Description

The podcast for Moms about how to best support your kids aged 5 to 11 who struggle with anxiety hosted by Anne Barnes, coach for Moms and clinical social worker. I started this podcast because I personally witnessed countless breakthroughs while teaching kids how to manage their anxious thoughts and harness their active imagination. I like to call that CONNECTING to their INNER WARRIOR rather than their inner worrier. I’ll be interviewing various guests including Moms who’ve learned to stop reassuring and accommodating their kids’ anxiety.

In this episode I'll talk about the unconscious programming that happens to all humans from birth until age seven  and how we mirrored and matched our parents/caregivers: Monkey see, monkey do.  I discuss why such information is vital to understand when raising Inner Warriors including how limiting beliefs are created at a very young age with  approximately 10, 000 hours of messages of who they are and what they're capable of.  And, of course, this programming is reinforced beyond the age of seven, right up through the teens, getting  reinforced with stories of how things look and feel. More importantly, I discuss how the protocol SleepTalk is highly beneficial to as a highly effective  method of communicating  with your kid’s subconscious mind  for two minutes nightly while they sleep … I know because I’ve helped hundreds of families with this approach as a mental health practitioner and as parent coach.. since 2014 when I became certified in SleepTalk. 1:30 : let's talk about the most powerful part of the human mind5:45:  Three things that all humans are naturally wired to get from our parents/caregivers14:44:  Why kids don't always share what's on their mind with their parents25:44:  Anchoring in new beliefs Access SleepTalk info: https://gouldingprocess.com/anne-barnes/If you're a Mom feeling frustrated  and maybe resigned about things ever improving with your anxious kid,  know that sometimes talking to family or close friends about your concerns or  about your kids isn’t enough because what you really want is to get neutral support without judgement, shame nor blame.   I'm the coach who  can help you with that. Book a free consult:  https://calendly.com/raisinginnerwarriors/appointmentlinkShare this podcast here: https://raisinginnerwarriors.buzzsprout.comFollow me on FaceBook & Instagram & LinkedIn @annegeraldinebarnes
Do you recall getting called up  to the blackboard to answer a math question in front of the class.. I certainly do.. and it was my biggest fear.. My mind would go blank.. and my face would go red..   And so, not surprising,  Math for me  became a four letter word by high school.  And yet.. all these years later.. the stereotypes of girls and math persist such as the myth that men are better at math and science while women are better at nurturing careers. To lead the way, I’ll be speaking to Elaine Griggs an American  national award winning math and Computer Science teacher, who was a working mathematician before teaching. Elaine has also worked at the policy level in Computer Science with other educators in Washington DC presenting to congress the importance of computer science and CS education for ALL.  Founder of the k12stemclub.com, Elaine states clearly her mission:  increasing availability of quality instruction to ALL students with a Focus on Access to under-represented students.  “My goal for your child is to use their imagination and creativity to develop their own ideas, inventions and become life-long CONFIDENT learners.”If you're a Mom feeling frustrated  and maybe resigned about things ever improving with your anxious kid,  know that sometimes talking to family or close friends about your concerns or  about your kids isn’t enough because what you really want is to get neutral support without judgement, shame nor blame.
In this episode,  I’ll be speaking with Carina McEvoy  a psychotherapist, paediatric hypnotherapist, author of two books on child anxiety, former secondary school teacher,  wife and mother from Wexford, Ireland.  Carina is passionate about speaking out about her childhood experiences related to anxiety with the fervent belief that the more we hear, the more we talk and the more we talk, the less , of a stigma mental health will be.  What raising inner warriors means to Carina:  2:33Parenting as an anxious parent: 5:43Fears parents have related to their kid's anxiety:  9:22Carina's books on anxiety: one for parents and one for kids: 28:33 https://carinamcevoy.com/booksIf you're a Mom feeling frustrated  and maybe resigned about things ever improving with your anxious kid,  know that sometimes talking to family or close friends about your concerns or  about your kids isn’t enough because what you really want is to get neutral support without judgement, shame nor blame.   I'm the coach who can help you with that. In this episode, we're going to talk about kids who aren’t motivated to get any kind of  help for their anxiety and tend to  unnecessarily struggle.   Many parents seem to  believe  that if they explain and reassure their kids enough times, their kids will finally understand & stop feeling anxious.  And what usually happens  is just the opposite:  the worry just continues.. and even flourishes because parents end up accommodating more and more their anxious kid .  However, there is hope!  If you want to see meaningful change in your  kids who struggle with anxiety, I highly recommend a scientifically proven treatment program, a  parent-based approach only called SPACE - Supportive Parenting for Anxious Childhood Emotions,   developed by Eli Lebowitz Director of the program for anxiety disorders at  the Yale School of Medicine Child Study Center.   Unmotivated Anxious kids & Mom's shame and guilt:  1.19 Accommodating Anxious kids: 2:53  Introducing SPACE - Supportive Parenting for Anxious Childhood Emotions: 9:50If you're a Mom feeling frustrated  and maybe resigned about things ever improving with your anxious kid,  know that sometimes talking to family or close friends about your concerns or  about your kids isn’t enough because what you really want is to get neutral support without judgement, shame nor blame.   I'm the coach who can help you with that. Book a free consult call today:  https://calendly.com/raisinginnerwarriors/appointmentlinkShare this podcast here: https://raisinginnerwarriors.buzzsprout.comFollow me on FaceBook & Instagram & LinkedIn @annegeraldinebarnes
Today's episode is an invitation to try new things without putting pressure on yourself nor on your kid.  The focus here is an invitation for your kid to gradually learn how to cope more independently regardless of whether you, their parent,  is  present or  absent, remembering that this is a PROCESS rather than an event.  Why Mental Rehearsal is beneficial for kids who struggle with anxiety : 2:24Why many anxious kids like Mental Rehearsal: 4:47Impacting and influencing your kid with a  playful lighthearted approach : 5:43Planting seeds of possibilities: A practical exercise : Part one :How Mental Rehearsal can work with your kid.  8:49 Part two of Mental Rehearsal by Anchoring in success:11:00If you're a Mom feeling frustrated and hopeless about things ever improving with your anxious kid,  know that sometimes talking to family or close friends about your concerns or  about your kids isn’t enough because what you really want is to get neutral support without judgement, shame nor blame.   I'm the coach that  can help you with that. Book a free consult:  https://calendly.com/raisinginnerwarriors/appointmentlinkShare this podcast here: https://raisinginnerwarriors.buzzsprout.comFollow me on FaceBook & Instagram & LinkedIn @annegeraldinebarnes

