Description

In this rewatch podcast, Teresa and Jess take a trip down memory lane to examine the Nickelodeon show Hey Dude, which ran from 1989 to 1991. Each week we discuss another episode of this, dare we say, iconic Nick series, bringing humor, history, and some 90s nostalgia.

We can't believe it, but it's already time for the season 4 finale! The whole gang (minus Lucy) is on the ranch now--basically there are teens EVERYWHERE. Find out what happens when Ted and Melody miss the fact that their fellow teens' plots to kill Mr. Ernst are not, in fact, earnest, but rather a brilliant money-making scheme for the ranch. Jess takes us on a wiki-etymology-ish adventure, and Teresa shares the embarrassing story that caused her to move to outer space. Follow us on social media!@yaydudecast on Instagramyaydudecast@gmail.com
When money troubles come calling again (to the Bar None switchboard), a familiar face might be the key to solving all of Mr. Ernst's woes. Prost Graham Yost? Decide for yourself. Also, is Mr. Peanut wealthy? Follow us on social media!@yaydudecast on Instagramyaydudecast@gmail.com
This week's episode has a temporarily blind Mr. Ernst trying to hit on his nephew whom he mistakes for a ranch critic. Jake ropes Danny into doing drag with him to try to save his job after he flips a burger in a lady's face, and boy can those two pull it off! Note: it took us about a month to make this one because Teresa had some "technical difficulties," so it's a couple of takes stitched together. Follow us on social media!@yaydudecast on Instagramyaydudecast@gmail.com
Oh boy. The Vlecks are back. Jess and T did a lot of Googling random things to avoid watching this one. Look, we LOVE Hey Dude, but Val Vleck comes in a little hot. And she tries to heat things up even more with Mr. Ernst to make Vick jealous. Thankfully Jake is studying psychology.  Follow us on social media!@yaydudecast on Instagramyaydudecast@gmail.com
In this week's episode, Danny helps everyone on the ranch learn what it means to do the right thing (what? That's the title of the episode!) when an archeologist comes to town with his trowel and uncovers remains from Danny's ancestors. There's also some levity as Jake and Buddy go hunting for a lake monster. This was a very special episode to say the least.Follow us on social media!@yaydudecast on Instagramyaydudecast@gmail.com
Ted's back. I don't really think we need to say much more than that. Follow us on social media!@yaydudecast on Instagramyaydudecast@gmail.com
We blew it! This is the episode we should have released last week, but we were just TOO excited about Ted returning. But before that can happen, Kyle needs to remind us why you can't just cut Ted in half. We really identify with Mr. Ernst in this one as he deals with a midlife existential crisis. Thankfully, the girls know just how to cheer him up.Follow us on social media!@yaydudecast on Instagramyaydudecast@gmail.com
Brad is feeling like a real dud. She's all set to lead the Young Buckaroos on an overnight, but it turns out, she needs someone more FUN to go with her--Kyle. What happens when these rascally little buckaroos get loose in the desert at night? And what does ChatGPT have to say about it all? Happy belated 100s Day, everyone! Follow us on social media!@yaydudecast on Instagramyaydudecast@gmail.com
Season 4 Ep 5: Fear

Season 4 Ep 5: Fear

What is more exciting to an audience of 7-10 year olds than a plot about an insurance actuary? This one comes to us from Mr. Yost himself, so it's actually quite thrilling. Everyone on the ranch needs to get certified to life guard. One problem...Brad can't swim (or she can, kinda?). This is a fun one...you know, as stories about insurance premiums tend to be!Follow us on social media!@yaydudecast on Instagramyaydudecast@gmail.com
Why is Danny about to be the ranch's newest little champion? Well, turns out he is an incredibly talented cartoonist, even though somehow no one on the ranch knew about it. But things go south once his friends find out he's using their likenesses for his DUD RANCH comic strip. How can they teach him a lesson?  Also, take a trip to Etymology Corral and hear about our favorite comic strips.Follow us on social media!@yaydudecast on Instagramyaydudecast@gmail.com
Season 4 Ep 3: Magnum Ernst

