Do you have big goals and dreams to help you live the life you want to live? Do you also have a sinking feeling in the pit of your stomach when you try to think about STARTING the changes you want to see in your life?OOOR do you see yourself thinking about starting these things and then your brain goes: Nu-huh. Not today...If your'e in one of those camps, lets talk about your avoidance issue. As always, the first step to addressing this is to actually understand what you're avoiding, and the actions you're taking when you're actively avoiding a task, a thing, or a person. Then: here's the magic sauce: What FEELINGS are you experiencing when you notice your avoidance behaviors? We dive into these things in this episode, and I give you the three most common emotions and actions that may cue you into your avoidance patterns, all so that you can take that first step: Know when you're avoiding. If this episode gives you that funny feeling in the pit of your stomach and your brain is saying turn away! Turn it off! Then my friend, you're in the right place. As always, I'm here to help, --Dr. Pan Zhang, Your Chronic Pain Coach.

This message is for all of you out there doing ALL the thingsYou’re eating rightYou’re JournalingYou’re exercising to your paceYou’re seeing a therapist/sBut you’re still in pain. If you’re one of those people: I have one question for you:Do you believe?Do you believe in yourself?Do you believe in your goals?Do you believe in the path?Or are there stories that are playing in your head that are keeping you down? Are you feeling like every time you take a step forward, you take two steps back? Are you constantly feeling frustrated aren’t where you think you should be?Are you feeling like even though you are doing all the things, you feel like you should be doing more?If you’re one of those people, I invite you to just pause and take a breath. Think back to 1 year ago, and remember your day to day life then. What were you frustrated with? What couldn’t you do? What do you wish you could do?Take a look at where you are now. How have those things improved? How do you feel since that has all changed?Next step: Make a list of your frustrations, the things you can’t do, the things you are unhappy with about your life. After you’ve done this, put it aside. Keep doing you, and come back and three months and see how your life has changed. ======================Welcome to Pain Relief Path! I am Dr. Pan Zhang, Physical Therapist turned Chronic Pain Coach. Are you someone who finds it hard to stick with new routines to help you with your chronic pain? You find yourself diving deep into a new diet, exercise program, or supplement routine, only to find reasons that this doesn't work for you after a few weeks? When this happens over and over again, you may feel like you're met with failure with all the activities that you may try, and this story builds in your head:  "Nothing can help me. I'm going to be in pain forever." If this is you, LISTEN TO THIS EPISODE. For the questions I ask in the episode: Use this as a guide for self exploration and self understanding. Don't judge yourself, but whatever answers bubble up to the surface, let yourself embrace them for what they are and for you to be able to see and feel the stories that you've been consciously and unconsciously telling yourself. Here they are:What was the last thing you tried to help with your pain? How long did you stick with the program? What were your biggest limitations or Barriers to sticking with the program? Are these limitations or barriers that you have control over? If you do, did you change your limitations or barriers? Why and why not? Why??Why??Did it work? If it did: what did you like about it? — and are you still doing it? If it did not work?WHY didn’t it work? If you “just didn’t like it”what didn’t you like about it?Why? Why? What feelings and thoughts came up when you did the program? If the opportunity came along that guaranteed that you could achieve your result, but you had to commit fully to it, for an undetermined amount of time, would you do it?Why? Why not? Why?Why?------------------------------------------------------------------------------Welcome to Pain Relief Path! I am Dr. Pan Zhang, Physical Therapist turned Chronic Pain Coach. Having a support system is one of the best things that you can do along your pain journey. However, not all support systems are created equally, and not all support systems serve you in the way you need. In this video, we go over ways to make sure that your support system is both what you want and need to help you achieve your goals, make you feel the way you want to feel, and get you to the life you want to live. ==================================================Are you ready to stop having chronic pain dictate how you think, feel, and act?As a Chronic Pain Coach, I help my clients get their lives back, so that their pain no longer is in charge. What happens when the stress is STILL THERE after you've "managed" it?What good is the stress management if it doesn't make the stress GO AWAY?If you've asked this question, and you've tried meditation, breathing techniques, counting backwards from 100, or anything else to help you manage your stress but you feel like it "hasn't worked", it's likely your expectations are misplaced. Here's the thing with stress management techniques that most people forget: those techniques are not meant to *poof* your stress away. It's not meant to make you feel miraculously stress freeWhat they are meant to do is to help you SLOW your brain down, helps you step back, and take a real objective look at what is truly causing your stress. After you've done a few minutes of meditation or breathing, or whatever techniques suits you: now it's time to step back and take a good look at your problem now that you've dragged your brain out of that anxiety spiral of doom. Take your day one step at a time. Journal about the feeling of imposter syndrome, inadequacy, or fear of not being enough. Take a deeper dive into the REAL cause of your stress. And YES, this is definitely a PROCESS. And NO, stress doesn't just poof away. But the stress management techniques are the first steps in helping you find space to help yourself. Are you willing to try stress management techniques again and want some guidance on the follow up and follow through? Send me a DM, or feel free to email me at pan@painreliefpath.com. Looking forward to hearing from you!
Why Is change so hard? The first thing to know about the path to a pain free life is that it WILL change you, and it WILL require you to change. And this is HARD. I mean, have you tried to create new patterns and habits before...only to be able to get to about day 3 before falling back into old habits?Have you ever wondered why change is so hard?In this Wednesday Walk and Talk, I talk about WHY it's so hard to change, and provide you 3 exercises to do to start create real, long lasting, meaninful change. Also, Opal is 11 months today, so she really gets into it too, and makes that you guys hear her 2 cents as well. 👶Hope this is helpful! What is your change to a pain free life?
"What if it doesn't work?"This is the question that has stopped SO MANY people from living better, fuller, fulfilling lives.Have you had that question flit across your mind when you're presented with a new, maybe even exciting thing, gadget, or technique to help you with your chronic pain? Has this QUESTION stopped you from trying something that a large part of you is screaming at you to try?Have you even stopped to ANSWER that question? If you are stopping to answer it now, is the answer surprising to you?**Sorry about the audio quality, recorded this in my car, and even though the road noise is loud, I felt that the message was so important I still wanted to post this!
So many of us are focusing on the wrong thing. We keep focusing on what we DON'T WANT, vs. What we actually want. For example: we focus on not wanting to be in pain, vs. being able to go on that family walk after dinner with your family. We focus on not having limits with activities, vs. being focusing on being able to enjoy and be present in the moment. It's a subtle, but big difference at the same time.Shifting your focus can drastically change your outcomes, and be able to help guide you on a much happier path. How are you shifting your focus today?
Have you ever been on the giving or the receiving end of advice? Think back to the last time you were on the giving end: how did that feel in the moment? How did it feel when they didn't go with your advice, then came back days, maybe hours later venting about the same situation--how did it feel then? Now think back on the last time you were on the receiving end of advice. How did it feel to get that advice? Did it feel like it resonated; or do you feel like it wasn't quite what you were looking for, but wasn't sure why?I totally get it; and I dive into WHY that's the case, and what the alternative is on this WW&T!
In this episode of WW&T, we talk about Breathwork, why it's important, and I take you through a few breathwork exercises. It's a breath along episode!I hope this episode helps you with your pain, anxiety, frustration and fear. Want more information? Check out this article on the effect of deep slow breathing on pain: https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/21939499/Breath by James Nestor: https://a.co/d/0woPMTCI'd love to hear how these breathing techniques felt for you.
