I am sharing stories, tips, and lessons that I learn backpacking through America’s trails. Whether you are an experienced backpacker or have never walked on a dirt path, you are welcome here! As a military veteran, hiking has helped me rediscover peace within my soul. As a senior citizen (code for old guy), I know that we are never too old to start. The beauty of nature is waiting for you. So, come on. Let’s go walking!

Can We Ever Go Back?

Can We Ever Go Back?

2022-08-2218:02

I recently returned to Wyoming’s Wind River Range to backpack through the rugged trail near the Cirque of the Towers. This is the most beautiful place I have ever hiked. My brother and I walked here two years ago. I was anxious if I would enjoy it as much this time. I wondered can we ever go back? Well, join me and let’s discover the answer to that question. Let’s go walking - together!

And of course, when they mentioned that there would be cookies, I was in! A couple of things before we cut into our discussion. First, we go pretty deep into discussing faith and spiritual things. If that isn’t your thing, I still invite you to listen in. There are some interesting things here that cover a range of topics around life. We talk about grief and grieving that goes along with any loss. We talk about places where we may find healing and ways to leave a legacy of memories for our families and friends. For myself, hiking trails are my place of healing and legacy. You need to find your place too.
Welcome to Wandering Monk Hikes Podcast. This episode shares my plans for retracing  old paths and hiking new trails. Come on and let’s talk about the Wind River Range.
Hello everyone! I am hiking alone in the wild area of Isle Royale. This remote place is the least visited national park in the lower 48 states of the USA. It is wild and beauty. Six hours off the coast of Michigan's Upper Peninsula in the middle of Lake Superior. Isle Royale is home to unique plants and wildlife. Two packs of wolves hunt for food among the many moose that live here. Isle Royale is a promising adventure in these trails less traveled.  Let's go walking!

Please visit and subscribe to my YouTube channel! Wandering Monk Welcome to Wandering Monk Hikes Podcast! This episode is a wandering through a few divergent thoughts that may have a common point to consider.  We are discussing all things hiking and backpacking. We will talk gear, trails, hacks, techniques, and much, much more. Backpacking has given me so much. More than the excitement, and it is exciting, there is something else. More than the challenges, and it is challenging, I am motivated by a different call.  There is healing on the trail. Emotional healing is a great blessing of the trail! I feel peace when I hike. I want you to find health too. Let’s talk about it. Let’s go walking - together!

Early this year, I sat with Nimblewill Nomad in his cabin atop Flagg Mountain in central Alabama. We enjoyed a fire and warm conversation. He also wrote two books, “Where Less the Path is Worn” and “Ten Million Steps.” Nimblewill Nomad is a true hiking legend. Come and listen into our conversation.
