Description

Mama Psychedelia is a platform to de-stigmatize the psychedelic nature of Parenthood. We celebrate stories of the role of ceremony, entheogenic allies, and the intuitive realms in every state of the parenting journey from pre-conception, postpartum, familial rites of healing and reconciliation, birth, death, and beyond. In each episode of the Mama Psychedelia podcast, we will explore and witness lived experiences of mothers, healers, birth keepers, and ceremonial facilitators. And in the process, open the space for the expansive transformation that these ways can bring in to any human life. This platform is a home for education, de-stigmatization, and enrichment through conversations that center intuition, ancestral guidance, and medicines of the earth. This is not a space to persuade, prescribe or preach. This is, however, a space for radicalism, sovereignty, and enlightening, thought-provoking discussion. One for storytelling, breaking taboos and to share personal truths that shed light on the magic & healing that can come through the childbearing continuum. My invitation while you listen to these stories is that you allow yourself to access your deepest inner knowing, and that you open yourself to connection with the ancestors that walked before us, and to collaborate with them in all you chose to do. My wish is you can recognize the unshakeable truth that exists within you. Please do what you wish with the insight I trust you will receive in every episode of Mama Psychedelia. We are not licensed medical or mental health professionals — nothing said here is medical advice. We don’t promote or advocate for the use of illegal substances; we simply wish to hold space for education, harm reduction, and medicine work that have long histories of use in cultures worldwide.

In this episode of The Mama Psychedelia Podcast, I interview Veladya Chapman of Veladya Organica (previously known over the years as Earth Mama Medicine). Veladya is a mother and herbalist, living and homesteading in rural Georgia. Along with herbalism, Veladya studies and teaches breathwork, entheogens, womb wisdom and holistic nutrition. Her heart is expanded by guiding others towards elevated ways of being. She’s also a YouTube sensation (check her out). In our conversation together we explore Veladya’s history: from Broadway to Herbal medicine; the practice of Yoni Steaming; the mourning of maidenhood in early mothering; the transformation it is to become a mother; being an entheogenic guide; recoupling with her baby’s father; her birth experience with her first born — and so much more. Love chatting with this woman, and honoured to call her a friend and ally on the journey. She’s truly an inspiration.  In this episode of The Mama Psychedelia Podcast, I interview Jess Shine.Jess is mother, wife, life lover, farmer, birthkeeper, village wise woman, adventurer, and dreamer. Life has led her to her latest big leap: her 50 acre family homestead in Northern Idaho where she is dedicated to making their place on this earth better for the next generation. She says “I’ll die satisfied knowing that I made the world a better place, even if it’s just for my 3 littles.”  They’ve got a a whole farm, milk cows, chickens, sheep, alpaca, mini donkeys, llamas, peacock, guinea hens, turkeys, cats, and, of course, dogs.  Jess found a 10 year career in the hospital as a labor and delivery nurse abruptly dissolved a few years back. She was a nurse, a good one, and then overnight wasn’t — fired for following the law of informed consent and not checking a mother’s cervix when the mom told her she couldn’t.  Seeing the hospital thru the view of policymakers changed the way she saw her work, and losing the career she built up over a decade  rocked her to her core.  She went from a really hard, exhausting, inflammation and stress causing job to village wise woman. She learned how to help others heal by healing herself, and sharing her findings through herbalism and homeopathy. Add in mindfulness practices, plenty of fresh air and sunshine, remove the toxins as best as one can, and top it all off with love. Jess Shine shows up as a companion for the births to which she’s called as a witness and a guide. She teaches natural healing and home health classes, and hosts free calls on zoom to help mothers find peace with their births and unwind their stories. Jess recently launched a program to help birth attendants and families understand the ins and outs of the hospital. She is also the director of programs at the Matrona, the school founded by Jess and I’s elder teacher Whapio, and a true blessing to this world.    In this episode together we explore the concept of mothering the mother: caring for mothers in our own community through pregnancy, birth, postpartum, and beyond — & equally important — nourishing the great Mother Earth.  