Lynda Hopkins a progressive politician currently running unopposed for a third term and perhaps final term as Sonoma County District 5 Supervisor ( Comprising West County and the Coast North from Bodega ).She began her career as a mother, small farmer, local journalist, activist, and student of progressive party. With those strengths and illusions she entered the political process at the beginning of an 8 year stretch of County emergencies. She is now a settled incumbent with a sophisticated, operable understanding of how this County works - or, more often fails to.Considering the end of her political career she is, perhaps, at a greater freedom to talk about the real complexity of political machinations and the limits of government led change. She invited me to ask difficult questions and I did my best to oblige.WEBSITES: Hopkins District 5 : https://sonomacounty.ca.gov/district5CA County Board of Supervisors : https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Board_of_supervisorsPress Democrat Articles with Hopkins: https://www.pressdemocrat.com/search/?q=Lynda+hopkinsRe-Election Website: https://lyndaforsupervisor.com/

I had the sharp pleasure of sharing some slow time with Luz Navarrette in the bizzy run-up to the 23rd Annual Dia de los Muertos celebration on Santa Rosa's Courthouse Square. The two day observance, held every November 1st and 2nd, invites the entire community to participate in this centerpiece and altar of the Mexican culture of death and grieving. Strictly non-commercial and deeply reverent, this celebration which Luz first organized in the aftermath of 9/11, has been a place of cathartic release, reunion, and joy for the living and the departed.Listen and learn about how she sanctifies the ground, constructs an altar, and invites her dear departed to give her help and guidance and to remain a living part of her life.Listen, and be comforted.https://www.facebook.com/santarosadiadelosmuertos/https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Day_of_the_Dead
Miguel Elliott is a local visionary attempting to revive one our most ancient building practices cob construction ( similar to Adobe or Daub and Waddle ) to alleviate our environmental and housing crises in one beautiful and economical solution.Although we are stuck on one conventional material process of building ( that is expensive, unsustainable, and highly toxic when burned ), cob construction is a compelling alternative, capable of producing the entire city-set of practical structures ( even six story towers ! ). And rather than be dependent on Corporate and vast dubious global supply chains, cob-construction could make Sonoma County self -dependant and sovereign by turning our subsoil, straw, and sea shells (lime) into an unlimited and cheap building resource! We can live off and in the land ! These cob structures are water-proof, fire proof, and earthquake resistant! And if properly maintained, they can last a thousand years! Amazing!Listen and be inspired by Miguel's vision! And reach out to him, he's local and happy to sell his skills and teach what he knows!WEBSITES:https://www.livingearthstructures.com/https://www.instagram.com/sir_cobalot/https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cob_(material)
[ interview starts at 3:50]An interview with the Editor of The Bohemian and The Pacific Sun Daedalus Howell in three parts! In the part first, Daedalus and Cincinnatus discuss his upcoming film shot entirely in Sonoma County, Wolf Story! It is a werewolf adventure romantic comedy that uses fiction and fantasy to impart grounded truths about life changes, identity and growing older. In the second part, they elaborate Howell's lengthy and varied career with dozens of roles in film and newspapers, which can nevertheless be simplified into career "story-teller." Daedalus gives something of his philosophic perspective on story and story tellers and myth-makers and how story imparts instructions about how to be a human being. In the third part of the interview, Daedalus talks about his role and responsibility as editor of two of the North Bay's most impactful newspapers. They discuss the master narrative of Sonoma County and whether it is true or false, empowering or despairing.Main Website: https://daedalushowell.com/Daedalus Howell Articles: https://muckrack.com/daedalushowellQuantum Deadline Book Trailer : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aojkAfWq3Y0Pill Head Film Trailer : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aojkAfWq3Y0The North Bay Bohemian : https://bohemian.com/
Corporations are massive engines. And in the current economy they are massive engines of exploitation and ecological destruction. But could they be retooled as massive engines of ecological and societal healing. In his episode Matt Jorgensen talks about Stewardship Trusts. Within which the intention of corporations can be permanently and irrevocably rewritten - from profit maximization for a sole owner or group of shareholders to ecological restoration maximization for a community, or whatever pro-social intention the current owners or founders choose to set ( social justice or prison reform or funded scholarships or tiny homes for the homeless, the list goes on ).Matt also delves into the innerwork necessary to heal and transform capitalism from within and let go of control, power, or generational wealth.Have a listen about this hugely important topic.WEBSITES :https://www.joysong.co/https://www.linkedin.com/in/mattjorgensen1/
I could listen to Joe, rapt, for hours on end, as he speaks with one of the most beautiful and prized American accents - the Italian South Philly sound. Joe is an all around  host and entertainer, and together we tell three great strands of his story through the development of his three performance forms - drummer and conga player,  swing dancer, and background talent ( film extra ) in some of the biggest films filmed in the North Bay! One of the more fascinating through lines in his story from Philly to Sonoma is how the basic conditions of the Sicilian village were recreated in the Americas - first in So. Philly's little Italy, and again in the conditions of a big Hollywood film production.WEBSITE: www.facebook.com/joe.senteneri
