Description

In the year 2016, Hollywood forgot how to make films, and we've been living in a creative landfill ever since. Dialogue has been thrust into the hands of Whedon try-hards, plots are about as flimsy as environmentally friendly straws, and editing to under a 120-minute runtime is a thing of the past. We're putting a stop to that. Join us as we deep-dive into plot holes, charisma-sucking characters, disgraceful dialogue and beyond. MTV may have canned Pimp My Ride, but that won't stop us renovating Hollywood, one movie at a time. Welcome to Pimp My Writers' Room – with Daniel and Anjelika.

In this episode, we conclude season one!https://www.instagram.com/pimpmywritersroom/
*Spoiler Warning* In this episode, we take it back to the French Revolution. To a time when men were men and women were prostitutes. A time before Logan got the Adamantium in injections, when stealing a loaf of bread was a life-ruining offence. Do you like musicals? Do you like Susan Boyle? How could you not? The French girls are sad and taking their politicians to task.https://www.instagram.com/pimpmywritersroom/
In this episode, we dive into X-Men: Apocalypse, one of now many prequels to the original early 2000's X-Men trilogy. Mohito Magneto and Simper Xavier are back, played by Michael 'the Last' Fassbender and James 'the Boys' McAvoy, respectively. So, tell me, when I say 'X-Men', do you think of ancient Egyptian gods? No? Well, sorry but that's what you're getting.https://www.instagram.com/pimpmywritersroom/
*Spoiler Warning*  In this episode, we discover what was happening in the summer of '97, in the famed teenage slasher flick, I Know What You Did Last Summer. What happened last summer? Horny teenagers and traffic collisions. You know, the works. The four horsemen of the teen flick apocalypse are here - FPJ, SMG, JLH and Ryan Filipe who disappointingly doesn't have a middle name. Featuring – references to Resident Evil 2, reaches for the term 'lug wrench' and some serious creaming over Sarah Michelle-Gellar.https://www.instagram.com/pimpmywritersroom/
*Spoiler Warning* In this episode, we pop down the old green pipe to see how our favourite Italian plumber is doing. As a half-Italian podcast, we have a lot to say about the representation of Mario and Luigi in the mainstream, as well as the strange anthropomorphising of mushrooms? Look, it's a weird film because it's a weird franchise and Nintendo cares only about having fun – not explaining itself. So buckle in for an episode featuring Chris Cornell Bowser, Jason Statham Mario, Peaches' Peaches and the simp army.https://www.instagram.com/pimpmywritersroom/
*Spoiler Warning* In this episode, we roll the dice on Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves, adapting the beloved if a little unspecified source material of the Dungeons & Dragons tabletop role-playing game, in which, players fight dragons in dungeons and are generally at the sole disposal of the 'dungeon master'. Said, 'dungeon master' is usually an eclectic individual whose tastes are described as 'singular' and who seems to go through secretaries quite quickly. What does all of that have to do with Chris Pine? Listen to find out.https://www.instagram.com/pimpmywritersroom/
*Spoiler Warning* In this episode, we remember Reylo, the infamous on-screen coupling of Kylo Ren and Rey Palpatine. Despite not knowing much about Star Wars, we know that #Reylo was a movement that swept the world and divided fanbases. So, is the shipment all it's cracked up to be? We find out in the penultimate Star Wars film, in which the only people who die are already dead, either in the canon or in real life, and in which we have to keep track of a family tree more complex and incestuous than European royalty. Featuring nostalgia bait, posthumous deepfakes and Rey being an asshole.https://www.instagram.com/pimpmywritersroom/
*Spoiler Warning*In this episode, we take trip down prehistoric lane in '65' –  a new film starring Adam Driver and Ariana Greenblatt. Take Jurassic Park, then remove everything except the dinosaurs. Take The Last of Us, then remove everything except the surrogate father-daughter relationship. Then set that rather gaunt and skeletal description in pre-historic earth, savaged by dinosaurs, untamed by man, yet, tainted by the one and only Kylo Ren. Featuring, almost exclusively, us begging for Bear Grylls to rescue them from survivalist ineptitude.https://www.instagram.com/pimpmywritersroom/
In this episode, Daniel and Anni enrol in Sky High – a high school for superhero teenagers and a superhero film from Disney's pre-Marvel era. How exactly would this loveable but dorky film fare, trying to fit in with the other kids attending the Fifth Phase of MCU High? In answering that question, this podcast has introduced LRH technology to over one billion people of Earth. Featuring questionable ages of consent, that awful Disney "sheen" and for some reason Kurt Russell in a fairly major role.https://www.instagram.com/pimpmywritersroom/
*Spoiler Warning* In this episode of Pimp My Writers' Room, we tackle Ocean's Eight, a largely unsolicited and rather belated sequel to the previous Ocean's trilogy. Brother Ocean is dead, and standing strongly and independently in his place is Sister Ocean, played by Sandra Bollocks herself. Sister Ocean must assemble a gang of gals to take the biggest heist of their lives. Why? Because she's mad at her ex-boyfriend. I think.Sorry about the rain at the very end!https://www.instagram.com/pimpmywritersroom/
