In this episode, we look into the therapeutic method known as Naikan, developed by Ishin Yoshimoto in Japan. Naikan emphasizes introspection and reflection on our lives and relationships. Unlike Western psychotherapy, Naikan focuses on three fundamental questions regarding our relationships with others: what we have received, given, and caused in terms of blessings and troubles. This approach encourages gratitude, self-reflection, and a shift away from blaming others. By redirecting energy inward and fostering appreciation for the positives in life, gratitude promotes personal growth and healing. Integrating gratitude and acceptance into our lives leads to greater resilience, deeper connections, and a more fulfilling existence, reminding us to find beauty in the ordinary and joy in everyday experiences.
This podcast explores the connection between the mind and body, challenging the idea that they are separate. It discusses Dr. Sarno's theory linking chronic pain to emotional tension and questions traditional views on depression, highlighting the role of stress and childhood trauma. The podcast also touches on the influence of the pharmaceutical industry on psychiatric practices and emphasizes the importance of a holistic approach, including a healthy diet and addressing mental well-being, for overall healing.
In today's podcast, we delve into the intricate workings of our minds when it comes to career advancement. Join us as we navigate the psychology behind work, growth, and the pursuit of a joy-infused life.
Today, I want to share insights about emotional manipulation that will help you take back control. Emotional manipulation relies on the false idea that another person determines how we feel and act. But the truth is that each of us shapes our own reality through our thoughts and beliefs. In this podcast, I'll explain what emotional manipulation is, dispel common myths, and offer strategies for protecting your inner peace of mind so no one can use your emotions against you without your consent. My hope is that you learn to appreciate your innate power over your feelings and stop handing it over to others unwittingly.
Have you ever been in a work or school environment where tensions are running high and you can see the unfolding dynamics as both fascinating and complex? But no matter how different the spaces may be, emotional intelligence always plays a huge role - whether we acknowledge it or not. In this podcast we'll explore why emotional intelligence is key if we want truly effective leaders both in the workplace and beyond.

Hey, folks! I'm fresh off a trip to Vanuatu, and it's got me thinking. The contrast there was staggering – from a lush boutique resort to stark poverty, by our definition.  In this episode we explore the stark contrasts between their privileged life and the challenging circumstances faced by the locals. It prompts deep introspection on the arbitrary nature of birth, societal judgments, and the pursuit of material success. In the world of burnout, understanding the profound influence of our thoughts on our emotions and actions is the key to reclaiming control and vitality. Burnout is not an inescapable fate; it's a pattern rooted in our emotional realm, and by recognizing that our thoughts are optional and can be reframed, we can shift from a contracting mindset to an expanding one. Practical strategies such as mindfulness, self-compassion, setting boundaries, and seeking support are essential tools for navigating burnout, while learning to say "no" and practicing gratitude can help shift focus away from negativity. By embracing the power of our thoughts and taking conscious control of our inner narrative, we can transform burnout into a journey of growth, resilience, and lasting well-being.
Today, we embark on a transformative journey, delving into a paradigm shift that offers the potential to redefine how we navigate our lives. Imagine a world where we possess the power to shape our destiny not by manipulating others but by taking full responsibility for our own worldview and returning the same responsibility to others for their experiences. In this revelation, we uncover the concept of two distinct realms of models: ours and theirs. Our thoughts, emotions, actions, and outcomes compose our model, while others have their models shaped by their unique thoughts, feelings, actions, and results. This revelation calls us to recognize the futility of shouldering the burden of other people's models and encourages us to return them to their rightful owners. By doing so, we free ourselves from unnecessary guilt, take control of our own thoughts and feelings, and reclaim the power to author our own destinies. This paradigm shift is an invitation to take action and embrace the transformative potential that lies within our own models, liberating us from the confines of others' perceptions and judgments.
Confirmation bias is a natural cognitive tendency that influences how we perceive and process information. It leads us to seek out, interpret, and remember information that confirms our existing beliefs, while disregarding contradictory evidence. This bias arises from our evolutionary development, helping us make quick decisions for survival, but it can hinder critical thinking and lead to distorted perceptions of reality. The challenge lies in our attachment to our beliefs, associating them with our identity and ego. Being proven wrong can be emotionally threatening, causing us to resist change and maintain our current beliefs. Overcoming confirmation bias requires conscious effort, self-awareness, and intellectual curiosity. By questioning our assumptions, seeking diverse perspectives, and cultivating empowering beliefs, we can break free from the confines of confirmation bias and open ourselves up to personal growth and transformative change.
