Until about 10 years ago, I took my health for granted, eating all the wrong foods. The more I learned, the more my awareness grew of the huge impact of what you eat and drink on  your skin, your energy, how fast you age, your confidence, your moods and therefore your career, relationships and all other aspects of your life! Some people CAN eat rubbish (or 'diet foods') and stay slim. Loves to run, lift, write, fish and bowl.Being free in your body, not worrying about fitting into chairs, crossing your legs or being uncomfortable fitting into booths or areas where once I squeezed or wedged myself into, being able to wear whatever you like, feeling confident in your skin, and having the energy to GENUINELY enjoy your life.  My only regret is not starting soon after my two mini strokes but I learned many lessons over the years I was heavy - and I know they will serve me as I move forward in my new and improved healthier lifestyle. I know that I will NEVER go back to my old life of feeling tired and broken down. our first interview was back February 2022 the overdue catch up ! When I was a tiny baby child, I had a pet tree named Umbe. Now that I'm grown and Umbe is dead, I pay my respects by buying half-sheet paper towels and publicly shaming people who don't recycle. I was born and raised in rural Northwestern Wisconsin where everyone knew the color of everyone else's bathroom towels. I went to college at Bradly University in Peoria, IL - a town best known for a strip club called Big Al's. Nobody knows what happened to Al, but I bet he's relatively happy. I'm an ultra runner, writer (obviously), and recovered from an eating disorder. I enjoy learning, laughter, and human connection. So Much more this time around !  My name is Silvana Ghoussain, I grew up in western Sydney in the Seventies and Eighties this is where the story of my colourful and at times turbulent life began.I was born in 1972 in Sydney women’s Hospital the daughter of Lebanese migrants living in Marrickville and later moving to Guildford western Sydney was the start of a life that would be full of challenges. As my parent’s spoke little English, Arabic was my first spoken language and with no family here in Australia and my father working two jobs to support his family. School would be my first challenge as first I had to break down the communication barrier as my English was still very poor and in time I would attend ESL (English Speech Language School).Then there was also the battle growing up torn between two cultures, strict Lebanese Maronite culture and the Australian culture that in the 70s’ and 80’ was sometimes harsh and racial. As I grew so did my love of sport something frowned upon by my father. Sport and fitness would become my passion and my salvation throughout my life from the annual school athletic carnival through to my success in women’s bodybuilding to breaking into the tough and male dominated sport of Boxing to become a coach and mentor. Through this there were also issues with my health, running my own business and other major life challenging issues.These were only some of the challenges I faced through my life, challenges faced by people all over the world every day. The way we deal with these challenges defines us as individuals and I would like to share mine in the hope that this may also inspire, help or even open the eyes of other’s that they are not alone in the world, we all have things we go through, it’s how you deal with it that count’s.My story is directed at overcoming adversity and obstacle’s and achieving your end goals, a story to be read and digested by all. Anyone that might be feeling demotivated or wanting to read a real story about a real life and overcoming challenges.Life can take a different turn; it’s up to you how you drive that journey. It’s up to you to make that impact in your life. Sharon Bannister aged now 52.I’ve always struggled with my weight, was always the chubby kid .I have always exercised but not until recently did I educate myself about what types of exercises did what and the huge impact food makes.After the birth of my 2nd child I took up running. It fitted in better with working full time and having young children . Like a lot of us I thought burning calories was the way forward . I started off getting to 5k slowly then by the time was 18 months old I ran the London marathon in a time of 4 hrs 38. I now have 10 marathons under my belt and my PB time is 3 hrs 52 mins . I have run countless half marathons and an ultra plus numerous other events involving running both on and off road. I was the Captain of one of the biggest running clubs in Essex for 5 1/2 years .Injury took me to take up cycling , I’m not the best cyclist but I’ve cycled/run from Nairn in Scotland to Loch Leven in under 14 hours.I then took on my biggest challenge cycling from lands end to John o Groats in 9 days. The plan was to do this is my 50th year but Covid pushed it back a year . By this time I had taken up weight training .All this cardio has a detrimental affect on gaining muscle . If you don’t fuel and replenish carb stores correctly your body will basically use your muscles for energy , causing depletionNow I do hardly any cardio , the running has stopped, I love to cycle but pick n choose when it fits.I took up weight around 6 years ago , I saw the changes in my body , then stepped it up by adding nutrition. By then I had found the best coach , Kelly SEPHTON . I had no interest in stepping on stage but, as anyone who knows me knows…I need and love a challenge .So Nov 20 the decision was made to compete in 2021. The training and diet started and my first comp was July 21, then August and 2 in November . Hi I'm Gem! I wanted to set up this page as I've recently discovered a passion for running.👟 It took a life changing event to get me here after losing my Mum to breast cancer last year I felt lost and lacked purpose. I've always been a careerist and much of my purpose focused on how well I was doing at work but I didn't stop to think about how well I was doing with me. Some professional coaching last year made me reflect on this as to what could make me happy if I put my mind to it. I knew I wanted to put myself out of my comfort zone in someway and give back to others so I decided to started my journey with a @cr_uk fundraiser where I put my mind to running 100km through Feb in memory of my Mum. I could barely do 2km at that point without stopping. Wind forward 7 months and running is the new love of my life. It has helped me get through some dark places and find my happy place.
