Have you ever felt like your wedding planning is a test that you didn’t study for?ORThat there are rules and expectations about weddings that you had no idea about until you got engaged? If so, you are not alone. The unspoken etiquette of weddings trips up a lot of unsuspecting couples and trust me when I say that more than a couple of disagreements have happened because of cross-communication and hurt feelings that come from someone intending one thing and a friend or family member taking it completely another way.I am excited to share Part 1 of my interview with Jamila Musayeva who is a certified etiquette teacher, a 3X author on etiquette, and a YouTube creator with nearly 1 Million subscribers, whose main focus is modern international etiquette.Jamila’s approach intertwines personal development, female empowerment, and cultural appreciation, and strikes a delicate balance between progressive living and preserving traditions.Today Jamila is going to teach you: · What part modern etiquette plays in weddings,· Who defines the rules of etiquette, and· Who pays for and/or organises the engagement party and wedding events.Resources: Ep22: These 3 Important First Steps In Your Wedding Planning Change EverythingJamila Musayeva YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@JamilaMusayevaJamila Musayeva Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/jamila_musayeva/Send Unbridely a 90-second audio message on Speakpipe: https://www.speakpipe.com/unbridelypodcast *The Unbridely Podcast is sponsored by its listeners. Recently, I've been chatting with some wedding planners and venue owners about the wedding vendor code and how it can impact engaged couples, just like you, as you go about choosing, booking in, questioning and receiving the products and services that are presented to you. I want you to be aware of some of the downfalls that the vendor code has so you can make sure you are getting the full story about your vendors’ capabilities, capacity and professionalism. I'd love to share with you today, first of all, what the wedding vendor code is, and secondly, the red flags you should be keeping your eye out for that might suggest that someone does not have your best interests at heart. Resources: Ep70: How To Book The Best Wedding Vendors For Your Style, Budget, and PersonalitiesSend Unbridely a 90-second audio message on Speakpipe: https://www.speakpipe.com/unbridelypodcast *The Unbridely Podcast is sponsored by its listeners. When a bridesmaid says ‘yes’ to a bride, they must communicate clearly and early about expectations for commitment, assigned responsibilities and especially the costs. But it’s also essential for the bride to be aware of what she’s really asking of her family and friends when she excitedly proposes to them to be in her wedding party in the first place. The sentiment of friendship, closeness and fun that a bride may anticipate might not be reflected in real life and at the extremes, I’ve heard of many friendships and family relationships that have ended up destroyed beyond repair when the fairytale doesn’t match what happens when money, responsibilities, time constraints and close relationships all mix into one high-pressure and emotional life-altering event. The stakes are high, people. So this week, I’m going to delve deep into:The traditional role of bridesmaids and how they've changed,Some examples of the costs you can expect as a bridesmaid,What’s reasonable as far as expectations of a bridesmaid and how to communicate that, andMy top tips for the bride and the bridesmaids they choose.RESOURCESMama Mia: https://www.mamamia.com.au/average-cost-of-being-a-bridesmaid/ CBC.ca: https://www.cbc.ca/radio/costofliving/bridesmaid-costs-1.6870502 The Knot: https://www.theknot.com/content/what-bridesmaids-pay-forSend Unbridely a 90-second audio message on Speakpipe: https://www.speakpipe.com/unbridelypodcast*The Unbridely Podcast is sponsored by its listeners. Have you ever asked yourself why you want to get married (with the subtext being, if nothing really changes anyway)? In 2019 according to the Pew Research centre:“The decision to get married is a personal one, but for most married adults, love and companionship trump other considerations such as such as the desire to have children someday, convenience or finances.”But there are some other legal aspects to consider too, including in Australia: that marriage revokes a will unless it was created ‘in contemplation of marriage’, marriage spouses automatically become each other's next of kin, income tax changes, and there could be changes in future property settlements, survivor benefits, health insurance payments and claims, custody of children, maintenance payments and even inheritance. But you want to know, when you wake up the day after your wedding, what happens then?Dating and Relationship coach, Beck Thompson, from The Relationship Circle is going to teach you:The changes couples experience once they get marriedWhy you need to work out and talk about your (sometimes) unconscious expectationsHow to start the discussion about traditional or gender roles and responsibilities, andUnderstanding the significance of changing your last name after you get married. Resources Mentioned:The Relationship Circle: https://www.therelationshipcircle.com/The Relationship Circle Podcast: https://www.buzzsprout.com/2220575The Relationship Circle on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/the_relationship_circle/The Pew Research Centre: https://www.pewresearch.org/social-trends/2019/11/06/why-people-get-married-or-move-in-with-a-partner/Marriage and your will: https://tetlowlegal.com.au/marriage-changes/What changes when we marry: https://www.celebrants.org.au/information/everyone/types-of-ceremonies/marriage-ceremonies/what-changes-when-we-marrySend Unbridely a 90-second audio message on Speakpipe: https://www.speakpipe.com/unbridelypodcast*The Unbridely Podcast is sponsored by its listeners. Given that I believe 99% of couples want these four things, this is what I'd like to get down to the crux of in this episode: feeling calm, feeling prepared, being present, and being receptive.Calm, means an internal knowing that everything is going as it should. Being prepared means that you’ve designed a ceremony that fits you and your fiancé, rather than having something pushed upon you. Being able to assert yourself ahead of time, I think is absolutely crucial. Being present in your ceremony, emotionally and also in the way that you are reacting to things. So really seeing, hearing all the senses, touching, feeling, smelling, all of those things, drinking it all in. And receptive, as in being able to reciprocate and interact with your fiancé and your guests. So in this episode, I'm gonna go through lots of little checkpoints. Some of them will really stick with you and you'll go, oh God, write that down. And some other things you might go, "I don’t even care if it's gonna happen or not". This is a bit of a workshop episode for your wedding ceremony. I hope is super valuable for you.Resources: Send Unbridely a 90-second audio message on Speakpipe: https://www.speakpipe.com/unbridelypodcast *The Unbridely Podcast is sponsored by its listeners. You want ease. You want to be surrounded by problem solvers. You want to have their technical expertise and people with great energy who will not only do their job, but help you to get excited too. You want to choose the right wedding vendor team the first time around because it’s also super uncomfortable to have to let a vendor go, and because of contracts, potentially costly as well. So to kick off this year, I'm going to teach you how to research, find, and book the best wedding vendors that align with your style, budget, and personality.  Resources Mentioned:Ep22: These 3 Important First Steps In Your Wedding Planning Change EverythingSend Unbridely a 90-second audio message on Speakpipe: https://www.speakpipe.com/unbridelypodcast*The Unbridely Podcast is sponsored by its listeners.