Enjoy. Resources: Where to find Jess:IG: @badassbirthkeeper        @shinewildfamilyfarmWebsite: https://shinewild.farm/badass-birthkeeperYour Host Mackenzie: IG: @mamapsychedelia@hunnywombdoula Intro Music "Waters of the Earth" by Satori covered by me, Mackenzie. In this episode of The Mama Psychedelia Podcast, I interview the second papa to ever come on the show, Levi Barker, a father and steward of Iboga Wellness Center in Costa Rica who approached me with a desire to share his story. Levi came to Iboga about 14 years ago due to an opiate addiction. After coming to the medicine himself and finding solace and healing, he befriended a Bwiti medicine carrier who trained him, and 8 years later offered him the blessing to serve this medicine. Iboga holds incredibly potent powers in reminding people of their clarity and strength, and aids them in overcoming intense addictions, as well as being a form of treatment for common mental health obstacles such as depression (including postpartum depression) anxiety, and ptsd. Iboga is also now known for its supportive measures in boosting fertility & supporting those who may have been considered infertile to conceive human life. Levi shares some of the Bwiti lessons he’s walked with, simple universal truths about what it means to be a human and live here on earth. He speaks to how this medicine & his journey has impacted his parenting & how he feels this teacher can support those clearing out their subconscious closets before becoming parents or those who already are and want to go deeper.(Wifi connection was weak in a few moments excuse the breaks)Resources: Where to find Levi: IG: @realibogawellnesscenter https://www.instagram.com/realibogawellnesscenter/Website: https://ibogawellness.com/Your Host Mackenzie: IG: @mamapsychedelia@hunnywombdoulaIntro Music "Waters of the Earth" by Satori covered by me, Mackenzie. In this Episode of The Mama Psychedelia Podcast, I interview Lindsey Wise. This may just be my favourite episode to date. One of the most moving conversations of my life and truly an answered prayer to share this type of soul medicine with those seeking it. Together Lindsey and I explore the sacredness of Birth, Death, Loss, Illness, Ecstatic Joy, and Sound Frequency. Each share along the way is golden heart nectar, through the beauty and pain, the synchro-mystic unravelling of the ceremony of life is so ever-present. I am so honoured to have received this woman and her family's life story.Following the birth of Lindsey's first child, she had a Near-Death Experience, where she found herself surrounded by multitudes of light beings who initiated her into the world of subtle energies and healing vibrations. At that moment, she realized that all beings create their own unique vibration—their soul song. Each person’s soul song makes up the great Choir of Life. And that is where one of her heart offerings 'Soul Song Revival' was born. Her work is to awaken humanity to the healing power of their unique sound. She's traveled the world and the astral realms, cultivating healing techniques to help people awaken to the power of their own voice and to the healer within. She blend ritual, breathwork, guided journeys, sound healing, yoga and community song  and she call this Ceremonial Energy Medicine. In this episode of The Mama Psychedelia Podcast, I interview Stéphanie Liévana, a mama of one, living in a small off grid ‘town’ in Baja California Sur, Mexico. Stéphanie is a dear sister and inspiration in my life, walking the path of a medicine woman. In our time together Stéphanie shares some of her life’s journey. She was born in Brazil and grew up in Mexico, in her twenties she found herself in Baja. Along the way she fell in love with her beloved partner and ultimately got pregnant, after being diagnosed with hypothyroidism as a child and being told by several doctors, she would never be able to conceive and have a child naturally. She credits this experience to her own healing journey, coming off of medication, finding plant medicines and devoting to a new way of being. She has always been deeply connected with children, and over the past several years found deeper connection with the spirits of Ayahuasca, Peyote, Tobacco & Santa Maria. Ceremony has become an important part of her life, as well as community, El Santuario is a beautiful land that she stewards with our dear sister Ayara Sollua and family, a beautiful Red Tent and Temezcal resides on this sacred land. Stéphanie’s heart is so beautiful and there is so much wisdom here that she shares with us along with the story of her magical birth experience. Her son Lazuli is her greatest teacher and inspiration. *In moments the audio is a little broken up as  Stéphanie's Internet was not the strongest* Grateful she could tune in as most of her time is spent offlineResources: Where to find Stéphanie: IG: @sls201092 Email: proyectosqueflorecen@gmail.comYour Host Mackenzie: IG: @mamapsychedelia        @hunnywombdoula Music "Waters of the Earth" by Satori covered by