Listen to this one-of-a-kind episode of my podcast, Coffee Conversations with Author Heena, where I talk to Miss Alameda Jessica Jane Robinson, a pageant winner, social worker and environmental activist, about her environmental superhero book Resilience: Birthright.Jessica Jane Robinson aka superhero Resilience attended the University of San Francisco, receiving her BA degree in Performing Arts and Social Justice with a minor in dance. Jessica participated as Miss Alameda in the 2010 and 2011 Miss California USA pageants. As Miss Alameda, she founded the grassroots program, "Miss Alameda Says Compost!" helping the City of Alameda address its Climate Protection Plan adopted in 2008 and helping it reach its diversion goals by 2020. Ms. Robinson has been an Al Gore Climate Leader since August 2012, is in the top 1% out of 10,812 Climate Leaders around the world, and has presented to over 17,130 people (2017). She has served on the Board of Directors for the Northern California Recycling Association since 2013, served as treasurer from 2013-2016, Vice President from 2017-2022, and is currently the President.Resilience: Birthright is different from other comics; it encourages fans to become leaders who actively reduce climate change, pollution, and the depletion of natural resources.These stories are based on real heroes who help restore our planet and address actual environmental challenges through fictional storytelling and characters.BONUS: Author Robinson talks about her schedule of waking up at 5:00 am (sometimes even 4) and shares how she manages to juggle between her work and passion for saving the environment and how she has brought everything together in this series of illustrated environmental graphic novels. Listen to this persuasive and insightful episode of my podcast, Coffee Conversations with Author Heena, where I talk to author Bowen Blair about his biography A Force for Nature: Nancy Russell's Fight to Save the Columbia Gorge.Bowen Blair is one of the United States' leading experts at conveying conservation land into public and tribal ownership. As senior vice president at Trust for Public Land (TPL) responsible for land acquisition, Blair oversaw the conveyance into public ownership of approximately two hundred transactions valued at half a billion dollars annually. He started TPL’s Oregon office, managed its Northwest and Midwest regions, and founded TPL’s Tribal and Native Lands Program, which acquired two hundred thousand acres for seventy tribes. Before his two-decade stint at TPL, Blair served as executive director for Friends of the Columbia Gorge where he negotiated and helped lead the lobbying effort to pass, the Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area Act. After leaving TPL, Blair and current National Park Service director Chuck Sams founded Indian Country Conservancy, America’s only national nonprofit focused on returning conservation land to tribes, to help reverse a century of federal policies dispossessing tribes of their lands.