The notion that "love never hurts" challenges common misconceptions about love by focusing on its pure essence, untainted by expectations, attachments, or fears. This perspective emphasizes that love is an emotion fuelled by our own thoughts and perceptions, not the actions of others. It clarifies that when we withdraw love, we're robbing ourselves of its benefits, given the experience of feeling love belongs to the person who has generated that emotion with their thoughts. The idea of love hurting often stems from unmet expectations, and by dropping these expectations, we can eliminate much of the disappointment and pain. Love, when understood as an emotion rather than a set of actions, encourages open communication, understanding, and empathy in relationships. With this approach, love transforms from a source of pain to a catalyst for growth, healing, and deeper connections. The key lies in recognizing that love's power comes from within us and that by fostering self-awareness and compassion, we can build fulfilling relationships and self-love.
In the modern digital era, social media has become an integral part of our lives, connecting us to a vast online community and shaping how we interact with one another. However, with its widespread adoption, researchers have started to explore its impact on our wellbeing. We delve into the effects of social media on happiness and mental health, shedding light on the challenges it poses and suggesting ways to prioritize authentic connections and true happiness in the midst of the virtual world.
The session today was inspired by a client's coaching session and the teachings of Marcus Aurelius, the Roman emperor and Stoic philosopher. Marcus believed in living in harmony with nature, both in the macro sense (universal Nature) and the micro sense (human nature). He emphasized that virtuous actions stem from living in accordance with nature. However, many people fail to do so because they remain trapped in their primal brain's instinctual desires, seeking immediate pleasure and avoiding pain. To achieve happiness and virtue, one must train the higher thinking brain to override the primal instincts and make decisions based on the long-term benefits aligned with nature. The coaching process involves challenging and replacing unhelpful thought patterns to reconstruct a new worldview that leads to a fulfilling life. The discussion further explores how this framework applies to various aspects of life, such as relationships, addictions, and decision-making, guiding individuals towards a happier and more purposeful existence.
In this session we explore the intricate relationship between our gut health and mental well-being. We delve into the concept of the microbiome, a vast community of microbes residing in our gut which plays a crucial role in regulating brain activity and cognitive functions. The communication between the gut and brain occurs through the microbiota-gut-brain axis, enabling bidirectional information exchange. Remarkably, the gut microbiota produces neurotransmitters essential for the regulation of our body and brain. Imbalances in the gut microbiome have been linked to various neurological disorders, including Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, autism spectrum disorder, schizophrenia, anxiety, and depression. The latest research work emphasizes the importance of addressing the underlying imbalance in the gut microbiome to restore balance to neurotransmitter levels to improve both physical and mental health. We also reveal the potential of exercise as a powerful tool in supporting mental well-being.
In this episode, we delve into the complexities of relationships and the detrimental effects of having an "operating manual" for our partners. We explore how, over time, we compile a list of rules and expectations for our significant other, often without their knowledge, and how this can lead to dissatisfaction and even the end of relationships. We challenge the traditional model of relationships and propose an alternative: tossing out the manual altogether. By treating our partners as separate individuals with their own dreams, thoughts, and priorities, we can create a more harmonious and fulfilling relationship. We address objections and explore creative solutions for household responsibilities, emphasizing the importance of personal responsibility and open communication. Ultimately, we aim to free ourselves from the burdens of unrealistic expectations and find new ways to build happy and thriving relationships.
Our suffering stems not from external circumstances, but from our resistance to 'what is.' When we let go of the illusion that others are responsible for our emotions and take full responsibility for our own internal experiences, we free ourselves from unnecessary suffering.
In this episode I teach a step by step process for how to process emotions, so you can stop avoiding life.  We live in a society that stigmatises emotions and relegates discussions about feelings to therapy and so we have been conditioned to avoid, deny, and distract ourselves from negative emotions. We engage in activities that temporarily numb the pain or provide temporary relief, but in the long run, these actions lead to more suffering. Our primal instinct to move away from pain and toward pleasure keeps us locked in a downward spiral. We must recognize that experiencing painful emotions is a natural part of being human, and denying them only perpetuates our suffering. By accepting the 50/50 nature of life and allowing ourselves to fully experience and process emotions, we can find opportunities for growth and transformation. We need to examine the thoughts and stories that create our emotions, question their validity, and explore alternative perspectives. By becoming observers of our emotions and focusing on their physical sensations in the body, we can process them through to completion. Additionally, understanding that our thoughts and behaviours are often shaped by our conditioning and environment allows us to have compassion for ourselves and others. By breaking free from societal conditioning and embracing emotional intelligence, we can liberate ourselves from the cycle of pain and suffering.Let’s do this…Happy listening.