me, Mackenzie. In this episode of The Mama Psychedelia Podcast, I interview Bri Aberdeen. Bri started her journey of learning about her life giving body at the age of 22 and soon after became a practicing birth and postpartum doula. She’s been serving in this capacity ever since and in her 30 years on earth she’s always been inspired by mamas, who make this world go round. Bri has definitely found throughout her walk on this path that she’s needed to balance out birth work with life, and other pursuits, sometimes needing to take a pause to integrate all that her doula practice reveals. This is something we dive into conversation together about, amongst an array of topics. How to integrate birth experiences as a professional in this field, how the Doula can Doula herself, the importance of the self care & nervous system regulation for the birth worker to show up fully in someone’s birth space. Through her journey of study in birth and her own body, when her own time came she was able to birth without fear, totally in her power. She feels passionately about sex education and birth education and that everyone deserves access to understanding birth and how to support the process beyond birth into postpartum. Doula training is life training. We will all certainly be close to at least one person in our lives who brings life into the world! Relational care is revolutionary my friends. Throughout our conversation we talk in depthly on the path of doula hood, becoming doulas before having children of our own, body literacy and taking charge of our own education, along with Bri’s personal journey, the trip in which she conceived her daughter, her relationship with psilocybin, and surprise free birthing her baby at home on her own!*Wrapping up a Hiatus after one of the most full on months of my life on the Birth path. Emerging out of a Cocoon. So much depth there. So many learnings. In this episode of The Mama Psychedelia Podcast, I interview Sami Love. Sami has been working in the field of Psychotherapy for over 7 years, and started her coaching business rooted in Mental Alchemy over 3 years ago; a space where she has found the freedom to weave her western education with her spiritual journey and knowledge. She has been gifted with many life changing teachings through her 5 years of walking with Sacred Plant Medicines in Peru and other countries around the world. She has now been living in Peru for over 2 years working intimately with plant teachers such as Ayahuasca, Huachuma, Bobinsana, and Tobacco. After a profound 6 months spent in the Amazon Jungle working with plants medicines she moved to the Sacred Valley, where she met her life partner and started working helping him in running their retreat centre, Anahata Ayahuasca. Together, they now work side by side in ceremony with their Indigenous Shipibo Maestro; a healer who has been walking  with Ayahuasca for over 40 years. Witnessing and supporting the healing of others is her soul mission in this life time. She is especially passionate about supporting and standing by women and they rise into their fullest expressions. Two of her projects she holds near and dear to her heart are: REWILD for women, and Sisters of the Moon.In September of 2022, after giving birth to her daughter, life took yet another beautiful shift. Sam and her partner chose to bring their daughter into the world in a more alternative way, rooted in community, ceremony, and trusting/following the guidance of her intuition. It has been an initiation that has transformed her from the inside out. Motherhood is now the most important roll in her life, and she feels so honoured and blessed to be learning and growing through this new chapter in life.I feel Sami’s passion for autonomous family led birth, in my bones, and am grateful to have received her reflections around the current birthing paradigms that exist both in and outside of the medical system. Sam tells us about meeting the spirits of her children before they came in through psychedelic visions, she shares her conception stories, bridging the worlds of psychology and spirit, experiencing miscarriages, and the beautiful sovereign pregnancy she experienced carrying her daughter that led to her surprise breech birth at home in Peru. We talk about societal fears of birth, filtering out what is true and what is not, when being bombarded with opinions as a pregnant women, and staying connected to intuition and truth within.  