In this episode,  I’ll be speaking with one Mom who decided to introduce a 30 day digital detox to her eight year old daughter and 9 year old son related to what she felt was screen over use. Young growing brains really crave the instant stimulation and gratification that screens offer.  Since the gratification with screens is constant, younger and younger kids are binging because they get what are called PLEASURE HITS  for literally hours..These pleasure hits are coming from DOPAMINE aka the pleasure seeking feel good neurotransmitter in the brain which is released based on that instant gratification aka dopamine effect. .. Result: The dopamine effect  can easily make day to day offscreen time  much more boring... Let's tune in... If you're a Mom feeling frustrated  and maybe resigned about things ever improving with your anxious kid,  know that sometimes talking to family or close friends about your concerns or  about your kids isn’t enough because what you really want is to get neutral support without judgement, shame nor blame.
Today we' re going to talk about  SLEEP....I stopped counting the number of Moms who have told me over the years how important it is that their kids learn to  fall asleep,  stay asleep and do all this in their own bed...I remember telling the father of my kids when they were preschool age that what I needed probably was a vitamin  to my diet so I wouldn't yawn so much throughout my workdays.. and he responded "No, what you really need is vitamin sleep" I'm sure you can relate.. Let's tune in..   If you're a Mom feeling frustrated  and maybe resigned about things ever improving with your anxious kid,  know that sometimes talking to family or close friends about your concerns or  about your kids isn’t enough because what you really want is to get neutral support without judgement, shame nor blame.
Not all kids flourish in a traditional classroom setting. Especially those who struggle with anxiety, worry and overwhelm.  Each child's learning journey can be fostered by encouraging what lights them up, their natural curiosity to explore and discover. To lead the way, I'll be speaking with Terri DelSignore, a Mom of three kids from Ontario, Canada.  Let's tune in! This short episode (6 min) was actually a FaceBook live that I did in the height of the pandemic where I shared some of the regular feedback I would get as a social worker working in mental health from many teens and about how they wished things had been different when they were younger in elementary school related to their #mentalhealth &  over-scheduling.    I shared these thoughts asking the viewers back in 2020 during the pandemic to use "this unprecedented time in history as an opportunity to connect and attune to your kids, to their real needs, their authentic self."  Let's tune in..
