Description

Are you a coach who's afraid to use the "T" word (Trauma) on your calls? Or you that trauma is a thing, that it happens, but not much more (because you’re not sure if you want to know more)? If any of this resonates (or you just want to know more about how, as coaches, we can support clients carrying trauma), this podcast is for you. Bringing our lack of understanding into the light is necessary to support ourselves—and clients—during calls. Now coach, I am NOT HERE to induce fear or paralysis in your coaching—bleh. I am here to help you 1) see what you’re potentially not seeing, 2) reaffirm 10000% that you absolutely can do something about it, and 3) reinforce the notion that we all start somewhere (it’s ok to be where you’re at right now)! There is SO MUCH you can do to support clients carrying trauma—as well as understanding the limitations we have as coaches—so that they can receive the care they are in search of. I believe that being Trauma-Informed is an Essential Standard of Care for every coach in the coaching industry. I have a vision of every coach being Trauma-Informed.

In today’s episode, we delve into the concept of "relationship spirals," where partners get trapped in unhealthy behavioral patterns. Through societal conditioning, women often feel pressured to support their partners' success, leading to self-identification based on their partner's behavior. Conversely, men may internalize beliefs that tie their worth to their ability to make their partners happy. These conflicting expectations create tension and a sense of helplessness in relationships. By becoming aware of these patterns and untangling codependent behaviors, partners can cultivate a healthier, more interdependent dynamic. Join us as we explore how to break free from relationship knots and foster a more balanced exchange of energy and support.Want more help with this? Humans experience circumstances vastly differently. One person can internalize an event as traumatic while someone else who experiences the same doesn't. What is this all about? What is the difference between primary and secondary trauma? Does it matter? Which type of trauma tends to remain unseen (people don't recognize a need to get support after the traumatic event(s))? As a coach (or any human), it's important to be aware of--especially with respect to current events. In this episode you’ll learn:What primary and secondary trauma is.Why we sometimes fail to recognize or acknowledge trauma,Signs to help you recognize secondary trauma,More about secondary trauma I've been healing from, andSocietal expectations that condition us to minimize or ignore our trauma.Lindsay’s current program offerings: Are you a Certified Coach looking to deepen your skillset by Becoming Trauma-Informed? I used to think I had to be thinner to go to the gym. That sneaky, perfectionistic belief can pop up in surprising ways with self-investment. I’ve had many clients come to me ashamed that they weren’t making “enough” money as a coach or didn’t have “enough” clients. In today’s episode I talk about this perfectionism and what it can look like, and ask questions to help you consider if money is one of the things holding you back from investing in yourself. We then talk about what beliefs you might need to release to open yourself up to receiving everything you’re deserving of. You don’t have to have everything figured out perfectly before investing, or going to the gym, or starting or doing the new thing you want to do.In this episode you'll learn about:How that perfectionism can show up,Questions to consider if money is holding you back, andBeliefs you may need to release to open yourself up to receiving.Lindsay’s current program offerings: Are you a Certified Coach looking to deepen your skillset by Becoming Trauma-Informed? Today’s episode is a really powerful conversation with my dear friend, Hailee. Some organizations, religions, or systems like to promise certainty. “Do things this way, and then you’ll get that result”. But what if it doesn’t work that way for all people? We are multidimensional beings, so it makes sense that different things will work for different people. Hailee and I discuss the before and after deconstructing that idea that there’s one tool or one way to heal and get the results you want. As humans, we crave certainty. But at what cost? Hailee bravely shares how scary it can be to lean into your intuition but when you do, it can bring so much goodness, knowledge, beauty, and healing into the world.Connect with Hailee:Website: https://www.haileemae.com/Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/haileemaecoaching/Lindsay’s current program offerings: Are you a Certified Coach looking to deepen your skillset by Becoming Trauma-Informed? When not processed or acknowledged, trauma can impact our whole body. Body, mind, brain, nervous system, all of it. Today’s episode will explain and illustrate examples of how this can happen and affect us mentally, physically, and spiritually. This is why simply being a Certified Coach in 2024 isn't cutting it. Clients are smarter consumers and demanding/expecting more. This is one reason why being trauma-informed matters, so we can meet clients where they're at. Are you one of these coaches opting into more than mindset work? If so, make sure you tune in for my special announcement and how you can take this work to the next level [pssstt! You’ve probably heard the phrase, “Things get worse before they get better”. Today’s episode is all about contraction. That tightening or slinging back we often experience before slinging forward. If you’ve been hustling and learned how to successfully run your business, but you can tell it’s not sustainable… this episode is for you. Supporters need support too, and I’ve found that many coaches need support in making sure that they're taking care of themselves so that they can sustainably continue to run their practice or business in a way that's aligned for them. I started a hybrid version of my Advanced Relationship Trauma Certification for those who want that extra, personalized support for themselves and in turn, their clients; and in this episode I describe the benefits and also share a few clips from Molly Claire, an alumnus of this program. Have you ever been in conversations with people that you couldn’t be fully present for, and you're not sure why? Or vice versa? What about as a coach, have you had calls with your clients where it feels like you aren't getting through or connecting and you're not sure why?  If so, you’re in good company. Today I’m speaking about a concept called the Window of Tolerance. Understanding this will support you in becoming more aware of your own optimal space for learning and using mindset work to your advantage. It will also help you see when to drop mindset models that aren't helping you or your clients.  