In this episode of The Mama Psychedelia Podcast we dive into Adelina’s own journey of coming to a plant medicine path, leaving medical school and finding the healing arts. We explore deeply what multi generational healing looks like, tending to the traumas of the family bloodline, nervous system regulation & ceremony integration. Adelina shares her journey of stepping into motherhood and all that that entailed for her, how ayahuasca can give us avenues to walk down on our healing journey but will not “fix” or “save” us. She shares on her devotional path of study and exploration with the Shipibo lineage in Peru, and what exactly a master plant dieta is. She shares on her pregnancy, her own womb healing, especially post abdominal surgery as a child, and her beautiful birth experience. I love the way Adelina expresses her wisdom. Adelina is a mentor and spiritual practitioner that is deeply dedicated to the feminine healing arts and the wisdom spirits of the sacred master plant teachers. She has held several long standing apprenticeships with deeply immersed elders, shamanic teachers, and Curanderos/as. She specializes in modalities such as Trauma Bodywork, Somatic Experiencing, Ayahuasca Integration, Mind-Body Therapy, Sound Healing, Breathwork, and Dance Movement Therapy.  Adelina walks a life of service as a medicine woman and a mother in the shamanic path of the beauty way. Her devotion is rooted in supporting women to clear and heal the traumas that are alive in their bodies-unraveling the stories of the bloodline and awakening to true liberation of creativity, voice, expression, and emotion. She believes in the medicine of embodiment, the wisdom of the feminine temple body, and the power of integration. She focuses on teaching a new language in regulating the nervous system in healthy and supportive ways so that life can be experienced in a path of love.  Forever a student, she bows in deep gratitude for life and all that is here to teach her.Resources: Where you can find Adelina: IG: @adelinamvaughn https://www.instagram.com/adelinamvaughn/Linktree : https://linktr.ee/adelinamvaughnWebsite: www.adelinavaughn.comUpcoming Offerings: https://ayahealingretreats.com/event/noya-rao-remote-dieta-feb-16-26-2023/https://ayahealingretreats.com/event/ayahuasca-women-retreat/Mackenzie's offerings: Email: birthkeeperkenz@gmail.comhttps://snipfeed.co/hunnywombIG: @mamapsychedeliahttps://www.instagram.com/mamapsychedelia/@hunnywombdoulahttps://www.instagram.com/hunnywombdoula/Intro Music: Catrin Finch and Seckou Keita - Tabadabangfrom their 2022 album 'Echo'Intro Music "Waters of the Earth" by Satori covered by me, Mackenzie.(For more of her music, check out her Spotify)
In this episode of The Mama Psychedelia Podcast, I talk with Jamie Satori, together we dive deep into the realms of Quantum Birth keeping, birth being the blueprint of all things, and birth as transformation. Jamie came to Doula work after her own traumatic birth 13 years ago, which later led to 3 redemptive empowered births, the 4th being a self directed birth here in Costa Rica. Her first birth ushered her onto this path of midwifery and mama hood. Moving to Costa Rica supported her in healing from the rat race of the West and her own history of addiction and substance reliance. We together share how we first connected and our early journey of working alongside each other. We touch on how the brainwaves of a birthing being move through them, oxytocin and ecstasy, and the altered state that is birth and death (death being the cervix to the next universe.) We also explore how birth is inherently a spiritual act of essence coming into physicality and Jamie’s own childhood connection to the sacred and how children are highly tapped into the intuitive realms and magic. We talk about supporting the rite of passage for the non-birthing parent and how important their role is on the journey of pregnancy, birth, and postpartum of a new life, and how as birth workers we can support sovereign family led birth and follow the family's lead and to trust their inner knowing.   Jamie is a mama to four and community midwife serving in Costa Rica's southern zone. Borderless Birth is her beloved brain baby and the container that holds her soul work. She is in her eighth year serving at the gateways of birth and death, and passions include the movement towards re-humanization and reclamation of being born, birthing and dying. Following the Quantum Midwifery way (as taught by Whapio of the Matrona), Jamie believes and teaches peak human experiences as altered states of consciousness deserving of ceremony and respect.Where you can find Jamie Satori :  Website: www.borderlessbirth.comIG: @borderlessbirthResources: -Melinda Smyth https://www.alignable.com/jacksonville-fl/ceo-cake-with-melynda-smith-Sarah Kerr https://sacreddeathcare.com/about/-https://birthbreathanddeath.com/Your Host Mackenzie's offerings: https://snipfeed.co/hunnywombIG: @mamapsychedelia@hunnywombdoula   Intro Music "Waters of the Earth" by Satori covered by me, Mackenzie.(For more of her music, check out her Spotify)