*Spoiler Warning* In this episode, we enter the quantum realm in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, the official kick-off for Phase 5 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Does anyone know what happened in Phase 4? Nothing of consequence apparently. But don't worry, because Paul Rudd and his extended family are here to save the world. Actually, they're here to destroy the world, and then save it, but anyway. Don't worry about the details. Featuring Kang the Conquerer, Lang the Ant, the extended Ant Fam, and an Alien Ant Farm.https://www.instagram.com/pimpmywritersroom/
*Spoiler Warning*In this episode, we live long and prosper – is that the right reference? To infinity and beyond? – in a film franchise suffering from severe oversaturation. Solo – A Star Wars Story, or as it could equally be named Solo: Origins, explains and retcons and the life and times of beloved space 'cowdoy' Han Solo. A long the way we encounter a bipedal woolie mammoth, the Boomer Falcon, and Darth Maul's double-ended hog. What a time to be alive?https://www.instagram.com/pimpmywritersroom/
*Spoiler Warning* In this episode of Pimp My Writers' Room, we go spinning off into space with a the Toy Story spin-off Lightyear from last year. Not a film that seemed to have made much of a splash at all, we thought we ought to show Buzz some love and see what his film was all about. And find that out we did. Lightyear (2022) features1 cute animatronic kitties, retcons, threadbare characters, the one and only Chris Heavens and an alarming amount of fascist apologism.https://www.instagram.com/pimpmywritersroom/
*Spoiler Warning*  In this episode, we do something a little different. We go back. I'm talking pre-collapse era of Hollywood, pre-2016, to compare how the terrible movies of yesteryear differ from the distinctly more terrible movies of today. The movie in question? DOA: Dead or Alive. It's stupid, sexy, and fun. We talk sexual politics, the chicks in 2006, thigh gaps and simp armies.https://www.instagram.com/pimpmywritersroom/
*Spoiler Warning*In this episode, we discuss our first Zack Snyder film on the podcast – Batman v Superman. The premise is simple, who would win in a physical confrontation? An immortal alien god, or a Wall Street CEO with daddy issues... Or a young and eccentric tech CEO who also has daddy issues? Or a giant goblin? Or Wonder Woman and her overly enthusiastic leitmotif? Like I said, simple.https://www.instagram.com/pimpmywritersroom/
*Spoiler Warning*In this episode, we take on Underworld: Blood Wars. Did any of us even know that there was a new film out in this franchise? We sure didn't. What we do know, however, is that Anni features today as our resident vampire expert. Blood Wars also brings back boss bitch Beckinsdale, in a betrayal bonanza featuring boy toys, vampire academy, and Daniel's perpetual desire for tea.https://www.instagram.com/pimpmywritersroom/
*Spoiler Warning*In this auspicious episode of Pimp My Writer's Room, we welcome our first guest. Unfortunately, James Cameron got caught in traffic and sends his regards. So instead, friend of the show and indie director, Oisin O'Connell kindly dropped by the studio to talk with us about Avatar: Waterworld. Pandora has been invaded once again and the Sully's need a vacation. This ostensible war film features road trips, grumpy teenagers, interspecial bigotry, about seven subplots that go nowhere and new sexy blue Colonel. So hook your pony tail up to your podcast platform of choice and let Eywa probe us all.https://www.instagram.com/pimpmywritersroom/
*Spoiler Alert*In this episode, we get frantic and fearful with the furry swashbuckling feline himself – Puss In Boots. In his second theatrical outing in his own franchise, Puss In Boots must reckon with having almost used up all of his nine lives. How many lives did we use getting through this film? Only one way to find out! Prepare yourself for fur, furrybait, surprisingly competent character drama, therapy dogs and sexy, sexy wolf villains.https://www.instagram.com/pimpmywritersroom/
*Spoiler Warning*In this episode, we push into the untamed frontier of Star Trek: Beyond, the 13th ever Star Trek theatrical film and the 10th directorial effort of Justin Lin – best known for putting the 'F' in 'Family' in the Fast & Furious films. Listen as we tackle such truly confounding questions as "Is Idris Elba a Trekkie?" and "Has Star Trek predicted the return of the Motorola flip phone?". Live long and prosper off of this IP. https://www.instagram.com/pimpmywritersroom/
*Spoiler Warning*In today's episode, we check out the fifth in the Ghostbusters franchise, Ghostbusters: Afterlife. Why "Afterlife" as the subtitle instead of the usual "Resurrection"? Because after enduring the 120 minute runtime we can confirm that this franchise is, in fact, still dead. But that won't stop Daniel from having stern words with all the women of the world, and Anjelika from rejecting Finn Wolfhard's entry to the Thirstverse.https://www.instagram.com/pimpmywritersroom/