In this episode you’ll learn:What the window of tolerance is,What it looks like to be above or below your window of tolerance,And what you can do to get out of that hyper or hypo arousal state; All so that you can meet your clients where they're at to achieve the results they're looking for. And don't forget about you! Understanding this for yourself is paramount in creating the sustainable dream life you're deserving of. Lindsay’s current program offerings: Are you a Certified Coach looking to deepen your skillset by Becoming Trauma-Informed? The coaching industry is full of people touting that "Your results come from your thinking," "All problems are a thought problem," that's "Just a thought," etc. While these can be ways to consider the thoughts we have, it needs to be presented properly to clients in order to reduce and/eliminate harm as coaches. In todays podcast episode, listen in to find out:Where coaches using a one-dimensional (aka linear modeled) approach can mess this up,What thoughts actually can be,What thoughts aren't, and A few new ways to consider thoughts that come into you or your clientele's consciousness. Are you wanting to get a hold of my "Gardener's Guide to Thinking?" What a gift it was to learn from ARTC Alumnus Meagan Skidmore as she shares more about what her experience has been supporting a child as he has shifted how he identifies. Meagan shares what her journey has been as a devout christian and how she her awareness of her expanded nuance has shifted over the years. How her love for her children and others has grown through these experiences, and how compassionate she has been towards past versions of herself that used to think differently. She speaks to how this experience led her to see the importance of becoming trauma-informed not only for herself, but for her relationships, clients, and more.  She also provides a few tips on how to better support members of the LGBTQIA+ community. This episode is a must-listen, as I think it's essential to understand how to support our marginalized teens, adolescents, and adults in this space. Lindsay’s current program offerings: Are you a Certified Coach looking to deepen your skillset by Becoming Trauma-Informed? This episode comes from a place of grief for the loss of a friend's child, feeling sadness for my friends, sadness for tragedies in the world, and raising awareness about how we unconsciously dehumanize ourselves and others. Intellectualization can be a part of this--which is what I speak to today. When we ignore our own inner knowing to others due to someone’s degree, status, or title...what happens? Are we forgetting about our humanity? On the flip side, when we hierarchize ourselves and place ourselves above others, are we dehumanizing them? Intellectual, logical thinking is incredible. It set's us apart from other primates. However, when we lock into the cognitive mind so much that it cuts us off from accessing our heart . . . then what? And . . . how does this apply in the coaching industry? There are plenty of 'brain experts' who use cognitive understanding and one-dimensional coaching. This can be a great place to start; however, it is limited to what we can see, intellectualize, analyze, and understand right now. The intelligence of our bodies, our intuition, our souls, goes SO MUCH DEEPER and is limitless. Instead of hierarchize-ing cognitive work over body work, what if we can layer both over each other?  In this episode you’ll learn:A personal example of where a degree or letters next to a name aren’t the end all, be all.How intellectualizing can be a form of dehumanization.Honoring the importance of cognitive tools AND body-led intuition. The possibility and hope I see for the world. If you want to learn more about this topic, subscribe to get the Problem With Privilege webinar with a FREE Privilege and Oppression mini-workbook.Lindsay’s current program offerings: Are you a Certified Coach looking to deepen your skillset by Becoming Trauma-Informed? For women, anger is often looked at as something negative that we need to keep hidden. This chronic suppression over time can have emotional and physical effects on our body. Today my dear friend and colleague,  Jill Freestone, is here to dissolve some myths with me. What if: Anger is actually a beautiful messenger? Anger isn't always a secondary emotion? Anger is an informer when our values or boundaries are being crossed?Anger can and is meant to be channeled in beautiful, effective, POWERFUL ways?  Jill is an alumnus of my Advanced Relationship Trauma Certification for Coaches. She is an anxiety and emotions coach for teens and adults. To put it lightly, Jill. Knows. Her. Stuff.  When clients come to her needing support with anger, she helps her clients learn to develop a love for their anger and eliminate the shame around experiencing it.  Doing this creates fertile ground for sustainable healing to occur. Can you see why I'm such a FAN? If you’ve ever experienced anger (hi, that’s all of us) and felt shame around it, this episode is for you.In this episode we discuss:The definition of anger (might be different than you think). How to get your body involved to process anger. How anger can actually be beneficial or helpful to you.Physical signs (and misdiagnoses) of anger.Externalized and internalized anger.Tips to integrate this new way of viewing and thinking about anger.Connect with Jill:WebsiteInstagramLindsay’s current program offerings: Are you a Certified Coach looking to deepen your skillset by Becoming Trauma-Informed? Kathy Kinghorn has been a trauma therapist for over 13 years, and was a facilitator in my first Advanced Relationship Trauma Certification for Coaches. In this conversation, we discuss the differences and similarities between trauma therapy and trauma coaching and touch on when’s the right time for one or the other. For some, coaching might be the thing that prepares someone for therapy. For others, therapy might come before coaching and sometimes people can benefit from both.  We also talk about the disconnect between some therapists and coaches and how we envision that relationship between the two professions in the future. Our goal is what’s in the best interest for our clients’ healing and growth. In this episode we discuss:The difference between trauma therapy and trauma coachingWhen’s the right time for working with a coachRecognizing that healing isn’t linearThe importance of safetyHow we envision the relationship between therapists and coachesHierarchies and barriers to entryHow a collaborative effort can be in the BEST interest of our clients. What really matters when it comes to sustainable healing.Referenced in the episode:Felt Sense EpisodeConnect with Kathy:WebsiteFacebookLindsay’s current program offerings: Are you a Certified Coach looking to deepen your skillset by Becoming Trauma-Informed?