In this episode of the Mama Psychedelia Podcast, I interview a mama named Tracey Tee, this episode is highly recommended for anyone out there that may find themselves skeptical or wondering how this could possibly be integrated and supportive in parenthood. For anyone who may not consider themselves “spiritual” or “hippy dippy” and who may consider themselves to be leading more of a conventional life, Tracey acts as an incredible bridge between suburban society and the sacred. Tracey talks about how magic mushrooms have completely altered the way in which she views the world, how beneficial this work with mushrooms has been in her mothering, how she’s able to co create a beautiful life alongside her daughter and see her in her wisdom and fullness. How psilocybin can support us in loosening our type grip of control in life, and learning to trust more deeply. How powerfully healing these can be a therapeutic healing context, but also just a ton of fun, reminding us of our joy and creativity. I loved hearing her personal journey, and how wisdom and humour were deeply woven.Tracey Tee has been actively involved in the momosphere for over 10 years, first co-creating and staring in the nationally touring cult-hit comedy show for moms: ThePump and Dump Show while simultaneously co-producing Band of Mothers Podcastand serving as co-founder and CEO of The Pump and Dump Show’s umbrella brand:Band of Mothers Media. During the pandemic, and during her own journey withpsilocybin Tracey began to feel called to support moms in a deeper and moremeaningful way. In 2022 she launched an online microdosing course createdexclusively for moms called (haha) M.O.M. which stands for “moms on mushrooms.”Tracey’s goal is to bring moms together through the sacred use of plant medicine fora shared journey of personal growth and healing.Moms on Mushrooms is 100% the most fulfilling, challenging and aligned pursuitTracey has ever embarked upon, and she is dedicated to crafting a supportivecontainer for mothers that embodies the Divine Feminine, gives reverence to ourelders and original cultures, and hopefully acts as an example of a redefined way toengage in a New Earth, consciously created model of “doing business.”-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Resources: Where you can find Tracey:Website: momsonmushrooms.comIG: @momsonmushroomsofficialMackenzie's Offerings: Providing Pre conception to Postpartum Services & Breathwork Facilitationin Canada, Costa Rica and beyond.https://snipfeed.co/hunnywombIG: @mamapsychedeliahttps://www.instagram.com/mamapsychedelia/@hunnywombdoulahttps://www.instagram.com/hunnywombdoula/Intro Music Snippet of "Waters of the Earth" by Satori covered by me, Mackenzie.(For more of her music, check out her Spotify) https://open.spotify.com/artist/6wf55RQ8QUEzAA2SeXDWSh?si=H-tnVLtzR2OoHnLU1ztOpw
In this episode of The Mama Psychedelia Podcast, I interview  birthkeeper Linda Hamilton. Linda is a mother of 7 and grandmother and the founder and previous director of the non-profit organization “Birth Without Boundaries”. She continues to be an advocate for peaceful birth practices and honouring of the 42 day postpartum nest, and is currently writing a book exploring her life’s work. Linda has lived between Costa Rica and Pennsylvania since 2001 and has been supporting many families during their pregnancy journeys in person and remotely. During our discussion, Linda shares a few of her own birth experiences, starting with what it was like desiring an unmediated birth in the 80’s at 19 years old when having her first, declaring after her 4th that she would never birth in a hospital again, on to the story of her glorious free birth of her daughter at home. Linda talks about the early days of being a birth companion in her communities as a young mother, her role in advocacy & activism, time shared with Ina May Gaskin & Michel Odent, living in the jungle of Costa Rica and supporting families in wild free birth settings in their full undisturbed power. She illuminates the importance of witnessing the sacredness that is taking place in birth and giving mothers the opportunity to harvest that magic, and how that sets them up for successful, connected mothering. She tells a story of a client’s beautiful birth by the ocean, we talk about birth imprinting, and how the prenatal and birthing time impact each of us and how we relate to the world, and how many of our foundational subconscious beliefs are created at this time. She shares how we can all listen deeper to the baby’s intrinsic intelligence during the birthing process alongside their mothers.Multi generational living, coming together with community, pulling together resources. And finally, one of my favourite topics, the importance of centering & honouring mothers in our communities so they can fully thrive in their role of power and guardianship, how we can serve mothers, and stop perpetuating cycles of self sacrificing behaviour so they can better serve the future.———————————————————————————————————Resources: Where you can find Linda: Linda's WebsiteMackenzie's offerings: https://snipfeed.co/hunnywombIG: @mamapsychedelia@hunnywombdoulaIntro Music Snippet of "Waters of the Earth" by Satori covered by me, Mackenzie.(For more of her music, check out her Spotify.

