CIEL has commissioned this report to inform debate about nitrogen use efficiency and its relevance to environmental stewardship and food security. Nitrogen, an essential element for making plant and animal protein, is widely used in agriculture to drive productivity. However, its inefficient use can lead to losses through nitrate leaching or emissions (ammonia and/or nitrous oxide), leading to negative environmental impacts. As we seek to define and shift to a more sustainable food system, both nitrogen emissions and the value livestock add by providing superior protein food sources must be considered.CIEL's Dr Mark Young and Katerina Karpasitou discuss CIEL's New report, and why Nitrogen is so important to livestock productionDownload the report herePublish date: 21 SeptemberMusic By Audiocoffee
