Things You Should Like takes a darker turn in episode 15, with a cinematic masterpiece by Stanley Kubrick, his final movie Eyes Wide Shut, released in 1999. With a script based on 'Dream Story', a novella written by Arthur Schnitzler, the Christmas setting is the background for an emotionally turbulent rollercoaster that features eerie music, an array of vanishing characters and people being left behind. All this, wrapped in beautifully shot scenes and remarkable characters that face the consequences of their actions — or is it all a dream?Support the showContact: thingsyoushouldlikepodcast@gmail.comInstagram: @thingsyoushouldlikepodcast#thingsyoushouldlike
A literary episode for episode 14 of Things You Should Like, as we travel back to 17th century Spain and a compilation of 300 aphorisms by Baltasar Gracián titled The Pocket Oracle & Art of Prudence.  His witty sayings have plenty of pieces of wisdom that have lasted through the ages and are still helpful today, as our host found out when he recently translated this book for an upcoming edition.Support the showContact: thingsyoushouldlikepodcast@gmail.comInstagram: @thingsyoushouldlikepodcast#thingsyoushouldlike

Curiosity leads us to take a look at a small animal on the rock, a limpet. As he conquered Europe and beyond, power evaded Napoleon too, an intriguing personality whose destiny should teach us something. Support the showContact: thingsyoushouldlikepodcast@gmail.comInstagram: @thingsyoushouldlikepodcast#thingsyoushouldlike

Episode 16 - Triumph

In Episode 16 of Things You Should Like we take a look at the remarkable verse by Inspectah Deck on the Wu Tang Clan song Triumph. In 1997, the group picked Triumph as the lead single of their sophomore album, shooting an expensive music video for a song that didn't even have a chorus. The first rapper was Inspectah Deck, who used it as a showcase, not just for his lyrical mastery, but also for a lesson in how to flow through the instrumental.Things You Should LikeHosted by Miguel MerujeContact: thingsyoushouldlikepodcast@gmail.comInstagram: @thingsyoushouldlikepodcast#thingsyoushouldlikewww.buymeacoffee.com/tyslIntro and Outro Track by Marlow DigsSupport the showSupport the showContact: thingsyoushouldlikepodcast@gmail.comInstagram: @thingsyoushouldlikepodcast#thingsyoushouldlike

Episode 8 of Things You Should Like is about the London book publisher Fitzcarraldo Editions. Their excellent international catalogue of authors is matched by a clean and effective book design that makes the books stand out from the shelves with their simplicity and encourage the discovery of new authors published by them. As essays have white covers and fiction has blue ones reminiscent of the International Klein Blue, the episode ends with a little detour about that pigment.Support the show

Located in Paris, France, this house of glass was created by Pierre Chareau, Bernard Bijvoet and Louis Dalbet for Dr. Alsace — as his medical clinic but also his family home.
