Description

Welcome to Extra Nos Academy. The phrase Extra Nos is a Latin phrase that means, "outside of us." This podcast will function as an outlet for unpacking ancient Christianity as preserved through Lutheran thought. I will address matters of culture, scripture, theology, and the Book of Concord. Extra Nos Academy is vehemently committed to proclaiming the sweet reality that salvation comes extra nos, outside of us. God Himself delivers His saving grace to us in Word and Sacrament. We can now rest in the completed work of Jesus. Selah. ExtraNosAcademy.com

There’s no need to make a parallel between the bread being broken and Jesus‘s body being broken. There’s weak manuscript evidence for that idea. Nor, does the bread being broken symbolize Jesus’ body and thus make the Sacrament of the Altar a metaphor. Let’s discuss. This holy meal not only strengthens our faith but unites us as a family. Jesus meets us with forgiveness and family fellowship. 2. The hunger for revival as expressed in the Asbury Revival. We! Are! Back! Happy New Year!!! Welcome to season 3!!! In episode one  we revisit the book, Free to Be: A Handbook to Luther's Small Catechism.  The subject at hand is the Lord's Supper.  The prevailing view is that the Sacrament of the Altar is memorial or symbolic in nature. Yet, biblically and according to church history, Christ is bodily present, in, with, and under the bread and wine.  He promises to never leave us nor forsake us. He promises to forgive us of our sin. According to Matthew 26:26,  He keeps those promises at the Lord's Table, bodily. "Now as they were eating, Jesus took bread, and after blessing it broke it and gave it to the disciples, and said, “Take, eat; this is my body.”  And he took a cup, and when he had given thanks he gave it to them, saying, “Drink of it, all of you,  for this is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins." What an amazing promise. Such a comfort!Get My NEW Book Extra Nos Discovering Grace Outside Myself https://extra-nos.myshopify.com/collections/extra-nos/products/discovering-grace-outside-myself-bookEnjoy My EP on the Lord's Supper https://smarturl.it/ChristForYou

The fear of judgment dominated the Medieval Church. In theology and Christian culture. Similarly, in contemporary times many fear judgement, exposer, or being canceled. Perhaps not for religious reasons but the experience is similar. One is left with a troubled conscience. Fear, anxiety, pride or despair all result from this concern. The solution ultimately is found in being rightly oriented with Creator and creature. Christ Jesus makes this possible, by faith alone. Join Flame as he continues to unpack the central doctrine of justification by faith. The reading is from Robert Kolb and Charles Arand's, The Genius of Luther's Theology. Enjoy!—-The righteousness of faith, which God imputes to us through Christ without works, . . . is a merely passive righteousness. . . . For herewe work nothing, render nothing to God; we only receive and permit someone else to work in us, namely, God. Therefore it is appropriate to call the righteousness of faith or Christian righteousness "passive. This is a righteousness hidden in a mystery, which the world does notunderstand. In fact, Christians themselves do not adequately understand it or grasp it in the midst of their temptations. Therefore it must always be taught and continually exercised.Luther, "Lectures on Galatians, 1531-1535"Get My NEW Book Extra Nos Discovering Grace Outside Myself https://extra-nos.myshopify.com/collections/extra-nos/products/discovering-grace-outside-myself-bookEnjoy My EP on the Lord's Supper https://smarturl.it/ChristForYou
What does it mean to be human? It means to live rightly before God and one another; including the environment. Throughout the ages there have been many attempts to define the human being.  Mostly through philosophy and/or contemporary categories.  The Lutherans Reformers help us rightly define the human creature according to scripture. Join Flame as he continues to unpack the central doctrine of justification by faith. The reading is from Robert Kolb and Charles P. Arand's, The Genius of Luther's Theology. “This is our theology, by which we teach a precise distinction between these two kinds of righteousness, the active and the passive, so that morality and faith, works and grace, secular society and religion may not be confused. Both are necessary, but both must be kept within their limits.Luther, "Lectures on Galatians, 1531-1535"Get My NEW Book Extra Nos Discovering Grace Outside Myself https://extra-nos.myshopify.com/collections/extra-nos/products/discovering-grace-outside-myself-bookEnjoy My EP on the Lord's Supper https://smarturl.it/ChristForYou

This episode addresses "law & gospel" which are the two ways God speaks to us through His holy word. In addition, FLAME addresses his song "Ordo Salutis" from his EP, "Extra Nos." All centered around justification by faith alone.
