Did you know that pets with a healthy mouth live a longer, healthier life?Taking a bite out of bad breath is not just about keeping your pet’s teeth pearly white. Where tartar and odour lie, bad bacteria are sure to be found. Like our own bodies, your pet’s body is teeming with bacteria creating what is known as the microbiome. Different parts of the body have their own microbiome and keeping good and bad bacteria in balance is the key to better health. So what does that mean for your pet’s oral microbiome health? In a balanced mouth those good bacteria will get to work keeping the teeth and gums clean and free of inflammation. If bad microbes find their way in and are given the right conditions to flourish we begin to see that sticky yellow tartar form on the tooth surface. Those bacteria meanies don’t just stick around the snout, they can easily travel through the body and often enter the bloodstream putting stress on the heart and other organs. In this episode we discuss the many holistic, science backed ways you can help your pet to better hearth and oral health. You can also read more about it in our blog: https://petgrocer.ca/blogs/news/february-is-dental-heart-monthFollow Pet Grocer on FacebookFollow Pet Grocer on InstagramVisit our Website **The content in this podcast is not meant to replace veterinary advice. The use of essential oils can be dated back to roughly 4500 BC and they are one of the most well researched and scientifically documented healing modalities. These  concentrated compounds of plants are made by steaming or pressing various parts of a plant (flowers, bark, leaves, seeds, peel or fruit) to capture the compounds and there is so much more to them than just a nice scent. This month is about all things Red Dog Blue Kat, because there are so many wonderful things to share about this company we couldn’t possibly do it in one post, blog, or podcast. A few weeks ago Pet Grocer™ owner, Jenn Newark, got to sit down with RDBK’s in house Veterinarian, Dr. Julianne Mantler (aka - Dr. Jules). Here is a sneak peek at some of the great questions we asked Dr. Jules:You’ve had a life of adventure with animals with travel and schooling across the globe. How did you end up in Australia and what was your time there like both in vet school and in practice? Is it remarkably different from BC?How did you get your start in the fresh food world? Was it prior to vet school or after? How were you influenced at school in regards to nutrition? Inna and I have previously discussed chemical science when balancing pet diets vs food science. I’m curious to see your perspective of how your training may have opened you to new ways of viewing food, both from a food science and chemical perspective. What constitutes ‘holistic’ varies from person to person. What does holistic veterinary work look like to you?The world of nutrition (for both pet and humans) is highly charged with emotionally powerful beliefs. The same is true when it comes to holistic vet care vs western medicine or our common day vet care. You’ve taken on two really challenging stances – fresh food and holistic wellness – amid a field of peers that typically do not embrace either. What has that journey done to you as a person? Has it been a hardship; have you become stronger? How do you hold on to your beliefs when many around you question them?At Pet Grocer™ we think RDBK is probably one of the best pre-made raw pet foods available in the world today; you have really gone above and beyond many other manufacturers. What is your role with the team at RDBK?Feeding a 'balanced diet' is a big topic in the fresh feeding world. Tell us about your feeding philosophy and recommendations for pet parents. How do you feed your own pets? What simple diet tips can we give to people who may be new to fresh foods? What are your top tips to introducing fresh foods?Check out RDBK Products in our Online StoreFollow Pet Grocer on FacebookFollow Pet Grocer on InstagramVisit our Website **The content in this podcast is not meant to replace veterinary advice. Is your dog battling yeast? If you have a pet that has exhibited signs of itchy skin, gunky ears, dark discoloured skin (sometimes with hair loss), or ‘allergy’ like symptoms, your vet or local pet food store team may have said, “we could be dealing with a case of yeast”. But what is yeast? And why does it cause so many issues for our pets?In this episode we give you the steps to help your pet fight back so they can heal. *You can check out our Blog post about this topic as well.
