Imagine you're skulking about your house. Your spouse is gone, you slink to the back door, it butts up against the forest, and you let your secret lover in to do secret lover things. The next day a creature is captured from the woods, a beast with a big mouth, a big mouth in the sense of gossip. Your affair won't remain a secret for long. I'm Tanner Campbell and this is the Dictionary of Mythology and Folklore's entry for Badalisc.

In Celtic folklore, there's no lack of familiarty with the fair folk, sometimes called the fairy folk, but this concept of magical and spritely beings living in a parallel dimension to humans, is not unique to Celtic or English folklore; being like this exist also, of example, in Malay culture. I'm Tanner Campbell and this is the Dictionary of Mythology and Folklore's entry for Orang Bunian.
Imagine you're going to be burned alive, but just before it happens a powerful witch or sorceress casts a spell over you such that you will not be harmed by the flames. Now imagine that this spell takes a certain amount of time to take effect and it doesn't take effect until nearly the end of this execution. The idea of spiritual posession is not unique across religions or mythologies, but in Jewish mythology there is a certain kind of spirit who can possess humans, animals, or even blades of grass. So long as the thing it attached itself to is a living thing, this spirit can do its work. I'm Tanner Campbell and this is the Dictionary of Mythology and Folklore's entry for "Dybbuk"

Dogs and wolves play a role in practicaly every mythological pantheon that exists. In Norse Mythology there's Sköll and Hati. In the Wales there's the Gwllgi. In Italy there's Lupa the she-wolf of Rome. In Africa there is Wepwawet of Egypt. The list goes on. And while dogs and wolves are common in the west, the further east you get the more often you are to see foxes more than wolves, or cats more than dogs, but in Korean mythology there is a type of dog that plays a central role in the cosmology of the world. I'm Tanner Campbell, and this is the Dictionary of Mythology and Folklore's entry for the Bulgae of Korean Mythology.

Imagine the sea foam smashing against the bow of your ship, speckles of ocean water hitting your face. You look up, and there's an island of beautiful women just waiting to welcome you, or men, if you prefer, though that's not how this story goes, and you disembark onto the beach to spend what you think is a few months, at most a year, but then... you realize either you're really bad at math, or something fishy is going on. I'm Tanner Campbell, and this is the Dictionary of Mythology and Folklore's entry for "Bran."
