Just a quick little episode to talk about a mainstay creature in Filipino scary stories. The manananggal was one of the creatures that I would hear about many times when I was younger and I still remember these stories to this day.
Ah the month of February, the time when love is said to be in the air. And what a great time to talk about some names associated with love in the Philippine pantheon. Dian Masalanta is the goddess of love in ancient Filipino folklore, and Maria Makiling is said to be what Dian Masalanta evolved into as oral tradition passed down their stories. Let's talk about the goddess who loved humanity, and the fairy forest nymph who guards Mt. Makiling in Laguna, Philippines.
On this episode, I'll talk about Bathala. Bathala is considered the highest-ranking god of the ancient Tagalog people. He is also known as “may kapal sa lahat” or the creator of everything. He is basically the head honcho in the Tagalog myths. You'll also hear about "The First Coconut Tree and the Creation of Man" and "Bakunawa and the Seven Moons".
Let's take a look at some of the Creation myths that have been told in the Philippines. We'll hear about three different stories that originate from different regions and we'll come to know the similarities and differences between the them.
Just a little intro episode about what the podcast is about and what to expect in coming episodes. Come take a listen, and I hope you join me on this little adventure :)