She shares how  mushroom medicine has supported her personal journey with mental health, healing addiction, and postpartum. Her first deep journey bringing more insightful healing then years of therapy & treatment centers combined. We hear about her adolescence and upbringing as well as her early motherhood days, how her birth experiences differed, and how her parenting fundamentals have become unconditional acceptance, non judgment, and elevating self expression. In this episode of The Mama Psychedelia Podcast, I interview Ariana Fotinakis. Ariana is a breath worker, baby mama of one, and business woman, of Aamjiwnaang First Nations (Ontario) and Greek descent, now residing on the Unceded territories of the Coast Salish people, some call Vancouver. Together we explore her journey of reconnecting to her indigenous roots & and raising her daughter connected to her lineage. She shares openly her story of never envisioning herself as a mother, and coming to a place in her life of choosing a need to mother, to pass the torch and her legacy of healing to the next generation, and stepping into it after two powerfully transformative ceremonies, one with breath work and one with psilocybin that prepared her to step into that initiation. Ariana shares how she’s finding balance in being connected to her sacred work in this world and being a new mama, finding deep purpose in both. And we discuss how breath wave, amongst many other gifts, has brought regularity to her menstrual cycle which ultimately led to her conception, has assisted her in shedding many layers that were not serving, and how working with psilocybin mushrooms has similarly served her deeply in coming to be the person she is now. We talk about her childhood of being psychically tuned in and being in relationship to ancestors and nature, we explored her teenage-hood and early adult years and moving out of alcoholism and finding an “addiction to” fitness & mindset which brought her into a space  wholeness within herself. I love hearing Ariana speak, and I know you will too.Resources: Where you can find Ariana: IG: @arianafotinakis https://www.instagram.com/arianafotinakis/Mackenzie's offerings: https://snipfeed.co/hunnywombIG: @mamapsychedeliahttps://www.instagram.com/mamapsychedelia/@hunnywombdoulahttps://www.instagram.com/hunnywombdoula/Intro Music "Waters of the Earth" by Satori covered by me, Mackenzie.(For more of her music, check out her Spotify) https://open.spotify.com/artist/6wf55RQ8QUEzAA2SeXDWSh?si=H-tnVLtzR2OoHnLU1ztOpw

In this episode of The Mama Psychedelia Podcast, I Interview Jennifer “Juniper” Montgomery. Can you imagine if the entrance into menstruation was celebrated and honoured? If rites of passage were normalized in our most transitional moments of change in life? We will be diving deep into these realms today.Jennifer is a homeschooling, homesteading, homebirthing mama raising 4 children (as well as many varieties of plants and animals) in Appalachia. She is a Matrona certified doula and a birthkeeper and childbirth educator. Some of her greatest passions are physiologic birth, the creation of family, forging new ways for neurodivergent minds, natural and holistic living and healing, and breaking those pesky cycles that prevent loving evolution. In our chat today, we explore some of the ritualistic ways she’s created deeper connection and celebration in her family unit, the importance of community, staying connected and welcoming playfulness and presence with children as they enter teenage-hood, breaking taboos in the birth world, home/unschooling, as well as raising children on the spectrum and how we can better support them to shine in their unique brilliance on this earth. One of my favourites themes in this episode is on menstrual magic, cycle syncing within the family and how to support each other in the home, the sacredness of menarche and the first bleed, how grief comes up for kids during this stage of life and we can support them in navigating it while staying true to themselves, as well as raising children in a way where they are connected to their bodies and to nature. This mama has so much wisdom to share, and I know you will get so much out of it.   Resources: Where you can find Jennifer : Email: JuniperVita@gmail.comFB: Jennifer Montgomery, WNC Birthkeeper https://m.facebook.com/110720604168383/Website: https://junipervita.wixsite.com/juniperbirthIG: @asheville_birthkeeper https://www.instagram.com/asheville_birthkeeper/Mackenzie's offerings: https://snipfeed.co/hunnywombIG: @mamapsychedeliahttps://www.instagram.com/mamapsychedelia/@hunnywombdoulahttps://www.instagram.com/hunnywombdoula/Intro Music "Waters of the Earth" by Satori covered by me, Mackenzie.(For more of her music, check out her Spotify) https://open.spotify.com/artist/6wf55RQ8QUEzAA2SeXDWSh?si=H-tnVLtzR2OoHnLU1ztOpw
