Episode 106 of the Steelers Sanctuary Podcast is out.  The episode starts out with a general overview of the Steelers draft.  Pittsburgh definitely stressed character, and athleticism in this draft.  They also used their top 30 visits as a way to determine draft picks.  Several of their picks came from this list.Next we give out our grades for each selection.  As you might expect, the Steelers did very well in our grading system.  Top marks almost all around for this draft class. The pod wraps up with a discussion about the potential signing of Cam Sutton.  Sutton was released by the Lions after a warrant for his arrest was issued in a domestic assault case.  So many questions to be hashed out about the Steelers apparent interest.  Subscribe to the podcast wherever you get your pods.  Email the show at daver@steelersanctuary.com.Support the Show.
Episode 104 ofthe Steelers Sanctuary Podcast is out.  We start the pod out with some news just 24 hours before the NFL draft.  The Steelers have been linked to trading up for Quinyon Mitchell, and trading for Courtland Sutton.  We learned during the pod that the team cleared more than 7 million in cap space by restructuring Alex Highsmith.  We fully expect an exciting next couple of days.We wrap up the pod with a game DMC has come up with called Draft Bash.  We try to predict every Steelers pick, then answer a few draft questions as well.  We’ve decided to make this a contest with a prize for you all to play.  Visit either one of our X accounts for the rules, and where to send your selections.  Subscribe to the pod for more great Steelers content like this.  Email the show at daver@steelersanctuary.comSupport the Show.
Episode 103 of the Steelers Sanctuary Podcast is out.  This week we start the podcast off with a review of the Steelers pre-draft press conference.  Omar Khan and Mike Tomlin spoke to the media for the last time before the draft on Thursday.  Tomlin insisted the team filled the team’s major holes in free agency.  Dave and I strongly disagree with that statement..  Khan mentioned he was open to trading down, but “didn’t want to trade away from a good player.”Next it’s on to our second live mock draft.  This one worked out extremely well.  We traded down to 28 with the Buffalo Bills and picked up pick number 60.  We still managed to get Jackson Powers Johnson at 28.  Tune in for the rest of our selections.  We think you’ll really like how this mock turned out!Subscribe to the pod wherever you get your podcasts. Episode 102 of the Steelers Sanctuary Podcast is out.  The pod starts out with some talk about the offensive linemen in this draft.  Some of the top tackle prospects may be thought of as guards or even centers at the NFL level.  We discuss how this may affect the Steelers come pick 20.  Next we review the final names for the Steelers pre-draft visits.  The big name of course is Graham Barton.  Tony Pauline had insinuated the Steelers might be interested, then 24 hours later he was in Pittsburgh for an official visit.  Barton must be among the few names likely to go first for the Steelers on draft night.  The pod wraps up with a live mock draft.  As we go through the draft it becomes clear that things have broken perfectly for what the Steelers would want come the real draft next week.  Tune in to see who we picked.  Subscribe to the pod whatever you get your podcasts.  Email the show at daver@steelersanctuary.com.Support the Show.
Episode 101 of the Steelers Sanctuary Podcast is out.  We reached out to our go to draft expert Tony Pauline after his article had connected the Steelers with center prospect Graham Barton.  Pauline clarified his thoughts on the Steelers interest with the Duke center. After that we spend the rest of the pod getting Tony Pauline’s views on all the prospects connected to the Steelers.  We go position group by position group breaking down a long list of potential Steelers draft picks.  This is an episode you don’t want to miss if you have any interest at all in the NFL draft.Subscribe to our podcast so you don’t miss a single episode of our great Steelers content.  Email us at daver@steelersanctuary.com.Support the Show.
Episode 100 of the Steelers Sanctuary Podcast is out.  This is a bit of an abbreviated podcast.  We tried to do a live mock draft on the pod and ran into some technical difficulties.  There’s’ still some good stuff on here, however we had to edit out the actual mock draft.  We will be trying it again on the next podcast as we think we have ironed out all the kinks.  Thanks and sorry again for the issues on this pod. Subscribe to the podcast wherever you get your pods.  Email the show at daver@steelersanctaury.com. Support the Show.
Episode 99 of the Steelers Sanctuary Podcast is out.  DMC is back and it’s time to really focus on the draft.  Before that  however, we discuss Miles Boykin recently signing with the New York Giants.  This means both the team’s starting gunners have now moved on.  Pittsburgh’s special teams will have a different look come 2024.Next we do a deep dive into the Steelers pre-draft visits.  We now know 27 of the 30 players who have come to Pittsburgh.  The list consists almost entirely of corners, tackles, wide receivers, and defensive lineman.  It seems that the Steelers are going best player available at one of those positions in the first round.  The pod wraps up with each of us trying to nail the Steelers first round pick with five guesses.  We take into consideration pre-draft visits, pro day visits, and much more to try to nail this pick.  Subscribe to the pod wherever you get your podcasts.  Email us at daver@steelersanctuary.comSupport the Show.
