I was blessed with a DOUBLE PORTION of fathers.  God knew I needed both of them to become the person I am today.  Both died unexpectedly.  But as I share in this podcast, what has carried me through the years of their deaths is the knowledge there were no words left unspoken when each died  - my father in 1997, my stepfather in 2015.  Here is my tribute to Dr. Nathaniel Boggs, Jr. and Command Sergeant Major Marlin Barber, my double portion. ❤️❤️Support the show
HAPPY FATHER’S DAY to all you Dads out there!  I wanted to record a special episode and so I asked 3 fathers with unique stories of fatherhood to share their thoughts.  One became a single father through tragedy, one a single father through divorce who has primary custody of his young daughter, and a married father with 4 children under the age of 11.  I was so inspired by the conversation so I know you will too.  There are some technical glitches in this episode, but you’ll be so drawn in by the messages in spite of that.  Enjoy!Support the show
Haley Taylor Schlitz graduated college at 16 and now has a Juris Doctorate at age 19 from the S.M.U. Dedman College of Law, making her the youngest black American to ever achieve a law degree in the history of this country!  It was so much fun to discuss law school, education policy, and LIFE with this young dynamo!  I am so inspired by her journey and I so look forward to welcoming her to the State Bar of Texas in a few months.  This is an episode you definitely don't want to miss! Support the show
For the first decade of my career I worked as a child welfare and juvenile attorney throughout south Texas, including in Uvalde County.  In years past I have represented children who attended Robb Elementary School.  I am saddened and stunned by this tragedy.  It's all getting too close to home.    As a felony prosecutor today who also is responsible for a mental health docket in the jurisdiction where I work and who works with law enforcement DAILY, I don't accept the notion that to take proactive steps to address gun violence in America can only mean taking away the rights of law abiding citizens.  That is not true .  It's not an either/or proposition.    There is much that can be done to make communities safer while not impeding on constitutional rights.  I discuss some of these option in this podcast.Support the show
Having witnessed my youngest graduate from high school having earned more than $1 million in scholarships, thought I'd record a segment on what I consider to key to educational success - parental involvement.  I'm a big believer that parents are the most important educators of our children and teachers are resources to assist us in that endeavor.    My children have achieved great academic success but that would NOT have been the case if their father and I had not been fully engaged in their learning experiences.  I hope sharing my experiences will inspire and challenge to you to not only get involved and if you're already involved to inspire and challenge you to take it to the next level.  Enjoy!Support the show
Lynette interviews two of her friends who are at various stages of their home schooling journeys.  Jill Hayes, mother of Miss Oregon 2022 Abigail Hayes, discusses her experiences of homeschooling her 4!children who are now all young adults.  Adrienne Rodriguez was homeschooled as a child and now is passing on that experience to her own young children today.  This is a very informative topic for anyone considering homeschooling as an option.  The episode also dispels many myths about homeschooling.  Check it out!!!Support the show

Wanted to share my own journey of what motivated me to become an attorney at 48 when I was a single mother of 2.  I started law school 20 years AFTER I was originally accepted.  If you know anything about the Biblical story of Jonah and the Whale, there are similar parallels.  But I did it and I graduated with honors as an Associate Editor of the St. Mary's Law Journal and one of 10 in my law school graduating class inducted into the National Order of Barristers.   It was truly a journey of blind faith that has returned tremendous rewards for me and my children today a decade later as a licensed attorney in two states.  May you be blessed, challenged and motivated by my testimony! #Flygirl #mothersday #lawyerlife #singlemothers #arkansaslawyer #texaslawyer #prosecutor #blindfaith #jonahandthewhale #lawschoolSupport the show
Lynette uses this episode to share information on how parents may have their rights involuntarily terminated by a judge for abuse, neglect and other bad acts.  She also shares examples from her legal career when parents may opt to voluntarily relinquish their rights.  This is a complex subject but one many biological parents and future adoptive parents have to deal with for a child to find their forever home.  Tune in and learn!Support the show

If you are charged with a crime that has incarceration in a county jail or a state penitentiary as a possible punishment, the U.S. Constitution requires that you have a lawyer to defend you and if you are too poor to hire your own, one will be appointed by the judge to defend you.  This has been the law of the land since 1963.  This podcast shares the history behind the landmark U.S. Supreme Court case Gideon v. Wainwright.Support the show
