a 6% on rotten tomatoes, so you can guess some our thoughts, but we have fun breaking it all down. Next week we're diving deep into the recent release Daisy Jones And The Six, trying to make sense of an adaptation we didn't understand but many people seemed to love. The Sandra stories continue. This week we're looking at Two Weeks Notice and 28 Days. They have nothing in common except Sandra and numbers in their titles. We talk about everything from toxic workplace "romance" to what really goes on in a rehab. We cheer and we jeer - these movies are conflicting. We've finished Daisy Jones and started Yellowjackets and we've got thoughts on both.Next week we'll finish up our month of Sandra on an odd downbeat with Premonition and Bird Box.Where to watch:28 Days - NetflixTwo Weeks Notice - HBOYellowjackets - Hulu/ShowtimeDaisy Jones & the Six - AmazonSign up for our newsletter at theriftpod.com. This week we're doubling down for our second week of Sandra month, with the not-creepy-at-all While You Were Sleeping and the sort-of-creepy-but-mostly-confusing Practical Magic. We dive deep into both--endearing stalkers, quirky mishaps, feminist overtones, and more. Next week join us for our continuing tour de Sandra when we talk about 2 Weeks Notice and 28 Days. This week we start our month of Sandra! We kick it off with Speed (1994) and The Lake House (2006) aka we kick it off with Keanu Reeves. We break them both down, despite enjoying one much more than the other, and get into flying busses, magical mailboxes, and the cringiest kisses we've ever seen. In addition to Sandra, Avery watched Narcos, Rosey watched Ted Lasso, and we both played a lot of Sims.Next week we continue with Sandra and will be talking about While You Were Sleeping and Practical Magic.Things we talked about:Keanu Reeves & Sandra Bullock on EllenHow Did This Get Made? - The Lake HouseKeanu Speed InterviewWhat My Bones Know - Stephane FooWhere to watch:Speed - AmazonThe Lake House - AmazonNarcos - NetflixTed Lasso - Apple TVSign up for our newsletter at theriftpod.com. This week we're rocking out on Mike White/Jack Black's School of Rock! Spoiler alert: We love it. But also, kids need to learn math. This week we're talking about Mr. & Mrs. Smith. Spoiler alert, Rosey is not a fan. We dive into their fascinating romantic dynamic, how they're both incredible and awful at their jobs, and the plausibility of some of those action sequences. Then we go on a rant about the atrocity that is the Daisy Jones and the Six show on Amazon before talking about some reality tv shows Rosey is watching to avoid her feelings and our feelings about episode 8 of The Last of Us.Next week we'll be talking about the delightful School of Rock. What we discussedFive to Four PodcastBrad Pitt looks like his girlfriendsWhere to watchMr. & Mrs. Smith - AmazonDaisy Jones and the Six - Amazon Prime Next in Fashion - NetflixThe Reluctant Traveler with Eugene Levy - AppleSign up for our newsletter at theriftpod.com. This week we're diving deep into Netflix's Ginny & Georgia, and we've got a guest along for the ride! Our old college friend Taylor has joined to help us explore all the ways this show defies expectations, and is misunderstood by some. This week we dive into She's the Man. We have a hilariously good time going back to 2006 and reveling in the joy that is Amanda Bynes. It brings up way more questions about the gender and sexuality spectrums than we originally noticed, and we're here for... most of it. Rosey binged watched a show in one night yet didn't like it very much and Avery watched You and a random French movie.Next week we have a guest joining us to talk about the incredible Ginny & Georgia. What we discussedChanning Tatum Is Rooting for Amanda BynesBreak the Internet: Amanda, Please (Amanda's profile in Paper)Seth and Lizzo Go Day DrinkingWhere to watchShe's the Man - Paramount+The Flatshare - YouTubeYou - NetflixThe Last of Us - HBO MaxSign up for our newsletter at theriftpod.com. For what we're watching, Rosey catches us up on The Teen Wolf movie and Avery's actually listening to books! Remember books? Next week join us for a deep dive on the British show Misfits. This week we're looking at 1989's When Harry Met Sally. Avery was so enthralled, she didn't take a single note, but we've still got a lot to say. It's a delightful journey and we're pleasantly surprised that this movie holds up pretty well. We were both left charmed and full of hope and who doesn't need that?Next week we're looking at the award winning and award nominated Everything Everywhere All At Once.Things we discussed30 Delightful Behind-the-Scenes Facts About When Harry Met SallyThe Mindy Kaling Backlash Has Lost All Nuance'The Flatshare': US Release Window, Trailer, Cast, and Everything We Know So FarWhere to watchWhen Harry Met Sally - AmazonShrinking - Apple TVThe Last of Us - HBO MaxWednesday - NetflixThat 90s Show - NetflixHow I Met Your Father - HuluSign up for our newsletter at theriftpod.com. This week we're talking Brendan Frasier bod (and the sacrifices required for said bod) and other stuff related to 1997's George of the Jungle. There's zany hijinks and surprisingly dark and/or woke subtext. Join us on our romp through the urban jungle of San Francisco! We're back! This week we're reflecting on what we watched in 2022. Avery and Rosey both made lists of their favorites from the year (lists below). We also recorded our disappointments but had some technical difficulties. That list is also below. We also take a peek at what's coming in 2023 that we're excited about. SPOILER ALERT for the shows on the "best of" lists below.Next week we'll be talking about the 1997 George of the Jungle (Disney+) with the crushable Brendan Fraser and Leslie Mann.Things we discussedJennifer Coolidge's Acceptance SpeechThe Summer I Turned Pretty PlaylistAFI’s Top 10 Films and TV of 2022 James Cameron on SmartlessNetflix Deletes ‘13 Reasons Why’ Suicide SceneAvery's 2022 Best Of ListThe White Lotus -- HBO MaxFresh -- HuluThe Summer I Turned Pretty -- AmazonLife and Beth -- HuluRosey's 2022 Best Of ListYellowjackets -- ShowtimeThe Summer I Turned Pretty -- AmazonAbbott Elementary -- Hulu (NBC)Insecure Season 5 -- HBO Max2023 Things We're Excited AboutTed Lasso Season 3 -- Apple TV (back in spring 2023)Yellowjackets Season 2 -- Showtime (back on 3/24)How I Met Your Father -- Hulu (back on 2/15)That 90s Show -- Netflix (premieres 1/19)Shrinking -- Apple TVTiny Beautiful Things -- HuluOur 2022 DisappointmentsReservation Dogs Season 2Sex Lives of College Girls Season 2The Flight Attendant Season 2Single Drunk FemaleWhere to WatchGirls -- HBO MaxShe Said -- PeacockModern Family -- HuluThe Menu -- HBO MaxGlass Onion -- NetflixGinny & Georgia -- NetflixSign up for our newsletter at theriftpod.com. This week we're looking at the holiday hit, Home Alone. Avery's never seen it and Rosey's seen it many times so it's a fun look at the genius of the movie and all the parts that don't make sense.
