In this episode, I talk to Whitney Whitmore, co-founder of Lily of the Valley Catholic Ministry, about the way she has used her experience of loss to help other women.Whitney experienced the death of her son, Colin, following a life-limiting diagnosis, and her experience brought her into the Catholic faith and introduced her to the Blessed Mother.  She also drew close to St. Gianna Molla, who is the patron Saint of her ministry.  Together with another mother who received a diagnosis of Down Syndrome for her daughter in utero, they formed Lily of the Valley to offer prayer and support for mothers who experience difficult pregnancies or loss. You can find more information about Lily of the Valley here.Find the support and understanding that you need to heal. I'm joined today by Emily Adams, a Catholic Mindset Coach with Metanoia Catholic and a mother of ten - four on earth and six in heaven.Emily understands the grief and pain of loss and talks about how coaching helped her to shift the thoughts she was having  surrounding her loss. In this episode, Eileen and Patrick take a look at the sixth sorrow of St. Joseph - returning from Egypt after the death of Herod. We talk about the courage it takes to keep trusting God over and over again, to continue to submit ourselves to His will when we don't know what the outcome will be. What an example St. Joseph is to us!We mention both the book we have been using throughout this series - Befriending St. Joseph: Finding Faith, Hope, and Courage in the Seven Sorrows Devotion - and the beautiful Consecration to St. Joseph book.Find the support and understanding that you need to heal. Eileen and Patrick discuss St. Joseph's fifth sorrow: the flight to Egypt. What must it have been like for St. Joseph to receive this message in a dream? What sort of faith and courage did it take for him to pack up his family, not knowing where they'd go, or for how long, and follow this path to Egypt? And what can we learn from his example in this sorrow?Join us as we reflect on this sorrow using Deacon Greg Kandra's book, Befriending St. Joseph: Finding Faith, Hope, and Courage in the Seven Sorrows Devotion. Please subscribe and leave a review. In this week's podcast episode Eileen and Patrick discuss the fourth sorrow of St. Joseph: hearing the prophecy of Simeon. We talk about the way this event seems to pull the rug out from underneath both Joseph and Mary as they enter the temple with joy and leave with sorrow.Join us as we unpack this sorrow and relate it to our own experience of child loss.Once again, the book that we are drawing from to meditate on these sorrows is called Befriending St. Joseph: Finding Faith, Hope, and Courage in the Seven Sorrows Devotion.Find more information and register for my next Online Group Retreat for grieving mothers by clicking here. Find the support and understanding that you need to heal. This week's podcast episode reflects on the third sorrow of St. Joseph: witnessing the circumcision of Jesus. Every parent knows how painful it can be to witness our child suffering, and sometimes we can be left wondering why God would allow this to happen.Join my husband, Patrick, and me as we unpack this sorrow and relate it to the loss of our children.Once again, the book that we are drawing from to meditate on these sorrows is called Befriending St. Joseph: Finding Faith, Hope, and Courage in the Seven Sorrows Devotion. Please subscribe and leave a review. Eileen and Patrick are back this week to discuss the second sorrow of St. Joseph, which was his pain at not being able to provide accommodations for his family in Bethlehem and seeing Jesus born into the poverty and squalor of a stable.Patrick is hoping to help grieving fathers to place themselves in Joseph's place in these sorrows and to emulate his example in their own experiences of sorrow from the pain of child loss.Once again, the book that we're using to help us do that is called Befriending St. Joseph: Finding Faith, Hope, and Courage in the Seven Sorrows Devotion by Deacon Greg Kandra. Please subscribe or leave a review to help other bereaved parents to find this podcast!Find the support and understanding that you need to heal. This is the first episode in a new podcast series on the Seven Sorrows of St. Joseph that I'm recording with my husband, Patrick.  Together, we'll talk about the experience of losing a child from the perspective of a father, and how men and women grieve differently.Because St. Joseph is the silent Saint, and we can't read his words, we really need to look to his example to us in scripture, and the book that we're using to help us do that is called Befriending St. Joseph: Finding Faith, Hope, and Courage in the Seven Sorrows Devotion by Deacon Greg Kandra. This week, we are looking at the first sorrow - Joseph's decision to divorce Mary and drawing on what he must have been feeling so that we can emulate him in our own experiences of sorrow. Please subscribe and leave a review to help other bereaved parents find this podcast!Find the support and understanding that you need to heal. When we are suffering, we can be tempted to the darkness of despair.  Sometimes our faith is tested and challenged, and it is the Holy Spirit who can bring the light of truth to this dark time.Have you found yourself in a season of spiritual darkness after the loss of your child? In this, the second episode of this series on the Holy Spirit, Eileen discusses why it was beneficial to us that Jesus sent us the Holy Spirit after he went away. The way that the Holy Spirit is able to be with us since Pentecost is different from the way the Spirit aided the prophets of the Old Testament. Now He indwells us and is always with us, reminding us about the glory that awaits us beyond this valley of tears.Find the support and understanding that you need to heal. Why is the Holy Spirit called the Breath of Heaven? What role does the Holy Spirit play in our suffering? How does He hold us together when we feel like we are shattered from the grief and pain of losing our child? In this episode, Eileen talks about the Holy Spirit as the Ruach that was hovering over the waters in the beginning of Genesis, how He was breathed on the disciples by Jesus, and how we now receive His indwelling during our Confirmation and the gifts we need to enable us to carry out the calling that God has for each one of us to make us like Jesus, even when we are brought through the Way of the Cross. You can read more about St. Felicitas of Rome and her seven sons here, where she says, “Do not think to frighten me by threats, or to win me by fair speeches. The spirit of God within me will not suffer me to be overcome by Satan, and will make me victorious over all your assaults.”Find the support and understanding that you need to heal. In this, the last episode of the series, Eileen discusses the seventh sword of sorrow - the burial of Jesus. She discusses how the burial of her own daughter created an emptiness, or an "undoing" in her, but that this provided an opportunity for her to join with Mary's Fiat and Jesus' prayer in Gethsemane, offering "whatever God wants."Please subscribe and leave a review.