Episode 98 of the Steelers Sanctuary Podcast is out.  This week we are joined by friend of the pod Nick Farabaugh of Steelers Now.  We start the pod out talking about the Steelers free agent acquisitions.  Nick shares our theory that this team got better at some positions, but weakened themselves at others.  Next it’s on to a deep dive on the Steelers upcoming draft.  We take a look at this team’s potential draft strategy.  It seems as if the Steelers are comfortable with taking the best player available in round one despite obvious a dire need at center.  This is a risky proposition given they have no center currently on the roster. We spend the rest of the pod breaking down the various positions of need, and what players might fit those needs in the draft.  We cover tackles, corners, wide receivers, as well as the rest of the relevant positions.  Subscribe to the pod wherever you get your podcasts.  Email the show at daver@steelersanctuary.com. Support the Show.
Episode 97 of the Steelers Sanctuary Podcast is out.  The pod starts out with a talk about the new Steelers getting their jersey numbers.  Cordarrelle Patterson getting the number 84 sparks an interesting conversation.  Should the Steelers be giving out numbers of former legends?  Should Antonio Brown be considered that after the way he left?  Lots of good talk on this subject.Next we talk about the recent players that have been brought in for a visit.  Clemson corner Nate Wiggins, and Georgia tackle Amarius Mims both were announced to be coming in for a pre draft visit.  This makes these two the leaders in the clubhouse for the Steelers first round pick.  We also look at the other players brought in, and what that tells about the team’s draft plans. The pod wraps up with the Steelers Sanctuary official mock draft 3.0.  No center was taken until the 4th round, tune in to find out why.  Subscribe to the pod so you don’t miss it single episode of our great Steelers content. email us at daver@steelersanctuary.com.Support the Show.
Episode 96 of the Steelers Sanctuary Podcast is out.  This episode starts with some Steelers news.  The team officially announced the signings of Quez Watkins, Cordarrelle Patterson, Dean Lowry, and Kyle Allen.  We also discuss the troubles of former Steelers cornerback Cam Sutton. He turned himself into police after being on the run for weeks.Next up is DMC’s latest mock draft.  He goes with Armarius Mims as his first round selection.  He then goes center, and corner with the next two picks.  It’s an interesting dilemma the Steelers are in with no center on the roster.  They certainly have to draft a center in the first two rounds. The pod wraps up with some pro day talk.  It’s an odd year because Tomlin and Khan only attended four pro days.  We discuss what, it if any, affect this might have on their draft selections.  Subscribe to the podcast wherever you get your pods.  Email the show at daver@steelersanctuary.com Support the Show.
Episode 95 of the Steelers Sanctuary Podcast is out.  Ron Lippock from Steelers Takeaways joins us once again to talk Steelers.  The pod starts out with the team’s latest signing.  Pittsburgh inked running back/ kick returner Cordarrelle Patterson this week.  We discuss his role with the team, and whether or not he still has anything in the tank at 33.Next we take a deep dive into the Steelers center position.  It seems like the Steelers almost have to draft one in the first two rounds at this point.  With nothing left in free agency, and not much in the trade market, the team has backed themselves into a corner.  We review all the top center candidates in the draft. The pod wraps up with a look at the lack of depth on the team.  The Steelers are extremely thin in several positions.  Omar Khan has his work cut out for him the rest of this offseason.  Subscribe to the pod wherever you get your podcasts.  Email the show at daver@steelersanctuary.com.Support the Show.
Episode 93 of the Steelers Sanctuary Podcast is out.  This week we start with some Steelers news.  Former corner Cam Sutton was released by the Detroit Lions today.  He is still being sought by police over a domestic violence charge.  It’s a sad story for a former highly regarded player in Pittsburgh.  Also in the news the Steelers hired defensive backs coach Anthony Midget this week.  Next we do a deep dive into the team’s center position.  They seemed to have backed themselves into a corner now that all the good centers have been signed in free agency.  Pittsburgh almost certainly has to draft one in the first two rounds.  Not signing a veteran could come back to haunt them. Wide reciever rumors are next topic.  Lots of rumors Omar Khan is big game hunting for a replacement to Diontae Johnson.  Names like Brandon Aiyuk, Deebo Samuel, and Terry McLaurin have been tossed around. We wrap up the pod reviewing the Steelers pro day visits and the players they have had in for top 30 visits.  Lots to deduce from these lists.  Subscribe to the pod wherever you get your podcasts. Episode 92 of the Steelers Sanctuary Podcast is out.  The pod starts out by looking back at was the craziest week in Steelers offseason history.  From completely dismantling the quarterback room, to trades galore, this was one hell of a week.Next we do a deep dive into what led the Steelers to move on from Kenny Pickett.   We look at what transpired that led to Kenny Pickett’s benching late last season, his reported refusal to play backup, and finally his trade request.  We discuss Pickett’s apparent lack of desire to compete for his job as well.  All in an effort to figure out why this team traded their first round pick only three years later. The pod wraps up with a look at other Steelers news.  Things like Mike Williams visit, a cooling on Tyler Boyd, and a contract restructure for Donte Jackson.  Subscribe to the pod wherever you get your podcasts. Episode 91 of the Steelers Sanctuary Podcast is out.  Yet another emergency podcast for us as the Steelers make thier third big move of the week.  This time Pittsburgh has acquired Justin Fields from the Chicago Bears for a 6th round pick that could become a 4th.  We go over all the details of this trade, along with the possible outcomes of this latest move.  Subscribe to the pod wherever you get your podcasts.  Email the show at daver@steelersanctuary.comSupport the Show.
