On this episode of the show we are joined by astrologer and queer muslim mystic Suprasensory Shahir to talk the ever trippy fixed star Fomalhaut. Shahir, a fellow lover of Islamic esoterica, speaks of Gibril, the Prophet Yunus (Jonah and the Whale), as well as dream experiences they have had in relation to this star. We discuss this star's lesser known aspects as one of loners and trailblazers, who often must face great isolation before their purposes actualized. Shahir's Info:Consultation: https://suprasensory.as.me/schedule.phpWriting: https://suprasensory.substack.com/YouTube: Suprasensory Astrology https://www.youtube.com/@suprasensoryInstagram & Threads: https://www.instagram.com/suprasensoryshahir  You can find full episodes of the show, ways to support the show, as well as countless other contents at patreon.com/starnightdwell

Hydra / with Sasha Ravitch

Coinciding with the heliacal rise of Alphard (the heart star of the constellation), Sasha Ravitch and I bring you a dedicated episode to The Red Queen, Hydra. We discuss some of the differences between these serpent stars and other prominent ones. Through her many heads we see her flexibility as a spirit; multi-faceted and keen on survival. We explore her links to biology, sexuality, desire, queerness, and -of course- witchcraft. Sasha also speaks about some of her idiosyncratic practices with these stars including nebulas and deep space objects. You can find Sasha at sasharavitch.com and on Instagram (@sasha.ravitch) and Twitter (@sasharavitch). You can find her multimedia Hydran-expression (@cultus.matris.hydrae) and some beautiful talismans to come on Instagram. I have gotten quite a few comments on this short essay and reading from 2020. It has been floating in the Abzu of the starnightdwell channel for a year or so now, but in the spirit of the time (Mercury Rx) I thought it would be nice to bring it back. In summary, it is a meditation on the nature of the imagination through the lens of two waters intermingling (or not?).
Sasha Ravitch joins us for the second installment of our 3 part 'Stars of Horror' series. Using insights born of and informed by horror cinema, each episode will focus on a particular star alongside its more monstrous expressions. In addition to this we will discuss parallel topics of magic, divination, witchcraft, and creativity through the context of our chosen films. On this episode we speak about the star Alphard and its themes of extreme desire and all consuming love. The three films that we have chosen are Jennifer's Body (2009), Videodrome (1983), and Bones and All (2022).You can find Sasha at sasharavitch.com and on Instagram (@sasha.ravitch) and Twitter (@sasharavitch). Katarina shares diverse oral lore from Serbia and the Balkans pertaining to the varieties of serpentine beings and their characteristics, relation to weather phenomena, agricultural cycles and of course so many juicy bits on witchcraft. Algol / with Amaya Rourke

Algol / with Amaya Rourke

2023-05-1701:22:39

For this turn-ya-to-stone episode of the show we are joined by astrologer and spiritual counselor Amaya Rourke to discuss that most infamous of stars, the notorious and undisputed dark-Queen of the firmament, Algol. How has this reputation come about and is it a suitable one? What might a relationship look like with these potent natural forces of creation and destruction? How might one approach this?  For the full episode as well as other writings, videos, listenings and all things-starry, be sure to check out the Patreon (patreon.com/starnightdwell) where you can help support this project and keep the stellar fires churning. On this one year anniversary special we are joined by Jesse Hathaway Diaz and returning guest Dr Alexander Cummins, the estimable and brilliant hosts of the podcast Radio Free Golgotha, to muse on ‘Darkness’ in its many facets. As 'a starnight dwell' was founded one year ago during The Harrowing of Hell (the time between Good Friday and Easter) as a means of exploring the starry underworld of the Imaginal, it was only appropriate to speak with two so well versed on the eclipsing mysteries therein. Our discussion was free-form and open-ended, as tends to be the nature of darkness. As a show based upon discrete focal points of light, what is it to use this same approach instead with the space around said luminosities? Must darkness always be in opposition to light, such as black to white? Is it our greatest ignorance and our deepest knowledge? Or perhaps it marks the beginning stages of the breakdown between these binaries; a fertile-merging, a mixing, and a fluid in between?Jesse and Al’s information, as well as more on their podcast and the Speakeasy of the Dead: RFG Site For the full episode of the podcast, extras, as well as writings, artwork, and so much more, please visit the Patreon. Music: ‘Going North’ by Mother Nun
From Solstice to Solstice we have traveled to our newest conversation with honored guest Langston Kahn. With perhaps an unconventional approach to the concept of the North Star (sometimes Pole Star), Langston, a shamanic practitioner and writer, speaks with us about this star’s ability to help guide as well as set our heart’s ablaze with starlight and a sense of sovereignty. Beginning with some context around ‘shamanism’ and some of the ways the North Star may be interacted with, we also get into Langston’s own tradition, cosmology, as well as personal experiences. All in all, a much needed reprieve from the oftentimes ultra-cerebral approach of astrology proper (as well as my own!). Langston’s Info: IG: @ langstonkahnWebsite: langstonkahn.comBook: 'Deep Liberation: Shamanic Teachings for Reclaiming Wholeness in a Culture of Trauma'Music: ‘Going North’ by Mother NunYou can find some more information on myself and my other endeavors at starnightdwell.com as well as at @ starnightdwell on Twitter and Instagram.
On this Summer Solstice episode of the show we are joined by Dr. Alexander Cummins for a wonderful chat around that most famous (yet not often spoken about in astrological circles) heralding star; sometimes referred to as the Star of the Magi or the Star of Bethlehem. With so much beautiful lore surrounding this sign I thought of no better a mind than Dr. Cummins’ to survey all things historical and esoteric. His focus on dead magicians and folk necromancy is curiously not misplaced here..Dr. Cummins’ Info:Twitter & Instagram @grimoiresontapealexandercummins.com
For this Mercury Retrograde special we are joined by McCalla Ann, host of the SaturnVox podcast/platform for a fun albeit technologically frustrating swapcast discussion. Highlighting our mutual natal placements in Aquarius, we discuss the limits of knowledge in regards to divination, as well as similarly themed philosophical and esoteric inquiries. McCalla also speaks directly to their experiences and practice as a professional diviner with some time tested observations around presence, performance, and embodying the role that is observing the image in all of its various masks; the meta-image as we come to call it. In joining one another on our respective show’s, the dialogue led to new and fascinating insights; testament to not only the medium itself but the re-visionary process of Mercury in its retrograde phase. To hear my interview on McCalla’s show, you can visit their podcast called SaturnVox.  McCalla’s Info:Twitter & Instagram @saturnvoxsaturnvox.com
Sasha Ravitch, astrolater, folkloric-witch, and all around bestie joins the show to discuss her idiosyncretic astrological practice as well as fixed stars, spirit work, and of course relating to other in a starry context.By other, we mean those beings often found in liminal places; the ones who we intentionally refer to in an indirect way. In this same fashion the means we may use to access these worlds are often unorthodox, if not outright fantastical. The way our personal experience comes up against or alongside established tradition is another theme of the show. With direct experience from her pratice as well as some professional recommendations, this episode sets a proper mood for future interviews as we continue to explore imagination and its role in spheres of knowledge making, creativity, and the like. Sasha’s Info:Twitter:  @PSYCHEPOMP_Instagram: @sasha.ravitchsasharavitch.comFor more information and other content by J.M.
