Former police detective, hostage negotiator and international peacekeeper J. Paul Nadeau “Paul” spent more than 31 years working with victims of crime and perpetrators and learning from top experts in abuse situations, murder investigations, hostage takings, terrorist attacks and human behavior in general. Over the course of his career, Paul talked hostage takers into giving themselves up and murderers into admitting to their crimes, and because of his extensive training and his unique approach to connecting with people of all walks of life and under every circumstance, his life was saved by a terrorist during a terrorist attack in the Middle East. Paul understands the importance of connecting to others, without judgement, prejudice or fear, so that we can each contribute to helping the world become a better and safer place. He reflects this compassion in each of the books he writes, each seminar he runs, each life-coach motivational session he has and in each of his global keynotes. In this episode, we dive into the concept of external validation and the power of inner approval.  I introduce the Contrarians Playbook, a new series exploring mindsets that non-resilient individuals often focus on. Through the story of Fulvia, a marketing manager seeking validation from others, we learn the importance of prioritizing inner approval. Fulvia's journey leads to increased authenticity, self-assurance, and resilience in her professional life. We discuss the impact of seeking validation from within and navigating career complexities. The episode emphasizes the significance of internal validation and its role in fostering resilience. By decoupling self-assurance from external praise, Fulvia confronts challenges with confidence and supports others without compromising her well-being. Listeners are encouraged to find their own locus of control and balance external feedback with internal worth. This episode offers valuable insights and lessons for creating more resilient perspectives. Don't forget to check out the Contrarian Handbook for further exploration. Thanks for listening, and please share the podcast to help spread the messages of resilience and well-being. Take care until next week's episode.Chapters0:00:09 Introduction to It's an Inside Job podcast0:00:46 Introducing a New Solo Pilot Series0:02:04 Play #11: External Validation, The True North0:02:36 Fulvia's Struggle with Seeking External Validation0:03:35 Embracing Inner Approval and Making Aligned Choices0:04:26 Evolving Interactions and Genuine Connections0:05:27 Celebrating Accomplishments Through Internal Approval0:06:07 Fulvia's Journey: Shifting to Inner Validation0:07:02 Self-Discovery and Introspection: Unleashing Fulvia's True Foundation0:08:07 The Contrarian Perspective: Filtering External Input through Values0:09:51 Lessons from Fulvia's Journey: Seeking Internal Validation0:11:00 Shift in Perspective: Authenticity and Inner Approval0:12:09 Decoupling Self-Assurance from External Validation0:16:30 Traps of Validation Seeking and Dependence on Others0:17:51 Shift in Perspective: Embracing Imperfections and Prioritizing Inner Growth0:18:56 Introduction to the Contrarian Playbook0:20:07 The Non-Sequential Presentation of the PlaybookContact me at:http://www.mindtalk.no/mindtalk@email.comTagspower of inner approval, seeking validation from within, Fulvia's story, internal worth, resilience, authenticity, professional life, disconnecting self-assurance, external praise, balance, external feedback, internal validation, valuable insights, resilient perspectives, Contrarian Handbook, podcast, messages of resilience, well-beingSupport the showSign up for the weekly IT'S AN INSIDE JOB NEWSLETTER takes 5 seconds to fill out receive a fresh update every Wednesday