Episode 90 of the Steelers Sanctuary Podcast is out.  This is an emergency podcast to discuss the huge news that Kenny Pickett has been traded.  We discuss all the associated with this deal.  Why was he traded, was the deal a good one, and so much more.  Subscribe to the pod wherever you get your podcasts. Episode 89 of the Steelers Sanctuary Podcast is out.  In this episode we discuss all the Steelers moves this week.  We start off with the Patrick Queen signing.  This is a good move to shore up the linebacker position.  Pittsburgh has also re-signed special teams ace Miles Killabrew. Next we dive into the controversial trade of Diontea Johnson.  Neither of us believe this was a good trade for the Steelers.  In return for DJ, the Steelers got corner Donte Jackson from Carolina along with a pic swap.  It feels like Omar Khan could have done much better in a deal for such a talented receiver.  The pod wraps up with a spirited debate over the different philosophies of Omar Khan and Kevin Colbert.  Dave believes Omar Khan is more apt to make bold moves.  My argument is Kevin Colbert never had to because he always  built great rosters through the draft.Subscribe to the pod wherever you get your podcasts.  Email the show at daver@steelersanctuary.com. Support the Show.
Episode 87 of the Steelers Sanctuary Podcast is out.  We start the episode out with the big news of the day.  Gerry Dulac reported that the Steelers will meet with free agent quarterback Russell Wilson.  This contradicts many reports that the team was not interested in an outside quarterback.Next we go over some other news . Two former Steelers lineman signed new deals today.  Kevin Dotson signed a 3 year deal to stay in Los Angeles.  We speculate on how much of a mistake the Steelers made in trading him.  Chuks Okorafor signed with the New England Patriots today ass well.We finish up the show with my Steelers mock draft 2.0.  Some surprises in this mock you don’t want to miss.  Subscribe to the podcast wherever you get your podcasts.  Email us at daver@steelersanctuary.com. Support the Show.
Episode 86 of the Steelers Sanctuary Podcast is out.  The pod starts off with the sad news of Andy Russell passing.  Dave and I go over the his career, and discuss his Hall of Fame merits.Next it’s on to the rumor mill.  The Diontea Johnson trade rumors heated up this week.  We talk about Tony Pauline’s report that the Steelers are listening to offers for their star wide receiver.  And then of course there is the never ending rumors about a potential trade for Justin Fields.  This week Adam Schefter fanned the flames by linking him to the Steelers. We spend some time on the NFL combine as well.  We go over some of the hotter prospects at the combine.  I give the list of players the Steelers met with by position.  Some interesting things can be deduced by this list. The pod wraps up with our weekly poll question.  This week we asked who was a better quarterback right now, Kenny Pickett or Mac Jones.  Tune in for the results.  Subscribe to the pod wherever you get your podcasts.  Email the show at daver@steelersanctuary.Support the Show.
Episode 85 of the Steelers Sanctuary Podcast is out.  We start the pod out with Omar Khan’s press conference at the NFL combine.  Khan said he has “full faith” in Kenny Pickett heading into 2024.  He also said he’d be looking to add competition.  That competition could come in the form of Mason Rudolph.  Khan reiterated the Steelers interest in bringing Rudolph back.  Khan addressed the Broderick Jones position debate saying he would be moved back to left tackle eventually.  Next we discuss the recent players poll on working conditions.  The Steelers finished bottom five for the second consecutive year.  Art Rooney scored an F from the players. This is not a flattering survey for the Steelers owner. We wrap up the pod with a game called who would you rather keep.  We pick to random Steelers players and ask which would you chose if you could only keep one?  It’s a fun and interesting exercise.  Subscribe to the podcast wherever you get your podcasts.  Email us at daver@steelersanctuary.comSupport the Show.
Episode 84 of the Steelers Sanctuary Podcast is out. We start the pod out with some NFL Combine talk. Dave and I talk about whether or not players not working at the combine hurts their draft stock.  We also have a conversation about quarterback Drake Maye.  Merril Hodge was quoted as saying he wouldn’t take Maye in the first round.  If Maye should fall to 20 should the Steelers take him?Next, we discuss the recent comments on Twitter by cam Heyward.  Is the Steelers offensive tackle being a little too sensitive about what people say about him?  Is he using this for motivation, or is he just too sensitive about what people say about him?The topic of the Steelers offensive line is next. Dave and I try to figure out how they will construct the 2024 unit. What combination of free agents and draft picks will be use to build the next Steelers offensive line? The pod wraps up with our weekly poll question.  This week we asked who would you rather the Steelers quarterback be in 2024, Justin Fields or Geno Smith?  The poll responses were a little surprising.  Justin Fields won by a whopping 80 to 20%. We think the Steelers fans may be overlooking how good Geno Smith really is.  Subscribe to the podcast wherever you get your pods.  Email the show at daver@steelersanctuary.com.Support the Show.