What happens when the sheriff has to have hemorrhoid surgery? Well, he gives his gun to Mr. Ernst, of course! Check out the episode that taught most of us about entrapment. Also, hear from the boys over at Whiskeylodeon! They joined us to talk about this wild episode, and it was great fun. Follow us on social media!@yaydudecast on Instagramyaydudecast@gmail.com
What a sweet episode! Brad befriends a boy at T.R.O.T. ( a real place! Look it up!) and is then inspired by her dear friend Melody to do something really selfless. Gosh we love Brad. And the rest of the gang pretends they're reindeer. I'm pretty sure we figured out where Joe Torres is too. Hint: he really likes cookies. Follow us on social media!@yaydudecast on Instagramyaydudecast@gmail.com
You know what? Enough is enough. We're back from hiatus with a VERY special episode. Not only did we have to watch this one on DVD for some unbeknownst reason, but we also watched it TOGETHER....IN TUCSON! That's right, we visited the scene of the crime, the ol' Bar None Ranch (at the beautiful Tanque Verde Ranch). We got some hard-hitting interviews with horses and all around just had a blast. Then we went to THE Ramada Inn before T's flight the next morning and had the creepiest stay ever. But we did get a chance to record this episode from our hotel room which clearly hasn't been updated since the teens moved out in 1989. THIS TRIP WAS SO AMAZING and we're so excited to share it with you. Welcome back to Yay Dude for season 4!!Follow us on social media!@yaydudecast on Instagramyaydudecast@gmail.com
We need another boy at the ranch, and he better be cute and also a bit of a jerk and also have the hots for Brad! This is the season 3 finale, and we finally get to meet Kyle! We also meet Lucy's old flame, Bill (a different, different Bill). Plus, Jess and T make a very exciting purchase. Follow us on social media!@yaydudecast on Instagramyaydudecast@gmail.com
A child is left alone at the ranch by her terrible parents and only Buddy is able to see her for what she is--a literal psychopath. Prost, Graham Yost, this one is a nonstop thrill ride. Also find out what AI thinks should be the chapter titles to Jake's Guide to Life! Follow us on social media!@yaydudecast on Instagramyaydudecast@gmail.com
This is quite the VSE (very special episode). Melody's brother Billy comes to visit the Bar None, and it quickly becomes evident that he is struggling with alcohol. It gets pretty heavy, to be honest. Make sure to listen to this one with a trusted adult! And we make a very special visit to Corrections Trough. Also, I don't think we really cuss in this one, if you can believe it! Follow us on social media!@yaydudecast on Instagramyaydudecast@gmail.com
Mr. Ernst got himself in a real pickle this time, and it turns out the only way out of it is to wrestle Captain Lou Albano (a real guy, I guess?). This one is a real slapstick adventure, so Jess rightfully takes us to the Etymology Corral. We also discuss what we think we did to get ourselves put in social media jail...and we could be onto something. Follow us on social media!@yaydudecast on Instagramyaydudecast@gmail.com
The NICEST friend, Melody, gets pushed to the brink by Danny and Brad. And then some old phone company ladies are kind of mean to her about it (based on Jess's etymology research). Thankfully Jake comes to her aid with some cognitive behavioral therapy to help her start saying "no" more often.  Also, what's Montel Williams up to? Follow us on social media!@yaydudecast on Instagramyaydudecast@gmail.com
Buddy tries to trick his mom (star of Hey Dude) and dad into getting back together with a fancy dinner hosted by the teens. But not if Melody and her crossed arms have anything to say about it! Also, why are they called "eye teeth," and is this a very special episode? Follow us on social media!@yaydudecast on Instagramyaydudecast@gmail.com
Some jerks down the road are damming up the creek, and now Mr. Ernst and a team full of children have to play baseball about it. Mr. Ernst confronts the truth about his greatest shame in order to save the ranch from becoming a mud bog. Find out the benefits of athletic jeans and what Jess did with her old trophies. Follow us on social media!@yaydudecast on Instagramyaydudecast@gmail.com
