Is well-being best achieved in accepting what is, or in passionately engaging in what is yet to be? Technology lawyer and writer Fred Pinto links counterintuitive findings from philosophy, wisdom studies, and psychology to tease out the idea that finding ourselves comes as a result of losing our firmly held ideas of ourselves first. In a modern world that encourages self-obsession, this talk is for everyone who wants to achieve more authentic forms of acceptance and transcendence.  This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. For more podcasts, check out https://fredpinto.com/podcast or subscribe to Fred's Substack.

Why Purpose is Personal is a TEDx talk I gave at the TEDxYouth @ Sunset Beach event in Vancouver on September 9th 2022. The core question I wanted to answer was: why is the advice of gurus and experts often so unsatisfying when it comes to finding true purpose in life? This quest took me to the emerging science of meaning and purpose, which invites us to take a radical leap forward to a truly “n of one” approach to our lives. In other words, meaning isn’t general, or theoretical: it’s personal. You can access a PDF with the sources and references I refer to in this talk by subscribing to my Substack (https://fredpinto.substack.com/about) here (https://fredpinto.com/sources-references-why-purpose-is-personal-tedx-talk/). For more podcasts, check out https://fredpinto.com/podcast or subscribe to Fred's Substack.
