Have you ever heard of anyone praying to be average? I recently had this conversation with my wife @charities.notes and it brings up a good conversation around the Abundance versus a Scarcity mindset.  Every morning we say the prayer of Jabez and it highlights 4 major concepts about an Abundance Mentality That God would bless him. That God would enlarge his territory. That God's hand might be with him. That God would keep him from evil.We talk about the  4 elements of abundance, how they contrast with a scarcity mindset, and what we would do if our children told us they prayed to be average.Full Prayer of JabezOh, that You would bless me indeed, and enlarge my territory, that Your hand would be with me, and that You would keep me from evil, that I may not cause pain.Connect with Me!familyabide.cominstagram.com/familyabidetiktok.com/@familyabidetwitter.com/familyabideyoutube.com/@familyabide

During today's episode of the Yard with Charity Metzger we start off by reviewing how the end of the year went with Holiday shopping.  As those credit card bills and statements fully hit the account we discuss areas of improvement like determining a budget prior to the holidays.  Also, we realize that some of our household values growing up shape the way we look at spending on children and budgets and that it takes a lot of preparation to reconcile. What are the things to expect when expecting a child? When you're planning to have a baby, there are many steps and considerations to keep in mind to ensure a smooth transition into parenthood. Here are some key points we talk about on todays Episode:Daycare: If you and your partner both work, it's important to start thinking about daycare options early on.Buying insurance: Make sure to look into life insurance needs for both you and the baby to plan for worst-case scenarios. Leave of absence & Paid FMLA: Look into the leave policies offered by your employer and plan accordingly.  Some leave is up to 12 weeks of unpaid while other jurisdictions offer paid family medical leave.529 accounts: Consider setting up a 529 college savings account for your baby. A 529 plan is a tax-advantaged savings plan designed to encourage saving for future college expenses.Flexible Spending Account: If your employer offers a Flexible Spending Account (FSA), consider contributing pre-tax dollars to pay for eligible expenses, such as childcare expenses, during the year. Tax withholding: Make sure your tax withholding is accurate, as having a baby can affect your tax liability. Consider adjusting your W-4 form with your employer to make sure you receive more of your money upfront.Returning to work & household budget: Consider how returning to work will affect your household budget and make any necessary adjustments. This may include cutting back on discretionary expenses or even becoming a 1 income household. USAA Simplified Whole Lifehttps://www.usaa.com/inet/wc/simplified-whole-life-insurance?akredirect=truehttps://www.nerdwallet.com/article/insurance/usaa-life-insurance-reviewConnect with Me!familyabide.cominstagram.com/familyabidetiktok.com/@familyabidetwitter.com/familyabideyoutube.com/@familyabide

The Yard can be defined as the main quad of open space located on the Campus of Howard University.   However, the Yards'  definition can not be limited to a location on a map, because it is so much more.  The Yard is a marketplace of ideas that becomes a spiritual place embedded within our souls that shapes our thoughts, ideas, and actions as we mature into adulthood.  Family Abides' version of the yard seeks to cultivate a similar environment where a Husband and Wife discuss Faith, Family, and Finance and the intersectionality of all three. On this platform, we will discuss how our values shape our interaction with the culture.   Give you insight into our productive struggle of melding two different upbringing into one cohesive unit for our children, and try not to tap dance around current topics that impact our household.  These conversations are had with @charitys.notes and @familyabide and you can follow them on all your major social media networks to get more detail. The topic for today's Episode is Driven or Depleted and how to navigate one's expectations versus actual experiences, especially with  Money, Marriage, and Motherhood. Connect with Me!familyabide.cominstagram.com/familyabidetiktok.com/@familyabidetwitter.com/familyabideyoutube.com/@familyabide
